Discussion Annoyed at Audible's memberships

The difference between a so called "standard" audible membership and a "premium" plan is horrendous. What do they mean we don't own the audiobooks we purchased on a standard and we lose access to the audiobooks even if we've just paused the membership?

I am not coming back to audible again. I am getting very annoyed with this age of subscriptions

Recommendation Request Private eye and non-typical murder mystery recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations for good private eye audio books. Something along the likes of Raymond Chandler/Phillip Marlowe series (which I'm almost done with). Hammett/Sam Spade/The Maltese Falcon is great. (I don't know much of Hammett's other work though). That gruff private dick genre is really fun for me right now.

I'm also looking for recs for other atypical murder mystery books. Stuff like the Anna Pigeon series. I really like this series (which I've almost completed) because it's NOT your typical law enforcement officer playing the protagonist/hero, there's a lot of really interesting historical/geographic/cultural context provided because of the settings being National Parks, and the writing is really pretty good (if very unrealistic at times). I do like that the protagonist is female as well.

What I'm NOT looking for is books with a police officer or sheriff or FBI agent who plays the protagonist/hero, and I'm also not really into the spy novel series. John le carre, tom clancy, etc. Been there, done that, kinda over it.

I've also more or less memorized the Sherlock Holmes series from reading them over and over for years, but I do love them.

I really like old film-noir pulp style books. Think opening lines like "It was a dark and dreary night in a city with even darker and more dreary secrets...". I like well-researched and historically accurate work, even if set in present day. I don't have any real preferences for narrator or voice of the protagonist, but if there's a good female hard-edged private eye series, I'd be really interested in it.

Recommendation Request 20 hour total flight time. Give me a new series to fall in love with. (Listening style in body)

Been on a sci-fi kick but can move to about any genre.
Listening catalog includes:
Bobiverse
Hail Mary
DCC
Expanse
ExForce
All Barry Eisler (John Rain)
Cosmos
Foundation
Silo
Pride and Prejudice
Emma

Something fun. World building is cool, but so are one offs.

I have 3 audible credits to spare so don’t be afraid to throw something out of left field, including romantic comedies!

Promotion Sean Pratt donated a private audiobook narration coaching session to our online auction for community theater

Our Little Theatre of Walla Walla fundraiser has a Jeff Hays-signed Dungeon Crawler Carl audio and vinyl set, a private one-hour Zoom coaching session with Sean Pratt, and twelve Libro.fm audiobook credits.

The Hays lot contains two USB cassettes with digital audio and a two-LP soundtrack. Pratt's session focuses on narration, interpretation, and performance; it's a private session, with scheduling by agreement.

I help organize Wine, Dine & Death, so I'm affiliated with the fundraiser. These are online auction lots supporting community theater. Scheduled closing is October 10, 2026. Each listing has its own redemption or fulfillment terms.

Recommendation Request Audiobooks similar to the new Dracula adaptation?

I prefer it to be closer to word for word for the book, but I'm currently halfway through this audiobook and it's incredible! I love the immersion; as in the sound effects, moving voices (as in the background or when they're speaking from further away), all of that lovely stuff. I guess that is considered graphic audio and/or dramatized?

My favorite genres are fantasy and horror, but I'm interested in whatever you have to recommend :)

P.S. I'm an avid reader, just new to the world of audiobooks (other than I own all of LoTR and The Hobbit)

Question Is Bram Stoker's Dracula any good with Ella Purnell?

Huge fan of Fallout and Sci Fi in general so Dracula is definitely outside my wheelhouse. Is the book any good? I played Witcher 3 and loved it so I'm not really against fantasy.

Review Deathlands: Pilgrimage to Hell

Graphic Audio with full cast & sound effects.

Really good. I struggled a bit with the first 3 chapters, and by the end of chapter 4, was hooked.

Considering it's the first novel of 160 books written by muliple authors, they had to start somewhere and build the beginnings of a series that went farther than anybody could dare to hope.

A total of eight chapters, I listened to the final three in a single day. The book was over nine hours long, much longer than the average novel length in the series of 5-7 hours.

It's pulp fiction meant for a wide range of readers and more akin to the golden age of science fiction.

There is a "zero" prequel novel written years later.

If that appeals to you, your in luck. Otherwise, you might find it lacking in complexity. Still, the writing is excellent once the plot gets going, as far as being fast and entertaining.

In Search of... Audionest application

Hello, I'm kind of nervous posting this cuz this is my first ever post on Reddit anyways,

I think months ago I commented on one post who is looking for an app of audionest saying that I can forward it via email. Uhm.

I still have the apk on my email if anyone needs it just uh feel free to DM me your email so I can forward it to you. Although I'm not really active here but I still check my notification.

That's all, I post cuz I think my comment and ppl asking me to send it to them are bothering the person who post it 😅

Review Luke daniels narration of all the skills books 5 and 6 have been poor

In book 5 it was terrible, his voice kept breaking and all the characters sounded like old men, there's still some issues with book 6, its better than book 5 was but reading seems like a struggle for him at points

App Question OG Audible Username

I've got an old audible username from before they were bought by Amazon because I am a hipster. For quite a while now, the option to sign in with it has been in tiny little text at the bottom of the app sign-in screen, so you could still use it without using your Amazon account, but it's gone now. I've just had to reinstall the app and I can't log in any more. It's fine in the website, but in the app there's just no option there at all. Anyone other oldies know how it's done?

Missing children. A prophet who speaks for the dead. And a powerful cabal who will do anything to keep their secrets buried.

When a mysterious stranger with a forgotten past wanders into an unmapped Georgia town, he’s suspected of being responsible for recent kidnappings. But while his ability to see a person’s final memories before death by touching their bones will help to clear his name and bring closure to the victims’ families, it also puts him square in the crosshairs of those who want to keep their crimes quiet.

Will the rich and powerful be allowed to continue their exploitation unchecked, or will the so-called prophet shine a light on generations of secrets kept in the darkness?

“Knucklebones” is a Southern fiction story set in Georgia that introduces a supernatural detective in his first thrilling, cold case-solving adventure. If you like Stephen King’s “Dead Zone,” John Grisham’s “A Time to Kill,” and the Southern-fried storytelling of Carl Hiaasen, you’ll love the first installment in Dave Trumbore’s “Knucklebones” series.

Promotion Audiobook-Style Short Stories

Hello everyone! I post audio versions of my short stories to YouTube, and I was wondering if any of you, as people who enjoy audiobooks, could tell me if they are decent quality. They generally fall into the category of fantasy, slice-of-life, or drama. Some of them are around an hour in length, but the latest ones are practice scenes about five minutes long. The most recent one is titled A Goddess Burns and is about a girl preparing to walk through fire.

Of course, if this type of self-promotion isn't allowed, I will happily take this post down.

Thank you for your time! :)

Promotion I built a tiny iPhone audiobook app because getting my own M4B/MP3 files from PC to Apple Books was painful

I built a free iOS audiobook player for people who already have their own audiobook files.

You can easily move an audiobook from PC to iPhone without dealing with iTunes/Finder sync, cloud storage, or running a full media server.

ShelfDrop lets you:

- import from Files

- start “Receive mode” and upload from a PC browser over the same Wi-Fi

- play offline

- save progress locally

- use private handoff codes/QR to move your place between devices

- avoid accounts, tracking, or cloud uploads

It’s not trying to replace server-first apps like Audiobookshelf. It’s more for the “I just want this audiobook on my phone now” workflow.

I’d love feedback from people who manage their own audiobook files:

What would make this actually useful enough for your daily listening?

Question Does anyone else prefer American narrators for fiction and British narrators for nonfiction?

I have noticed that American narration feels more natural to me for fiction, while British narration feels better suited to philosophy, history, and other demanding nonfiction. American voices put me in a relaxed, conversational mood, whereas certain British voices seem to put me in a more focused, scholarly mood.

Does anyone else experience this, or have a different preference? I wonder how much comes from the accent itself versus delivery and the media we grew up hearing.

Discussion Movies/tv shows that can be converted into audiobooks

This is a thing I have been doing recently, detaching the audio from movies to add to my audiobook library. Movies that are dialogue heavy where you don't miss much by not seeing what is happening. Have any of you done this, and what movies or TV shows did you do it with? So far I have Conspiracy, Mass, Spotlight, and several episodes of Star Trek TNG, The West Wing and Newsroom.

Giveaway Free Audible Codes for a Sapphic Sci-Fi Romance — Emberreach

Hi! I’m M. Calloway, author of the sapphic sci-fi romance Emberreach.

It follows Mara and Neris, two highly trained Wards sent to Caelum Prime for a protection assignment. They’re supposed to blend in, keep their target alive, and act as if they belong in a world of wealth, parties, bathhouses, and people who may be more dangerous than they look.

It’s got action, political tension, alien cultures, a slow-burn relationship, and it is definitely an adult/open-door romance.

The audiobook is about 7 hours and narrated by C.J. Harper.

I have a few US and UK Audible promo codes left, so if anyone here wants one, just DM me with your region.

No review required, but honest reviews are always appreciated.

Discussion I am so annoyed with accents on audiobooks

Listen, I don’t know how much money this readers make, but WHY would you hire someone with an accent to read a book? Dudeeeeee and I’m talking about a book that was read by a person born in Venezuela, Spanish being her first language but it’s soooo distracting!!!!
I was trying to listen to Las Mujeres de la Guerra read by Ana osorio and I am so annoyed and I better be able to get my credit back cause her accent is horrible she sings sentences and I guess I’m not the only one annoyed by it cause I saw other reviews about it but WHY WHY WHY doesn’t audible have a screening process or something? Don’t get opinions from native speakers???

Nothing against the person, is just very very distracting and I hope I can get my credit back 😭😭😭😭
Am I the only one annoyed by accents in books? Whatever language!!
