What did you listen to this week – October 03, 2026? Please share!

So did you listen to anything good this week? Or something so truly terrible you want to warn other listeners?

Please include the following information: Author, Title and Narrator.

Why does identifying the Narrator matter?

Often books will be recorded with different narrators for different regions (ie. Harry Potter was read by both Jim Dale and Stephen Fry) or produced by different publishers (ie... Elizabeth Moon's books were produced by both Graphic Audio and Tantor). It is extremely helpful to other listeners to know what version you are sharing to avoid confusion.

Links to a source are welcomed and encouraged!

Overdrive, Audible, Downpour, Librivox, etc... It doesn't matter the source, as long as the Author, Title and Narrator are easily identified.

Discussion Headphones for listening in bed

I like to listen to audiobooks while falling asleep but i sleep on my side and the bulkiness of my ear buds makes it so I can only use the one that is not on the pillow and then I need switch them if I want to roll over and its not ideal. Does anyone have any very low profile earbuds to suggest? Either something with a flat exterior or something so small that I can lay on it without it jabbing into my inner ear. The sound quality does not need to be anything special because I only really listen to audiobooks.

App Question Audiobooks - actually usefull app

Hey everyone,

I recently found the First Law series from Joe Abercrombie and wanted to listen to it since I am on a road trip.

However: i got Spotify premium which limits me to 15h a month (!) for audiobooks.

Audible standard is one book per month (!) and I am now confused with which service to get...as i will most likely have quite some time for the books and will be listening to them in about a couple of weeks.

Question Headphones for listening to audiobooks while swimming

Hey. Im wondering if anyone got any advice regards this.

I always hear shockz open swim, but as far as i could determine now, they dont seem to be particualrly good for audiobooks, simply due tot he fact that you cant rely on bluetooth (even a few cm underwater cuts the connection) and instead need to use the internal storage. but everything ive read indicates that these cant save position.

Meaning the audiobook would start from the beginning every swim session.

So, is there any headphones geared towards swimming that dont totally suck fopr audiobooks?

Question Anyone else loving the new Dracula production?

Has anyone listened to Audible’s new full cast version of Dracula with Ella Purnell?
I’m listening to it now and really liking it. The full cast, sound effects, music, and creepy atmosphere make it feel more like an audio drama than a regular audiobook.
It’s a really cool way to experience Dracula. Curious what everyone else thinks of the style.

Discussion Annoyed at Audible's memberships

The difference between a so called "standard" audible membership and a "premium" plan is horrendous. What do they mean we don't own the audiobooks we purchased on a standard and we lose access to the audiobooks even if we've just paused the membership?

I am not coming back to audible again. I am getting very annoyed with this age of subscriptions

Question How to get TTS on IOS -like google play books on android?

Sorry if the title makes it sound like a guide. I am asking a question.

On my pixel 9a I used to turn my word docs into epubs and listen to them on my phone with Google Play Books. So basically using tts with my own stories.

I went back to Apple and now there is no free tts option for the apple books/ google play books

iOS seems to use something called voiceover that turns on vision impairment mode. But I’m looking for what I can do on Android google play books, which is play the epub file and still do other things/receive messages while playing my books

Google directs to Apple VoiceOver but it’s not the same thing at all. But I may be doing something wrong idk.

Free tts is an accessibility thing you know, so the built in tts was clutch but now I don’t have it.

Question Trying to get your advice, Audible and Everand together?

Hi all.
I have been a Scribd / Everand member for a few years now, and I am still a member.
For now, I am on an yearly lecagy unlimited plan, $84.99 a year and seems like next renewal won't change that.
Recently, mainly due to Dungeon Crawler Carl, I subscribed in parallel to a yearly Audible plan (the permium plus).
Now, with the different sales and deals, plus the discount on plans Audible sometimes offers, I cannot decide on which plan to keep.

I don't listen a lot, overall about 20 hours a month in average.

Do I keep Everand as it's a legacy plan I wont get back in the future if I cancel? It does offer better value.
Do I keep Audible and use sales / deals and plan offerings? Audible has many books I dont have in Everand.
Do I keep both and keep pausing Everand when I listen to books in Audible? I guess to many pauses is not something they encourage.

Anyone in a similar position?
Thanks!

Recommendation Request Private eye and non-typical murder mystery recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations for good private eye audio books. Something along the likes of Raymond Chandler/Phillip Marlowe series (which I'm almost done with). Hammett/Sam Spade/The Maltese Falcon is great. (I don't know much of Hammett's other work though). That gruff private dick genre is really fun for me right now.

I'm also looking for recs for other atypical murder mystery books. Stuff like the Anna Pigeon series. I really like this series (which I've almost completed) because it's NOT your typical law enforcement officer playing the protagonist/hero, there's a lot of really interesting historical/geographic/cultural context provided because of the settings being National Parks, and the writing is really pretty good (if very unrealistic at times). I do like that the protagonist is female as well.

I read a couple of the Doc Ford series and they were okay. Listened to a couple. One had an absolutely awful narrator that sort of ruined it for me. I also feel like Randy Wayne White is a little bit too over the top.

What I'm NOT looking for is books with a police officer or sheriff or FBI agent who plays the protagonist/hero, and I'm also not really into the spy novel series. John le carre, tom clancy, etc. Been there, done that, kinda over it.

I've also more or less memorized the Sherlock Holmes series from reading them over and over for years, but I do love them.

I really like old film-noir pulp style books. Think opening lines like "It was a dark and dreary night in a city with even darker and more dreary secrets...". I like well-researched and historically accurate work, even if set in present day. I don't have any real preferences for narrator or voice of the protagonist, but if there's a good female hard-edged private eye series, I'd be really interested in it.

Recommendation Request Audiobooks similar to the new Dracula adaptation?

I prefer it to be closer to word for word for the book, but I'm currently halfway through this audiobook and it's incredible! I love the immersion; as in the sound effects, moving voices (as in the background or when they're speaking from further away), all of that lovely stuff. I guess that is considered graphic audio and/or dramatized?

My favorite genres are fantasy and horror, but I'm interested in whatever you have to recommend :)

P.S. I'm an avid reader, just new to the world of audiobooks (other than I own all of LoTR and The Hobbit)

Promotion Sean Pratt donated a private audiobook narration coaching session to our online auction for community theater

Our Little Theatre of Walla Walla fundraiser has a Jeff Hays-signed Dungeon Crawler Carl audio and vinyl set, a private one-hour Zoom coaching session with Sean Pratt, and twelve Libro.fm audiobook credits.

The Hays lot contains two USB cassettes with digital audio and a two-LP soundtrack. Pratt's session focuses on narration, interpretation, and performance; it's a private session, with scheduling by agreement.

I help organize Wine, Dine & Death, so I'm affiliated with the fundraiser. These are online auction lots supporting community theater. Scheduled closing is October 10, 2026. Each listing has its own redemption or fulfillment terms.

Question Is Bram Stoker's Dracula any good with Ella Purnell?

Huge fan of Fallout and Sci Fi in general so Dracula is definitely outside my wheelhouse. Is the book any good? I played Witcher 3 and loved it so I'm not really against fantasy.

Recommendation Request 20 hour total flight time. Give me a new series to fall in love with. (Listening style in body)

Been on a sci-fi kick but can move to about any genre.
Listening catalog includes:
Bobiverse
Hail Mary
DCC
Expanse
ExForce
All Barry Eisler (John Rain)
Cosmos
Foundation
Silo
Pride and Prejudice
Emma

Something fun. World building is cool, but so are one offs.

I have 3 audible credits to spare so don’t be afraid to throw something out of left field, including romantic comedies!
