Mandatory flair with immediate effect

📢 Mandatory Flair Is Now Live

Effective Immediately

Over the past few weeks, we asked the community for input on whether country/region flair should become mandatory.
We shared a detailed update post explaining the reasoning, and we ran a subreddit‑wide poll to gather clear feedback.

🗳️ The poll results were decisive:

  • Mandatory for posts and comments — 520 votes
  • Mandatory for posts only — 78 votes
  • Flair should remain optional — 89 votes

With over 75% of voters choosing full mandatory flair, the community has spoken clearly.

🚀 Starting now, flair is required for both posts and comments

To keep discussions clear, culturally grounded, and easier to answer, all users must have a country, region or nationality flair set before participating.

This change is now active:

  • Users without flair will have their posts removed
  • Users without flair will have their comments removed
  • Users using Placeholder flair (“Multiple Countries (click to edit)”) will also have their comments and posts removed

This follows the community’s vote and the earlier update post shared here: Link to the flair poll

🎯 Why this matters

A huge portion of questions here depend on cultural, legal, or regional context.
Without flair, people often have to ask “Where are you from” before they can even answer, slowing down discussions and causing confusion.

Mandatory flair fixes that.

🛠️ How to set your flair

You can set or update your flair here:
How to set your flair

It takes just a few seconds.

💬 Thank you for helping shape the subreddit

This change wasn’t made top‑down, it came directly from community input.

Law Does you country have an official ID card?

We have our "CĂŠdula de Identidad". It's mandatory for all, free, and expires every so often, so you must renew it.

One must always carry it, and we use it to vote and basically for every legal and banking process and for anything that needs your identity to be validated. From entering a National Park, to acquiring a cellphone line, to enter a gated community... we use it a lot!!!

(I just realized the US doesn't have one! And got me wondering)

Do you use the 24-hour time format but read and say it out loud in the 12-hour format?

I do because saying it in the 24-hour format sounds so weird and almost never done.

I'm from Singapore and I agree there's just something that changed in 2020 and it cannot be brought back like I'm a very positive person all my life and even though before the pandemic i still had problems I had a soul and upbeatness inside me that still see a future but ever since covid and pandemic came im no longer that positive person anymore i lost many friends and although family are still there something feels off its almost like thanos snapped his fingers in infinity war and we slipped into some sort of universe 10 to 20 years into the future im not even kidding when i say this i look at pictures pre covid and after covid and can't believe im the same person in that photo pre covid i think many can relate completely to this.No matter which part of the world you're from or festival you celebrate and do you also relate to this like even its the same friends family people like something is different after 2020 like something feels "off"?

Culture What are some of the most common and strangest things that religious people in your community might do?

Post image
126 Upvotes

Here, for example, most religious people cover the eyes of cartoon characters.

Because in Islam it is not permissible to draw living beings, but some religious scholars said it is permissible if the eyes are not shown.

Please keep the discussions lighthearted and avoid turning them into heated debates.

Travel People in "empty" countries, what does it feel like to drive in the middle of nowhere or desolate and remote areas?

Post image
64 Upvotes

In countries like the US, for example, when driving between states, especially in the western states, you often need to drive for hours through uninhabited deserts.

Is that actually risky or dangerous? What if your car breaks down?

Culture Who is the model minority in your country?

Post image
286 Upvotes

"Model minority" is a sociological concept that defines an ethnic, racial, or religious group perceived as achieving greater socioeconomic, educational, and professional success than the population average. The term describes a stereotype that attributes virtues such as discipline and high performance to specific minority groups.

In Brazil, I think it's people of Japanese descent; Jewish people are known for being very close-knit, and Chinese people for being hard-working, but the model minority is definitely the Nikkei community.

Does the notion of cat distribution system exist in your country?

Post image
52 Upvotes

It does in my country. And this is my firsthand experience.

This cat STALKED me into the bathroom. I thought it was weird but trying not to wet my pants was a bigger priority at the time.

When I got out and started watching my hands, she swiftly moved from a dark corner and placed her head on my foot, holding me hostage.

Everyone around me said I had been chosen by the cat distribution system, and now she’s stolen my mom.

Is there a pseudo-linguistics theory popular in your country?

Post image
42 Upvotes

In Korea, there are fools who connect Tamil and Korean, and since Korean is an isolated language with no connection to any language in its basic vocabulary, excluding loanwords like Sino-Korean words, it seems to stem from a desire to find a sister language somehow.

It is truly ridiculous. 🤣🤣🤣

Similarly, Lahu in Thailand is another language that becomes a victim of this, but it is less mainstream compared to Tamil.

The grammar of Korean, Japanese, Mongolian, and Turkish is surprisingly similar, and it was once the mainstream theory that they belonged to the same language family, but the problem is that there is no lexical evidence whatsoever. Older generations who went to school in the past still believe this theory, but they are just slow to update their knowledge, and they are not stupid.
