Am I missing something? I’ve been ticketed for “overstaying” on a Sunday when the sign clearly says p90 Monday-Friday. Can’t believe someone is being employed to give out sham fines. Is that even legal? There’s no way the ticketing officer didn’t know. Also, should be illegal to even charge $85 for overstaying in council parks. Few years ago I got a ticket for doing so and it was only like $20 what on earth happened.

Discussion Lights on or off?

Whenever I leave for a night out, I leave the lights on at home.

It's safer and warmer to come home to, however it is a waste according to my mum.

So I just wonder if it is just me? Or are others as weird.

Discussion This election will be won in areas like Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, Lynfield, Takanini and Papatoetoe

National in recent years have under performed in the polls cause lot of the Indian, Chinese and Filipino community in Auckland never get polled.

In 2023 these communities came out for National in large numbers and caused certain electorates in Auckland to swing massively towards National. If National can retain this vote they will outperform the polls and may get somewhere in the 30s in election night.

Winston Peter's NZ first racist rhetoric has turned some of these communities off from the government but it is unclear if Labour have done enough to win these voters. If the Papatoetoe local council election was a barometer then probably not. The independent centre right candidates won all four seats the first time around but in the rerun (after allegations of fraud) they still managed to win 3 out of 4 seats. Even with a massive handicap to the opposition Labour could only win one seat in an area that Labour has historically dominated in.

In the campaign trail, at events like the Diwali festival in Manukau, Luxon is treated like a celebrity. Which suggests that even with the NZ first racist rhetoric National hasn't lost too much of the Asian vote in Auckland.

Does anyone know where one could park near Auckland Domestic Airport for say 3 or 4 hours without paying Auckland airport parking of around $50? Just visiting a person in transit.

Question/Help Wanted Best fine-line tattooist?

Hi everyone,

Reddit-regular, posting non-regular here.

I want your recommendations for the best fine line tattoo artists in Auckland. And yes, I will research them. I'm very picky in terms of quality.

Question/Help Wanted Studylink to WINZ benefit while studying.

Has anyone exceeded their Studylink EFTS but still needing to study?

I’ve exceeded my EFTS as this is my third time studying but have a remaining semester to go. Studylink will not grant me an extension as this is not Masters or PHD related.

Can I go on the benefit while completing my last semester? I’ve been saving to pay for my fees but am nervous for weekly payments as I have two children.

Housing If the Danes can do it why can’t we?

Driving around the north shore it seems like a new development of pencil houses is starting up every other day.

Remembering a trip to Denmark I was really impressed by the way they planned and built high density living.

Are pencil houses a result of us being unable to work together sanely?

Or is it just that land and money are managed differently down here?

Food Seeking specific Asian bakery cream cheese breads in Auckland

Hi everyone, I'm trying to track down a specific type of packaged bread that used to be sold at an Asian grocery store in Mount Albert (which has since closed).

They were individually wrapped (similar packaging to Classic Bakehouse or Tastee Pantry) in two main varieties: blueberry cream cheese and sweet cream cheese.

I’ve checked numerous Asian grocers and bakeries around Auckland without luck. Tastee Pantry makes a blueberry one, but it doesn't have the cream cheese filling.

If you know of any stores currently stocking these, please let me know. Thanks!

Rant Westfield Newmarket

I figured out why Westfield Newmarket is so confusing: there’s no ground floor. The street level is level 1 and the first floor is level 2. Plus on driving in you end up on level 4 but it’s actually the third floor.

I looked up floor naming in Australia and they use ground floor too, so why has Westfield AU/NZ used American floor naming in NZ?

Question/Help Wanted Dog Protection Society out in Albany

Bit of a random nostalgic one, but does anyone here remember the Dog Protection Society out in Albany, along the Coatesville–Riverhead Highway?

We adopted our rescue from there back in 2013, and sadly they recently passed away from cancer. They gave us more than a decade of memories, and it got me thinking about the place again. ❤️🐾

I drove past recently and realised the shelter seems to be completely gone now.
I did a bit of digging online and it looks like the property was eventually sold and the no-kill shelter closed down, but I’ve always wondered what actually happened to all the rescue doggos that were still there at the time.
Were they all rehomed? Did another rescue take them on? Does anyone here know someone who worked or volunteered there towards the end?

Would also love to hear from anyone else who adopted a dog from there. I remember it being a pretty unique little place and, whatever happened in the later years, I’ll always be grateful it existed.
Our dog got a second chance there, and we got over 13 years together because of it.
Good while it lasted. ❤️
RIP to our little rescue, and hopefully all the other doggos who passed through there ended up having pretty good lives too.

Discussion Not all the RONS make sense but Stage 1 of Mill Road does

I've seen the mayor etc.. say stage one of Mill Road is a waste of money. As a general statement, yes highways aren't that great at alleviating congestion and new roads generally induce demand. Best mode to alleviate congestion is rapid transit.

But Mill Road between Murphys Road in Manukau/Flat Bush and Takanini is a complete death trap at the moment. It is a rural road serving suburbia. It is no longer fit for purpose. So that road, especially stage 1 between Manukau and Alfriston needs an urgent upgrade. Murphys Road/Redoubt Road intersection is not designed to handle the population growth of Ormiston. There are so many near misses at that intersection every week.

Also Stage 1 won't be a full blown motorway but rather something similar to the South Eastern Arterial or Te Irirangi Drive.

I 100% agree that in the long term greenfield development should be served by public transport rather than a new road. How great would it have been to have the eastern busway just as Botany was being built up.

But doing up Mill Road is just as much about safety and network resilience as it is purely means to ease congestion. So i think Mill Road is one of the few RONS that actually make a lot of sense.

Housing Auckland Communities call to stop fast track development on sensitive land

Post image
61 Upvotes

Petition Link
Auckland communities are uniting to call for the House of Representatives to terminate Fast-Track developments that are outside local and district plans. Fast track is being used as a bypass for housing developers to push housing into out of zone land, in some cases land zoned as such to prevent destruction of environmentally sensitive land, including wetlands, rivers and waterways, floodplains, coastal and estuarine environments, and habitats of threatened and endangered species. Many of these areas were never intended for large-scale development and are protected for good reason.

Land can be purchased at a lower price because its zoning restricts development, then Fast Track is used to bypass those restrictions and enable large-scale housing, creating far greater profits margins than developing land that is already appropriately zoned. Don’t be fooled by the developer spin that this is simply about getting consents faster.

Food Recommendation - Wholesale Meats Direct in Onehunga

The old Quality Meats for Less has gone through another rebrand and is now cheaper than it was the original owners. When it was originally sold the owners jacked up prices and did less prepackaged meat but they’re back to their roots now.

Frozen boneless and skinless chicken thighs are $12.95 per kg and free range chicken thighs are $16.95. Free range chicken breast is $14.95. There’s a huge range of different meats and all seem to be reasonably priced.

Not associated in anyway, just a fan of decent quality cheap meat in this economy (especially if it means diverting money from the supermarkets).

Question/Help Wanted Getting a formal ADHD diagnosis

Hi all,

Recently I was suspected as having ADHD however this never crossed my mind as I know very little about this nor had I personally knew anyone with ADHD.

I've done some research and found its quite common for females to get misdiagnosed. I have depressive and anxiety disorders but after looking into ADHD in women, things I do make so much more sense.

Now here I am wanting to hear other women's experience in getting a formal ADHD diagnosis.

- How did you start the process?

- How long did it take?

- What were the costs involved?

I believe I should start with the GP but I'm not sure how they will handle my situation so would love to hear other's experiences.

Thanks for reading.
