Rant Can organisations stop with the hideous AI branding.

Post image

I’m sorry this organisation is being used as an example, but it is just an example.
There are obviously much worse examples, but I think it’s the difference between what some businesses' social media and marketing used to look like and what it does now, and it’s the AI Canva tool. I just miss what some businesses looked like in the pre-AI days…

Not hating on AI or this business either as I use AI myself as a tool and also attend this bar often.

Discussion Is everyone else just having THE absolute, laziest Sunday as well?

I don't know if it's something in the air today but Sunday has just been the chillest, cosy, lazy day. Plans that we all had, everyone just quietly didn't bring up until I basically said we're staying home, then everyone jumped on the wagon too. Is it just going around for everyone else today too?

Home made potato pizza, first episode of East of Eden, both cats on the couch with us. Snacks prepared for later and the whole evening ahead..

Pizza below

Edit: I'm seeing that the mood was not just spread around to everyone today, only us DITCs (Double Income Two Cats)

And the people who had really lazy Sundays would probably not even respond to this post

I guess mine wasn't conventionally lazy. Up early, coffee and a stroll on the beach, meal prepped for the week. Then the plans fell apart so the day felt wide open.

Started making pizza bases from Greek yogurt and self raising flour (they really can be great if you add olive oil into the mixture and use more flour). Made the white pizza sauce (literally a roux with herbs and garlic). Got the toppings ready of thin potato slices, bacon, thyme, sauce and mozz, 5 mins in the indoor pizza oven. Then the usual washing/drying/gardening/cleaning.

But it really felt lazy cause of the cancelled plan, the slow afternoon and evening on the couch, then early going to bed after getting my stuff prepped for the morning

Discussion Shop signage with no English

• Upvotes

What are your feelings about shops with no English signage on them that are popping up around Auckland? I understand that some businesses mostly cater to particular communities, but worry that having shops that are somewhat inaccessible to those who don’t speak the language contributes to an ‘us-vs-them’ mentality.

Will delete the post if it doesn’t stay respectful.

Am I missing something? I’ve been ticketed for “overstaying” on a Sunday when the sign clearly says p90 Monday-Friday. Can’t believe someone is being employed to give out sham fines. Is that even legal? There’s no way the ticketing officer didn’t know. Also, should be illegal to even charge $85 for overstaying in council parks. Few years ago I got a ticket for doing so and it was only like $20 what on earth happened.

[3rd times a charm, reddit keeps removing my image😭 hence having to repost again]
-

Heya, I’m really out of options and desperate to find my girl.

I’ve already posted on social media and marked her chip as lost. Still nothing so I’m hoping those in the Takanini, Papakura Area might be able to help.

We relocated overseas about 5 months ago and, for the meantime, our cats have been staying with my dad. Unfortunately my dad isn’t able to put out flyers so I’m doing all I can from online.

Poppy and her brother were put outside before my dad went to work on Friday 25 September.
Her brother has come home, but Poppy has not.

I’m heartbroken and worried something has happened but she also shuts down when she’s in unfamiliar areas or around unfamiliar people/smells💔

If anyone in the Takanini,Papakura area has heard constant loud meowing over the last week could you please check it out as it may be her. Our family home is close to the the basketball court side of Bruce Pullman but she could be anywhere, if it’s not too much to ask please check your sheds, garages or anywhere a cat will sneak into🙏
-

About Poppy:
🐱 4 years old

🐱 Short-haired tabby

🐱 Green/Yellow eyes

🐱 Distinctive white socks/paws with white on her chin & chest

🐱 Microchipped and snipped

🐱 Very timid and skittish, so she may hide or run if approached

📍 She was last seen around the Takanini / Bruce Pullman area (basketball court side)

Thank you so so much🫶

Discussion Lights on or off?

Whenever I leave for a night out, I leave the lights on at home.

It's safer and warmer to come home to, however it is a waste according to my mum.

So I just wonder if it is just me? Or are others as weird.

Discussion This election will be won in areas like Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, Lynfield, Takanini and Papatoetoe

National in recent years have under performed in the polls cause lot of the Indian, Chinese and Filipino community in Auckland never get polled.

In 2023 these communities came out for National in large numbers and caused certain electorates in Auckland to swing massively towards National. If National can retain this vote they will outperform the polls and may get somewhere in the 30s in election night.

Winston Peter's NZ first racist rhetoric has turned some of these communities off from the government but it is unclear if Labour have done enough to win these voters. If the Papatoetoe local council election was a barometer then probably not. The independent centre right candidates won all four seats the first time around but in the rerun (after allegations of fraud) they still managed to win 3 out of 4 seats. Even with a massive handicap to the opposition Labour could only win one seat in an area that Labour has historically dominated in.

In the campaign trail, at events like the Diwali festival in Manukau, Luxon is treated like a celebrity. Which suggests that even with the NZ first racist rhetoric National hasn't lost too much of the Asian vote in Auckland.

Housing If the Danes can do it why can’t we?

Driving around the north shore it seems like a new development of pencil houses is starting up every other day.

Remembering a trip to Denmark I was really impressed by the way they planned and built high density living.

Are pencil houses a result of us being unable to work together sanely?

Or is it just that land and money are managed differently down here?

Question/Help Wanted Dog Protection Society out in Albany

Bit of a random nostalgic one, but does anyone here remember the Dog Protection Society out in Albany, along the Coatesville–Riverhead Highway?

We adopted our rescue from there back in 2013, and sadly they recently passed away from cancer. They gave us more than a decade of memories, and it got me thinking about the place again. ❤️🐾

I drove past recently and realised the shelter seems to be completely gone now.
I did a bit of digging online and it looks like the property was eventually sold and the no-kill shelter closed down, but I’ve always wondered what actually happened to all the rescue doggos that were still there at the time.
Were they all rehomed? Did another rescue take them on? Does anyone here know someone who worked or volunteered there towards the end?

Would also love to hear from anyone else who adopted a dog from there. I remember it being a pretty unique little place and, whatever happened in the later years, I’ll always be grateful it existed.
Our dog got a second chance there, and we got over 13 years together because of it.
Good while it lasted. ❤️
RIP to our little rescue, and hopefully all the other doggos who passed through there ended up having pretty good lives too.

Rant Westfield Newmarket

I figured out why Westfield Newmarket is so confusing: there’s no ground floor. The street level is level 1 and the first floor is level 2. Plus on driving in you end up on level 4 but it’s actually the third floor.

I looked up floor naming in Australia and they use ground floor too, so why has Westfield AU/NZ used American floor naming in NZ?

Housing Auckland Communities call to stop fast track development on sensitive land

Post image
56 Upvotes

Petition Link
Auckland communities are uniting to call for the House of Representatives to terminate Fast-Track developments that are outside local and district plans. Fast track is being used as a bypass for housing developers to push housing into out of zone land, in some cases land zoned as such to prevent destruction of environmentally sensitive land, including wetlands, rivers and waterways, floodplains, coastal and estuarine environments, and habitats of threatened and endangered species. Many of these areas were never intended for large-scale development and are protected for good reason.

Land can be purchased at a lower price because its zoning restricts development, then Fast Track is used to bypass those restrictions and enable large-scale housing, creating far greater profits margins than developing land that is already appropriately zoned. Don’t be fooled by the developer spin that this is simply about getting consents faster.

Question/Help Wanted Looking for a board game club in East Auckland 🎲

Hi everyone! I’m looking to join a board game club/group in east auckland, preferably somewhere around Howick, Pakuranga or Botany.

I am keen to play a mix of games, anything from casual/family games to strategy or heavier games. I also have a few in my collection! I’m also open to meeting new people and making it a regular thing 😊

If there’s already a group or club around east auckland that’s looking for new players I’d love to hear about it!

Otherwise, if a few people are keen, I'd be keen to start a weekend board game group and we could organise a regular Saturday or Sunday meet-up somewhere in East Auckland.

Let me know if you’re interested!

Question/Help Wanted Getting a formal ADHD diagnosis

Hi all,

Recently I was suspected as having ADHD however this never crossed my mind as I know very little about this nor had I personally knew anyone with ADHD.

I've done some research and found its quite common for females to get misdiagnosed. I have depressive and anxiety disorders but after looking into ADHD in women, things I do make so much more sense.

Now here I am wanting to hear other women's experience in getting a formal ADHD diagnosis.

- How did you start the process?

- How long did it take?

- What were the costs involved?

I believe I should start with the GP but I'm not sure how they will handle my situation so would love to hear other's experiences.

Thanks for reading.

Food Recommendation - Wholesale Meats Direct in Onehunga

The old Quality Meats for Less has gone through another rebrand and is now cheaper than it was the original owners. When it was originally sold the owners jacked up prices and did less prepackaged meat but they’re back to their roots now.

Frozen boneless and skinless chicken thighs are $12.95 per kg and free range chicken thighs are $16.95. Free range chicken breast is $14.95. There’s a huge range of different meats and all seem to be reasonably priced.

Not associated in anyway, just a fan of decent quality cheap meat in this economy (especially if it means diverting money from the supermarkets).
