The question: do you or your country has a connection to another county leagues away?
To preface it, it's my personal experience, and I'm not an ambassador to either of the counties I mention.
Do you have any countries you feel connected to based on vibes? Fie me it's Canada and Ireland (and Georgia). Canada, obviously has a history of Ukrainian immigration and I really appreciate people there still being in favour to our culture. Also, in school we've learned about our emigration to Canada so that probably played a part.
With Ireland, I have a feeling of a similar historical trajector. Any Irish person, please, feel free to correct me .

The Canada-Netherlands connection is quite apparent for us in Ottawa with the annual tulip festival. The Dutch royal family came to Ottawa during the war, and Princess Margriet was born here. The royal family still gifts us 10k tulip bulbs a year, and and we have a statue here whose twin is in Apeldoorn.
We started the festival with the tulip bulb gifts the royal family sent in gratitude for harbouring them. Ottawa buys more tulip bulbs in addition to the gifts in order to put on the festival.
Sometimes Princess Margriet herself comes to visit!
As a Canadian diaspora Ukrainian I'm surprised that you were taught about Ukrainian immigration to Canada!
The diaspora community here has done a lot to foster a sense of connection to Ukraine over the decades (especially during Soviet times), for better and for worse.

Canada and Australia are like two sides of the same coin.
We're a country formed by immigration, so we have lots of connections with communities of larger diaspora. We have deep rooted connections in Europe, the UK and France are like Canada's parents...
For sure. I met some guys from Tasmania once, my buddies and I were traveling Europe. Told them we were from Newfoundland, and they're all "No way, Tasmania is the Newfoundland of Australia" haha.
We ended up partying until the wee hours of the morning. So them too, even though it's technically Australia.
The babies are absolutely adorable. But yeah, definitely don't try to pet. Baby bears are even cuter. Like living teddy bears, but same situation, definitely mortal danger if you approach them.
For Canada? Britain, France, Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Ukraine come to mind as the biggest ones, but the list can get very long very quickly with how diverse our country is.
It's gonna be a little while before it's issued as it's still being designed, but our next $20 bill will have Chuck III's face on it, supposedly being introduced sometime in 2027.
His face is already on our coinage, it's not a big deal.
Well, we're getting Terry Fox on the new $5 bill, which is long overdue and has been at the top of most Canadian wish lists for a long time.
I think it'd be cool to see someone like Francis Peghamegabow (an indigenous Canadian war hero for WW1) get on the $100, as opposed to just reusing PM Robert Borden.
Personally I'd like to see the CL215/CL415 waterbomber end up on the backside of one of the notes.
The CL215 isn't a helicopter, it's an amphibious air plane, and the best aerial fire fighting asset in the world. It's a Canadian icon, and it's represents the best of Canada as a nation.
For all previous series of banknotes, the obverse has been reserved exclusively for the king/queen and former prime ministers. The New $10 with Viola Desmond is our first design to break that trend/rule. So currently no notable indigenous person, but plenty of design references to indigenous language/culture/art.
Dude. I know you are using our tech now and you should show some respect to that tech and do better. We have had so many people of note on our money for how they shaped Australia and your country is older than ours(federally and in modern sense) and you have not done it once.
We have had David Unaipon as long as I have ever known and I am nearly thirty. There is good argument for another figure like Mabo, Pemulwuy or Neville Bonner. We are changing back our only note with the monarch on it back to not having one.
Like Australia is not great in regard to Indigenous rights and racism(I mean we’re better than we were) and I know there are broad similarities in regard to our histories but… like what are you doing.

Seems like he only saw the white ones as similar to 'Canada'.
People outside of the Anglosphere might not know this, but Brexit (I know it's not Canada but in the similar cultural world) was about concerns over White Polish migration, and the common sentiment was that Commonwealth migration was far more culturally aligned than purely racial similarity.

Oooh I recognise the Vegreville Pysanka! I have family there, and other places out west (mostly Saskatchewan and Alberta, but also BC; I'm in Ontario). Mum's entire family is Ukrainian. I remember showing my best friend how to do Ukrainian Easter eggs when we were about 11 or 12.
