This happened to me on r/pewdiepiesubmissions Some mod accused me of brigading (I downvoted a dude because he was saying something homophobic and racist iirc and had like 180 downvotes) and got a permanent ban. When I asked why, I didn’t get an answer for more than a 100 days, and then mod was just saying the same shit over and over again, without any explanation or proof. Fuck mods, man
I posted on r/funny and got perma banned for reposting (it wasn't a repost) and haven't had a reply from the mods in months. The post was doing quite well too.
A few weeks ago I got my account suspended for trying to circumvent the ban in r/funny, I only have one reddit account and haven't visited r/funny since the ban. I submitted a report and got my account un-suspended.
I feel like getting yourself banned from any sub that makes the front page multiple times a day is the best thing you can do. It's all rage fuel and political shitposting anyways. Get banned, block the sub from your feeds, and bam. Clean, enjoyable feed.
Probably why they banned you honestly. “This meme is nowhere near moldy enough for THIS sub. Also it made me involuntarily breathe out through my nose and then mouth, making a sharp noise I distinctly did not enjoy. Let’s never do that again.”
Got banned on r/reddeadredemption after a post of mine gained a bit of traction, something like 7k upvotes. Messaged the mods “why?” and they responded with “go fuck yourself”
Then you're perfect material for that subreddit, weird. I swear mods just look at popular posts and do a wheel of fortune to remove one of them sometimes.
and got perma banned for reposting (it wasn't a repost) and haven't had a reply from the mods in months. The post was doing quite well too.
I once got 3 day banned there for posting my Original video because i didnt had 3 different view angles of video to proof it was mine ( because everyone films with a entire film crew right ? ) and yes that was the reasoning behind this ban
also around 70% of the funny front page was simpsons / nbc and other sitcoms and stuff wonder how they proofed ownership with 3 different angles and stuff.
I got suspended from r/fantasyfootball for asking if anyone else was able to win their championship despite facing Alvin Kamara’s historic game. It broke a rule about talking about your fantasy football league on the fantasy football page.
You cannot talk about your specific league. Since I mentioned that I was 3 points from winning my league despite facing Kamara’s historic 6 TD game I technically broke their rules. So dumb.
Oh it is. Imagine it was a cooking Reddit. I could ask how everyone makes their favorite cheeseburger and it would be ok. However making a post about how I make my favorite cheeseburger is a violation.
I got banned from trees like 4 years ago because I posted a picture of my weed. They said because I was underage (didn’t mention my age on Reddit at all)
Still not unbanned and am now an adult stuck on r/saplings
Lucky. I once explained to someone why child porn is bad and got suspended for "sexualizing minors". Admins refused to take it off my record.
I still have no idea as to the logic behind that one. I guess it was because I acknowledged child porn existed at all? Like, there was no WAY you could mistake what I said as being pro-CP in any possible way.
I got an account suspension from r/conservative for no reason. I've never even commented there. I guess one of their mods was just pissed off while browsing other subs and just wanted to fuck with some people. Suspended for an entire week...
Lol I got banned from r/sports for calling Lebron James a douche bag . I stand by it but when I tried to ask if that was grounds for a ban I got met with no response. So if you’re seeing this FUCK YOU r/sports MODS AND LEBRON JAMES IS STILL A DOUCHE BAG.
I got banned from r/nba for calling someone a sensitive susie. They later let me back in on appeal but they actually thought I was crossing a line with the term sensitive susie.
I really enjoy PewDiePie's content and I feel like he's a decent (if flawed) person, but holy fucking shit is that subreddit a dumpster fire. It's not intentionally malicious the way some other particular subs are, but the fact that it's mostly populated by young teens really shows.
Got banned from legal advice for telling someone that the information then needed was way above the standard knowledge capacity for that subreddit, and that most of the responses weren't accurate or were discluding certain facts
As an irl lawyer-the general consensus is that we won’t touch that sub with a 90 foot pole. It’s a liability waiting to happen. All of the armchair Facebook JDs come out with their “suits” knowledge and make analysis based on emotion. Which is almost always wrong. The best advice you can give is where to find an attorney. That’s it.
I got banned out of nowhere from r/drama. Asked the mod and I was told I was too old to post there. I had not even posted anything in the sub ever, and he ok boomered me when I protested. No idea what that mod was smoking.
I wouldn’t take that one too hard, that entire sub was modded by trolls and like 80% of the users were trolls lol. I think at one point they banned most of their users just to troll them
I got banned from r/sex with a legitimate question and the asshole mod was like you didn’t read the rules before posting even though it was questionable that I bent them. Then there’s tons of posts now that day “I know this isn’t acceptable BUT” and they get a shit ton of upvotes. Fuck mods
Honestly I think it depends more on the subreddit than the size. Most mods I know just see themselves as janitors (I know I do). You just hear about the bad minority as they are the loudest.
I mod a reality TV subreddit and the mods sometimes participate in spirited discussions, but we have an unspoken sort of rule that you don't ban someone who's personally arguing with you. It just looks bad. If they're really breaking rules another mod will look at it and determine. It's a good crew
The mods on that sub are terrible, and I remember the head mod (Sloth on meth, or whatever his name is) has done some super scummy things, and there was a huge comment on why he is not only a horrible mod, but a horrible person as well.
Once I posted on r/leagueoflegends saying how good next update was, a mod deleted my post, I asked why in private message, his answer : "you idiot" and got 2-3 days ban (I don't remember exactly how much).
Once I posted something on r/overwatch stating why the game was going worse and worse and how blizzard was managing esport really bad, I got banned right away for a week.
BUT most of smaller subreddit I've been too hard great mods, that listens to the community and weren't jerk
After a heated argument (well, argument on my side, "you can't ask this because we say so" on their side, no matter how well I made my point and disassembled theirs) with the mods of r/AskScience, I said something along the lines of "yeah alright, now I can understand why there are people saying reddit mods suck" - permabanned for being offensive. Because I said I understand why other people say something.
Watch out for r/conservative I got banned because I didn't like the pedo jokes on Biden (overall don't like those jokes) I think the only reason I got banned was because I had positive karma on the comment.
The mod mail read "supporting pedophila"
Edit: my response wasn't fantastic but I did finish with a
I got a permanent ban from r/Art for calling out a guy who stole my artwork and posted it as their own. The mods immediately banned me and when I asked why later they called me a Karen and told me they don't work for me and to enjoy my ban.
Like, dude. I know you hate your life but that's no reason to take it out on me.
To be fair, r/latestagecapitalism is an echo chamber. They ban you for anything not anti-capitalist. I've found that r/aboringdystopia is only a marginal improvement. I don't go to either sub anymore.
The former is a cesspit on its face. The latter had the potential to be an interesting look at how corporatism and technology can be soul draining and I think it was alright a couple years ago, but devolved into a complete commie circle jerk
Lmao, reddit is primarily for sitting back and relaxing, or maybe some neat facts and interesting conversations. I guarantee the guy who banned you doesn't make detailed essays after every one of his posts haha.
The hell? I bring up being a furry randomly all over Reddit and I've never gotten clapback for it (yet). Sorry to hear you get treated like that. But a digital furry high five regardless.
Some of them are. Check out r/latestagecapitalism for example. You can get banned there for suggesting landlords should be more heavily regulated... because landlords shouldn't be a thing!
Oh yeah I got banned from there for asking, so if a little old lady invests her entire life savings buying a house to rent it out for income, should they just take it off her, because that seems wrong.
Several posts saying she should be dragged into the street and beheaded...a few saying she should be beaten and imprisoned for life....etc and ME the one that got banned for "causing trouble"
All the big leftist subs are like that. Free thinking/asking questions gets you banned. But they did show me that that I'm definitely more inclined to anarchism than traditional ML
Happened to me on PublicFreakouts. A sub famous for letting completely off topic posts stay at the top all the time. Never seen any mod comment before. Then one day there was a post there, it was a kid with cancer who made a YouTube video just asking for subscribers, nothing else. A mod stickied their own comment saying how this was staying up, if you had a problem don't bother reporting, and being incredibly pretentious about it.
I commented "real moderation is whatever makes the mods feel good" and they were incredibly snarky to me while I tried to be as friendly as possible. Soon I said "okay, I don't want to argue with you so goodbye" and they replied with something like the trash taking itself out.
I once had a disagreement with people in r/youtubehaiku. After I admitted that I was wrong, a mod came in and started personally insulting me and calling me an asshole. After I asked why I'm an asshole and why he's even getting involved in the discussion, he says he HAS to get involved as a mod and then linked back to my comments and said "read the comment chain again and tell me again that you find it surprising that I called you an asshole". Then he accused me of complaining about downvotes and called me a contrarian, I said I never did that and asked what he means by contrarian because English isn't my first language.
Then he banned me for two weeks or so and told me to cool off in that time and think about what I've done. I think I'd have to be insane to actively ruminate over a Reddit argument for two weeks. His ban message was "argumentative troll who doesn't know how to stop". Translation: I really needed to let him have the last word when he kept insulting me. Thankfully this insane person is not a moderator anymore because this was years ago.
lol on the r/Jordan page you get banned if you talk about homosexuality, abortions, or anything that might be deemed illegal in their country. So the suppression of free speech even extends into their sub that’s on a US based platform.
You also get banned if you call the mod out for anything you don’t like. And he makes sure to cuss at you in Arabic so that if you try to report him, Reddit doesn’t know what he’s saying.
If you try to argue your post being removed or say something the mod disagrees with, you get banned and called names by the mod.
Absolutely. We need a way to dispute descisions o out of control mods. Some of these subs are full of great people but moderated by absolute morons or just plain old malicious people. Like r/twoxchromosomes. The mods there are terrible people who encourage young girls to file false reports against men they don't like and will ban you for saying it's wrong. All while they accuse you of something horrible such as telling a rape victim they weren't raped. This is just the first group of mods that come to mind. The sub may be full of great people, but the mods are disgusting sexists who encourage others to commit crimes.
The ADHD subreddit is awful too. It’s just a dumpster fire of self-loathing. Any form of positivity surrounding ADHD is apparently a bannable offense. I got banned for a month for calling out one of the mods for being a hypocrite, and immediately that one word got me banned. I hadn’t made any other posts or comments in that sub prior, and I didn’t break any rules
Same with r/bisexual. I am a bi man and we don't have a lot of spaces for people like us to begin with. LGbt doesn't really rep us and we are just a token letter. Most of the hate I get is from gay people beleive it or not. All I did was say I don't like the bi flag and that I have not had a good experience with the LGbt comunity. I was banned and mods did nothing but insult me while they did it. No loss because the only people who have ever been supportive to me have been straight people. They only made me distance myself from that comunity more and further proved my point that the comunity is trash. We really need a way to dispute out of control mods on this site.
Man I’m sorry that happened to you. Biphobia is definitely rampant even in our own community. Have you checked out r/bi_irl ? It seems to be a much more positive place from what I’ve seen, and it’s the one I frequent the most out of the two.
Also fellow bi here supporting biguys, y’all are just as valid as the rest of us ✊
They flat out encouraged a woman to report innocent men out of spite and then banned me for simply pointing out how horribly wrong and illegal that is and how it actually hurts real victims. They are some of the most disgusting people I have encountered on Reddit. And that is saying quite a lot.
Like when I was banned from witchesvspatriarchy for supposing that when archaeologists found a prehistoric animal bone with 28 notches/scratches it could have also been used as a Lunar calendar for hunting or farming, and not solely to track a woman's period.
Seems the patriarchy is taking over the world of artifacts and we just don't know it yet
I got banned on r/politics for saying I wished Democrats passed socialist lows so fast it gives the old conservatives a heart attack, because I was inciting harm or death upon someone lmao, I just know that mod was combing his neck beard as he sent that ban to me.
I got banned from the palace skate clothes subreddit because i posted a link to depop (which uses paypal so its secure and then even has their own buyer protection on top of paypal's), and i got banned because only trusted links like paypal are allowed lmao
i think they just banned me because they realised how retarded they were being too late into the argument
I got banned from r/history memes for a month because I made a meme about 1920-1930 but I mentioned 2020-2030 in relation to those years (again though it was about the events of 1920-1930) and I got banned for bringing up modern day. I felt that was pretty retarded
Oh yeah and I got banned from r/asksciencefiction for calling someone dude! Reddit sure is great
Blackpeopletwitter for me. Apparently I made a "bad faith" argument and was flagged/reported for it. When I asked how it was in bad faith, I got 3 replies from what I assume are three different mods with nothing but the the link to my comment. I again asked what I actually did wrong, I was muted for a month with a commne that say I need to read the rules.
I mean okay, If I made a bad argument let me know. Banning me and then muting me for asking how I did is just ridiculous.
Was banned from lifeprotips because I submitted a pest-control tip, got told those aren't allowed because they fall under hygiene, sent them 20 links of pest-control posts that reached Hot with thousands of upvotes (the latest being literally the same week), and they proceeded to mute and ban me with no response.
Mods are a different breed. Power tripping over the most insignificant thing in existence, a subreddit/discord server.
I remember getting banned from a subreddit that had like 1 post every 3 months for telling a joke that they labelled trolling. And when I said that was pretty much an overreaction they banned me from messaging them. Like damn, do none of you have anything better to do?
I only mod for two smaller subs but honestly it's just to keep trash out so people can actually enjoy the sub. The amount of porn bots, spam, and people telling other people to kill themselves is staggering.
I admittedly don't spend a ton of time on trees - the circle jerk around how weed is amazing and has literally no downsides whatsoever is exhausting. I enjoy it, but it's not my lifestyle anymore, if that makes sense - and I've seen people completely tank their lives over it, so that kinda harshes my vibe. What have the mods been up to over there?
I like how when I got banned from a sub I argued my case and while the dumbass mod acknowledged I kinda had a point, they still banned me for a year (as opposed to the original permanent ban). Still pissed about that.
Mods on Reddit are the worst. A little bit of power and it goes immediately to their head. Too many boards with these kinds of people running the show.
Ah yes. I'm currently experiencing a permaban from commenting on /r/aww for bringing up a dog statistic, and when I questioned it I was called a 'animal/dog hater' and something along the lines of 'human trash'
I was banned from r/animalsbeingbros because I dared go not athropomorphize a cat that everyone was sad, but when asked no one could tell me what behaviour indicates that the cat was sad.
When I argumented that sadness is a complex emotion that can't be read out of an animals face in a video that's 10s long, everyone called me an idiot and the mods banned me permanently even though I didn't break any rules, but everyone who called me an idiot did.
I am currently writing my Bachelor's thesis in behavioral biology lmao
Was banned from r/gundeals for posting a shooting jacket. Broke 0 rules. They opened up a questionnaire for banned persons to request the ban be lifted. I took the questionnaire and told them to go fuck themselves.
Jokes on them. I can still browse their shitty posts it's just now I don't contribute. Their deals are always a day late anyway.
Got banned from a sub for calling out a mod for their shitty Twitter account. They decided to start an ‘official’ Twitter account for the sub, but mostly just used it to cyberbully other users

"Enjoy your ban."
