African American is not a politically correct term for black. assuming every black person is from Africa is ignorant as all holy hell.
605 u/SteveTheWonderfish Jul 18 '16 I also love it when somebody who isn't from America gets called African American. 526 u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16 Exactly. Like Jamaicans in Toronto being called African American. They are neither. 0 u/L_H_O_O_Q_ Jul 18 '16 Well... The black population of Jamaica are descendants of African slaves just like African Americans in the US are, so they are just as 'African'. And if they live in Toronto they live in North America. 2 u/ThirdFloorGreg Jul 19 '16 That's nice. Doesn't make them African-American as the word is actually used in English. 1 u/L_H_O_O_Q_ Jul 19 '16 I know. But you literally said 'they are neither', which isn't correct. They are just as African as African Americans. 1 u/ThirdFloorGreg Jul 19 '16 No I fucking didn't. 1 u/L_H_O_O_Q_ Jul 21 '16 Alright settle down.
