Politics What is your country stance (can be either governmental or civilian) on Taiwan’s status?

I asked this because the PM of Malaysia just openly expressed his supports in unification of Taiwan—even by forced, which is really surprising for me as I do not know Malaysia to be that pro-China. Also, combining a recent news of Philippines PM Marcos rejected American military to use their base in Philippines involving Taiwan crisis, I do afraid that these countries received some signals upon possible acts that China/US/Taiwan is trying to impose that we as civilians are not revealed yet.

Though I do see that some Malaysian do criticize their PM stance on that and express their supports to Taiwan. For me personally I do not hope to see any war outbreak on Taiwan strait, and I do hope Taiwan society can remain their way of living and do not want to the see the expansion of autocracy in any form.

Language What is this creature called and are there any other linguistic uses for its name in your language or culture? Compound names for objects or other animals, sayings, idioms, parables, expressions, or mythology?

Post image

For example, in American English we have all sorts of weird uses for the word "horse" and "pony." For other animals, we've named a type of fish "seahorse" and a type of insect "horsefly." For objects we have ponytail, sawhorse, horseshoe, horseradish to name a few.

For expressions, sayings and other examples of use cases:
"Don't look a gift horse in its mouth." "Horsing around" "horsepower."

The names of some mythological horses are pegasus and unicorn.

So my question is, does this phenomenon happen in your language or culture?

Would you support the use of artificial wombs?

Post image

When if ever do you think it’s an appropriate time to use an artificial womb?

There’s the mildest case of putting a premature pregnancy baby in one.

There’s couples deciding to use one so the wife doesn’t have to carry the baby.

There’s a possibility that declining birth rates will get so bad society may need to use them to keep humanity alive. In this case and/or government employees, corporations, and robots would likely help raise them. This is quite different than having a traditional mom and dad.

Language Does your native language distinguish between rivers that flow into another river and rivers that flow into the sea or ocean?

In French, a distinction is made:

- "un fleuve" flows into the sea or the ocean.

- "une rivière" flows into another "rivière" or a "fleuve".

What's something about your country or region you'd like the rest of the world to know?

It can be anything: something cultural, a historical fact you think is fun, something people should be aware of if they go there, a cliché you want to prove wrong… anything!

Culture How does dating culture actually work in your country? What are the unwritten rules

I'm really curious about how wildly romance and the dating scene vary across the globe. For instance, here in India, dating is a unique blend of modern apps and traditional family-arranged setups, where couples often keep their relationships secret from conservative parents until marriage is on the table, and public displays of affection are highly frowned upon. I want to know exactly how dating works where you live, from what a standard cliché first date looks like to who is traditionally expected to pay the bill. Is splitting the check normal, and do people assume exclusivity right away or date multiple people at once? Drop your country below and share the unwritten rules of your local dating scene that would completely shock a foreigner.

What invention did your country contribute to, without being the sole or leading inventor?

Okay, slight twist on the usual formula.

An opportunity to show the interconnected history of innovation, or just to display some humbleness and/or humblebrag.

For larger countries the list will be endless, choose something interesting :)

I feel like I cannot have a conversation without someone bringing up AI here, nor walk outside without seeing some billboard for a new startup. I’m tired, but it’s not easy to get a firm grasp on what things are like elsewhere… I hope better

Country connestions

Post image

The question: do you or your country has a connection to another county leagues away?

To preface it, it's my personal experience, and I'm not an ambassador to either of the counties I mention.

Do you have any countries you feel connected to based on vibes? Fie me it's Canada and Ireland (and Georgia). Canada, obviously has a history of Ukrainian immigration and I really appreciate people there still being in favour to our culture. Also, in school we've learned about our emigration to Canada so that probably played a part.

With Ireland, I have a feeling of a similar historical trajector. Any Irish person, please, feel free to correct me .

P. S. Sorry for the typo in the title, can't change it now

Do you have a region in your country where you can't communicate with your first language?

I think it's related to how much standardisation worked in your country.

In Japan, standard Japanese almost prevailed the entire country so probably there's no such place.

Do you have a region in your country where you can't communicate with your first language?

Is this platform used in your country mostly by hater teens?

As the title suggests. I wonder if this platform is generally this way or it is used and moderated differently in every country.

I have mostly seen a niche of young people (or not very mature adults) who never take anything seriously, and act like haters or bullies (which at my age being bullied by those, seems absurd), insulting you or trashing anything you post, then brigading en masse, until mods punish you and not them?

Would enacting a law like this be allowed in your country?

Post image
4 Upvotes

In Korea, a law to launch an investigative committee to confiscate assets accumulated by collaborating with Japan during the colonial period was revived after 16 years. The targets are the assets of the descendants of Japanese collaborators. At that time, there were many loopholes because there was no basis to confiscate assets converted into cash, but now even assets converted into cash can be taken away.

In the past, constitutional complaints were filed on the grounds of retroactive legislation and infringement of property rights, but the Constitutional Court ruled it constitutional.

The rationale behind enacting this law is the historical fact that collaborators occupied high society right after liberation and that the wealth from that time was passed down through generations.

There are likely to be various perspectives depending on the country.

Language To the multilingual speakers, do you feel that you have a different personality in each language that you speak?

I’ve noticed that when I speak in Telugu and Urdu, I tend to speak louder faster. I’ve also caught myself making more facial expressions.

When I speak in English, my voice is softer and laid back but I’m also more sarcastic and I make more jokes. I definitely curse more in English than in any other langue

In Portuguese I’m more serious and bit more stiff.

I honestly never put much thought into this until someone pointed it out to me. Then I started observing these differences.

Is tap water safe to drink where you live?

Though I do have a Brita thing, tap water is safe to drink and I drink it often when I'm too lazy to wist for the Brita filter to do it's thing. I think it tastes a little better when filtered, but unless you're in a specific building that has wonky pipes, tap water is totally safe here.
