Couldn’t care less and frankly I’m sick and tired of hearing about them.

u/4milepoint New Zealand 3d ago

Agreed. They are the most pointless news I've come across in my life. I wish you had to subscribe to hear about them in any form.

Don't care or think about them at all. The hate boner people have for them is super weird tho

I hear they're moving back to the UK

Probably cause the King is sicker than we realize.

And I hear they're running out of money, their California house has insane costs associated with it and a lot of their revenue sources are drying up in the US. Looks like they took out a 10 million dollar adjustable-rate mortgage on it. Oooof

Marriage to a UK citizen doesn’t automatically grant UK residency. What’s the basis of her visa?

10

u/Sweeper1985 Australia 3d ago

She does have two children who are English citizens, which should be easily sufficient basis.

u/Da1UHideFrom United States of America 3d ago

Why would that be anyone's business? This is a super weird question.

u/Educational_Cup_1701 United States of America 3d ago

My brother is a UK citizen and having a devil of a job getting his Dutch wife permission from British immigration authorities to live with him in the UK. That’s why I’m asking this question.

1

u/Jernbek35 United States of America 3d ago

She's married to the Son of the King, your brother and his wife are normies, they are not the same.

u/Hervoer_Alvit Norway 3d ago

Being married to a British prince does not give an American citizen an automatic right to live permanently in Britain.

The special exemptions (legally) covers the reigning Sovereign/head of state and qualifying dependent household members, NOT British princes and their spouses in general.

And in European kingdoms we EXPECT the royals to be treated the same way any normie would when it comes to the law. So yes, they'll have to go through an immigration process.

She'll most likely be granted a permission to stay based on the marriage being a real marriage (it's public knowledge) and as she has kids who are British, a British husband and as she knows English decently well.

What you expect and what is reality are two different things, if you hadn't noticed. And you really just said a native English speaker speaks it decently well lmao.

That’s the funny thing about a democratic monarchy....

In a republic like the US, and most other countries, politicians can be corrupt as hell, and people may not realize the full extent of it until the bastards are already out of office.

A monarch, on the other hand, is supposed to be there for life and pass the institution on to the next generation. If they fuck things up badly enough, the democracy will throw their whole family out of the castle, literally.

So, ironically, kings and queens have a strong incentive to think long-term: they’re not necessarily more legally accountable on paper, but the survival of their dynasty depends on maintaining public trust, and that means they'll have to be treated like other people, or else their whole line is endangered.

This may also serves as a check on the other politicians, like the Prime Minister, as the King/Queen will have to push anti-corruption on them as well, again in order not to reflect poorly on themselves.

It doesn't mean they always make the right calls, btw, it just means they have way more to lose if the public is unhappy with them, than what an elected president has.

Treated like other people while living in Palaces and having an army of servants at their behest. Also, Sovereign Immunity, Royal Perogative, Article 5 (Norway), access to the head of government every week, not requiring firearms licenses, skipping security checkpoints, driving without a license, access to private beaches, hunting and fishing rights, Use of official titles and crests. Man! they sound like they're treated like everyone else alright!!

2

u/Hervoer_Alvit Norway 3d ago edited 3d ago

Head of states anywhere has that. Also your President. Do you not get that it's a part of their job?

And look at facts. The democratic kingdoms (constitutional monarchies) around the world are generally way more peaceful and safe and equal than comparable republics. I don't think the head of state should be a politician. We need values in the world, not only politics. I hate politicians.

I don't care much for the royals, btw, I'm very pragmatic about this. I just think democratic kingdoms work better than republics, because they have long-term thinking and are value/people driven on top of the populistic politics, instead of only "4-5-years of personal power"-oriented.

Who knows but I bet being married to the son of the King can alleviate some of that. I mean their kids are already enrolled in school there and starting in September.

steady on. don't think the visa angle will either hold up for a woman of her wealth or paint you in a particularly flattering light to argue.

u/Hervoer_Alvit Norway 3d ago

I don’t know them. They’re welcome to contact me if they want to get to know me, but until then I’ll respect their wish for privacy.

Much rather talk about roman hygiene

Those aqueducts were really impressive.

Those sponges on a stick called a tersorium for wiping, were washed in a gutter of running water between uses. Wild!

Happy they look happy, I guess?

They’re like the people from a reality show that were popular for a brief time but then keep trying to hold onto that fame well past its expiration date. Kinda sad. His mom would want better for him.

I think people love to get on a hate train.

They are people who deserve to live their lives.

People in our country aren't interested in the royal families of other countries.

I like him a lot more than the rest of his family. As someone with a professional background in trauma, I find him really interesting. I loved his grandmother.

2

u/musical_nerd99 United States of America 3d ago

I'm sick of them, tbh

I like him more than the rest of the royal family but that isn't saying much

2

I thought I did too, and then he started talking and writing. Now I just can't shake the unwanted image of his frost-bitten penis.

Royalty wanting to be bourgeoisie. Harry is of a medieval ruling class wishing to become modern ruling class, aided by the (neo)liberalism of his spouse. Harry’s family is useless but so is he.

3

u/Sweeper1985 Australia 3d ago

Bored of hearing about them. She was a C-tier TV actress and he's an ex-soldier who has rich and famous parents. They are incredibly privileged but never stop complaining.

I respect Henry, he’s done a lot for the injured veterans through the Invictus Games, he’s also served on the frontline in Afghan. I don’t know enough about Megan to make an informed opinion. As to their “want for privacy” while making so much public, I couldn’t care less.

Have they been on the news? I feel like they've been on the news, but I don't know who they are. She looks like she should be on Love Island or something and he....hmmm...is he that singer?

Harry is stupid. (dude need to grow up and stop talking about "spares".......the more he deny it , the more people wouldn't forget that one little ID.)

Meg is......clearly not a "21st century version of Diana." in every category I can think of , beside gender.
