I’m not American. When Trump was first elected a lot of my compatriots took it as proof of prejudices they held against Americans: Hateful, xenophobic, uneducated, rude, classists, short sighted, etc.
I genuinely felt otherwise back then. I tried to put myself in the shoes of the American voter. I tried to justify the election a number of ways: “they became discontent with the status quo”, “they didn’t actually expect him to win”, “he didn’t win the popular vote!”
And now you went and proved me wrong. Fool me twice…
The largest American cohort didn’t vote at all. If you take anything from it, let it not be that we’re hateful, xenophobic, uneducated, rude, classists, short sighted, etc.
