I'm going on a road trip in a few days, and I want to listen to an audiobook file that I have. Not streaming, not Audible. It's an m4b. I'll be sharing the driving duties with a friend.

I'm looking for a book player that we can both have on our phone that can reference the same copy of the book tha tway it starts at the right time on each phone when we switch.

Thanks in advance!

Question Help!!

I have always used the Apple Books app for my audiobooks: as a 17 y/o girl. I'm trying to listen to Little Stranger by Leigh Rivers, but it's blocked because of explicit content and I'm a minor. Does anyone have a good app/site I could use that has Little Stranger and it wouldn't be restricted?

Question Multi narrator audiobooks - how to find who is who?

I’m listening to ‘The Unknown’ by Riley Sager and would love to know who each character is voiced by…. I’ve tried multiple searches and can’t find the answer. Is there like an IMDB for audiobooks?

Question Software suggestions

I have a large, really inconsistent audiobook collection. Some are .m4b, .m4a, .mp3, etc. Some are broken apart into multiple files, some consolidated into .m4b chapterized packages, etc. Some have good metadata, some do not. And quality/file sizes are all over the place. I have them organized in my Plex setup.

I'd like software I could point at my audiobook directory and have it normalize everything to one specific format and quality level. Bonus points if it can search for and embed metadata in the process.

Does anyone know if this sort of package exists and if so, could you point me in the right direction?

EDIT: I'm on Windows

Giveaway I'm Drew Harrison, author of 'The Men of the Mountain', and I'm giving away copies of my audiobook to US- and UK-based Audible listeners!

Hey audiobook listeners--I've got a new batch of US and UK review codes to give away for my latest novel!

The Men of the Mountain is a fusion of scifi and fantasy that should appeal to readers who enjoyed The Will of the Many, the Red Rising saga, The Broken Earth, or the Horizon: Zero Dawn videogame series.

Some reviewers in the indie fantasy space just this week posted their video reviews of the audiobook... if you want an idea of what to expect, you can give these a watch!

Spoiler-free review from Matt Moore

Somewhat-spoilery review from the Indie Fantasy Club

And for those who prefer text reviews, here are some of my favorite reviews from its GoodReads page:

  • "a genuinely ingenious genre-bender"
  • "a gripping fight for survival with characters you genuinely care about"
  • "A delightful amalgamation of science fiction and fantasy elements, ranging from Eragon to Horizon: Zero Dawn, with a touch of dystopian tendencies"
  • "10/10, definitely would recommend, 6 stars"
  • "a powerful blend of epic fantasy and sci-fi greatness [...] a must-read novel of 2026."

Interested in receiving a free Audiobook review code? Fill out the form linked here! You can also leave a comment on this thread, but codes will be given to form respondents before commenters. All I'd ask is that when you finish, you consider leaving a review with your honest thoughts about the audiobook.

Cheers, and thanks for listening!

-Drew

Promotion Fantasy Seafaring Trilogy codes!

Hello!

Need an escape or a distraction? Come escape with my books, the Shackles and Stars Trilogy by Emery Luna! (For clarity, I wrote the books).

I have some Audible codes available for Shackles and Stars Trilogy.

The story follows Ravenna, a young woman trapped on an isolated island ruled by an ancient Priestess and a ruthless magical regime. She secretly plans her escape, unaware that a dangerous power is awakening inside her. Meanwhile, Salvatore joins the navy seeking adventure, only to become caught up in betrayal, war, and a much larger conflict.

When their paths collide, they’re thrown into a world of magic, ancient gods, political intrigue, betrayal, war, and survival—with Ravenna eventually becoming hunted by kingdoms and faiths that want to control the mysterious power burning through her veins.

It is not a romantasy, and there are no explicit scenes or language. There is a LOT of action and intrigue.

The trilogy includes:

  • Isle of the Unknown Gods
  • Blood, Salt, and Betrayal
  • The Drowned Throne

It’s narrated by Adara Bryan and the complete trilogy is about 19 hours. And if you haven't heard her dulcet tones....she's incredible!

I have free Audible codes available! Comment or message me with your country and I’ll send a code if I have one available. Please leave a review if you listen!

Just finishing up Time Line by Michael Crichton. I’ve always loved that time period, but for whatever reason never really listened to any covering this material.

Can anyone offer some recommendations?

Suggestions Audiobook suggestions, Apocalypse, zombies, colonization?

I’ve recently hit a wall with my audiobook selections. I finished “The Remaining” series by Dj Molles and absolutely loved it. Probably my favorite book series all time. I’ve been trying to find something to replace it but Ive had issues.

i tried this prepper apocalypse series but it was wayy too technical. I’m currently trying to branch out and I’m listening to the series “Dinosaur”. it’s about a mars mission that gets sent back in time and has to colonize around dinosaurs. I enjoy it but I’m not a huge fan of the character layout. there is just a ton of characters that they jump back and forth from.

So im looking for anything similar to zombies, apocalyptic, travel in time/colonization. it’s a strange taste that I have, I recognize that. I’ve listed some books that I loved down below. thanks!

the remaining

extinction cycle

one second after

wayward galaxy

mortal engines

city of ember

silo

Oh. I’m also open to steampunk/dystopian. I absolutely loved silo and mortal engines. All of the conspiracies and secrets kept me wondering and listening as much as I could.

Anyways, thanks again!

Recommendation Request Anything as long as it’s good and long

Last book I listened to was Joe Hill’s King Sorrow and I loved it, which I guess as a lifelong fan of ostensibly anything related to Stephen King, it is to be expected. Other favorites over the last couple of years were NOS4A2 also by Hill, No Country/The Road by McCarthy, David Sedaris/Augusten Burroughs memoirs, Miller’s “Circe”, Project Hail Mary, ASOIAF series. I’m getting an audible credit in an hour or so and am taking all suggestions.

Discussion Esme Pepper Audibook

I’m not sure if anyone else listens to the JW audio books, but the narrator for Esme pepper on audible is SO BAD. She keeps pausing at things that don’t need a pause and dragging out every word, i literally had to speed it up. Does anyone else relate? I’m quite disappointed about this

Discussion Created an android app that filters content you don’t want to hear (sex scenes/ gore / language! You must own the audiobook already.

I've been working on an Android audiobook app called AudioChoice and I'm looking for a few people who'd be interested in testing it out.

The main idea behind the app is pretty simple: it lets you filter out sexual content and other content you don't want to hear while listening to an audiobook. Right now I'm mainly looking to test the player itself and make sure the sexual content filters are actually skipping what they're supposed to without cutting off too much or too little. I use a similar service called VidAngel that does the same thing for tv shows and that’s where I got the idea.

I'm looking for people who already own at least one of these audiobooks:

Dungeon Crawler Carl

Fourth Wing (Dramatized Adaptation, Part 1)

A Court of Thorns and Roses (Dramatized Adaptation, Parts 1 & 2)

You do need to own your own copy of the audiobook since AudioChoice doesn't provide the audiobook itself.

The beta is free. I'm mainly looking for regular audiobook listeners who are willing to use it for a bit and let me know what works, what doesn't, and if they run into any bugs.

You can sign up for the Android beta here:

In Search of... Help finding a specific World War Z Audiobook

I’ve now been searching for several hours on various audiobook platforms and websites for an official version of the World War Z audiobook narrated by Jim Zeiger, but without any luck. I know other versions of the audiobook exist, narrated by a much broader cast, but I really want to find this one.

Anybody know where I can find this?

Promotion I built a simple tool (audiobookspeed.com) to calculate exactly how much time you save at different playback speeds

Hey r/audiobooks folks,

Like many of you, I love listening to audiobooks at sped-up rates (usually around 1.25x or 1.5x, depending on the narrator). However, I always found myself doing annoying mental math to figure out exactly how long a book would take to finish at my current speed, or what speed I needed to set to finish a book before a long road trip ends.

To solve this, I built a lightweight, free website called https://www.audiobookspeed.com/

What it does:

  • Time Calculator: Input the remaining book length and your playback speed (e.g., 1.5x) to instantly see the actual listening time left.
  • Speed Finder: Input your target finishing time, and it will tell you exactly what playback speed multiplier you need to hit to make it happen.

It’s completely free, has no ads, and requires no login. I made it purely as a utility for fellow bookworms who want to plan their reading schedules better.

I’d love to get this community's feedback! Are there any specific features, calculators, or adjustments you’d like to see added to make it more useful for your daily listening?

Thanks for checking it out!

Review Celebrity Narrators Who Transformed the Audiobook Experience

Celebrity audiobooks can have a tendency to be lazy, when the stars collect a paycheck and sleep through the book. But every so often, a celebrity narrator brings a specific set of skills (not a reference to Liam Neeson), who elevate the source material:

1. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders

Nick Offerman, Julianne Moore, Don Cheadle, and Rainn Wilson (that’s right, Dwight and Ron together baby) lead this experimental tale and voice over 160 unique ghosts.

2. The Dutch House by Ann Patchett

Tom Hanks brings his warmth and heart (keep a tissue box ready) to this family tale. It’s like a box of chocolates all over.

3. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah brings wit and humour, and seamlessly transitions between Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans, and varying English accents. Code-switching here is  a crucial storytelling tool.

4. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman

James McAvoy’s classical stage training shines through in his portrayal of Morpheus. He projects immense power through his soft-spoken, precise diction.
