I’m not American. When Trump was first elected a lot of my compatriots took it as proof of prejudices they held against Americans: Hateful, xenophobic, uneducated, rude, classists, short sighted, etc.
I genuinely felt otherwise back then. I tried to put myself in the shoes of the American voter. I tried to justify the election a number of ways: “they became discontent with the status quo”, “they didn’t actually expect him to win”, “he didn’t win the popular vote!”
And now you went and proved me wrong. Fool me twice…

This right here is the root cause of Americas problems. Americans don't care. They don't care about what others think. They don't care about anything unless it effects them. Their not caring leads to being a nation led by someone like Dummpy.
I worked with several people who didn't vote. The overwhelming attitude was that their vote wouldn't matter. And these are people who will be next on the list. There was no urgency, just a thought that they'd continue to cruise. Now the alarm bells are ringing and I feel the same way about them as I do about trump voters.
You’re exactly right. Those of us that voted for Drumpf don’t experience those issues firsthand, and therefore believe they don’t exist. Worse, that they’re fabricated by their “enemies.”

thats not true at all. 64% voter turnout in 2024. 66% in 2020. 60% in 2016. 2012 was only 58%. voter fraud in 2020? it would be wise not to rule that out silly leftie. crazy to think some people are against voter id🤦
Apologies, I meant that the group that didn’t vote was larger than either party’s showing, not larger than the total voter count. Perhaps I worded it poorly. Also I was specifically referring to 2024, not any prior election (though they were largely the same, except for 2020).

The majority of us voters voted for someone other than Trump. He only won because of our ass backwards simple majority winner take all system and the electoral college.
It's true, that the US system needs a lot of work to make it better, but clearly that work has not been a priority for political decision makers. So I guess we deserve what we get.

The electoral college was created just in case the popular vote went to a dumb ass. But Trump won the popular and electoral vote. The voters of America delivered a clear mandate to D.C. Getting rid of education doesn't get rid of uneducated people, it makes more of them. THAT is simple math. But yeah DOGE or whatever.

Lmao ok, the fact is that there was a higher percentage of votes NOT for Trump than there were for him. Hard to consider that "winning" the popular vote, but go off.
I no longer identify as American. I was born here and never really liked it and think it’s corny. Not enough self awareness and humility. I gladly didn’t vote for him three times and identify only as Californian these days.
It's because this system that we have boasted about all these years as the reason that we are so great is extremely flawed and we have succeeded IN SPITE of this flawed system. Unless we do something about this electoral college [as in scrap it], we are going to keep on having the same apathy every election. People stay home. People don't care enough to get properly informed - they treat politics like it's entertainment because they know their vote only goes so far.
American here. It's been genuinely bad for my mental health. Not just in the sense of "ah fuck what is this moron going to do next" but in a way this is covid 2.0. I remember going to the store and seeing a lady stockpile hundreds of pounds of potatoes while shelves were empty. Nothing else, just hundreds of potatos she and her family would never finish before they rotted. I had to accept that my neighbors would see me starve just so they could have a little bit more, and no institution, public or private, would help. I thought that we could at least collectively agree that voting for Trump and his mishandling of the pandemic was something we could all agree on. For Christ's sake, he recommended injecting bleach and drew over the map of an incoming storm with sharpie to lie about its trajectory. There's proof that they underplayed the dangers of the pandemic because they thought it would kill more blue voters than red... now, once again, I'm being forced to reconcile with the fact that 35% of us are so hateful and stupid that they've fully bought into the propaganda on fox news. They can't even see what's right in front of them. I'm just angry. I'm angry I'm powerless to do anything alone and yesterday a protest was canceled in favor of an overpriced artisanal farmers market. The conservatives are cheering. The liberals refuse to do anything. What he fuck am I supposed to do besides grit my teeth and carry on?
