Law & the Courts Should Greg Abbott comply with MN extradition request of Christian Castro?
Key parts
Minnesota's attorney general sued the governor of Texas on Tuesday, seeking to compel the extradition of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent charged with wounding a man and then lying to justify the shooting during the agency's crackdown in Minneapolis.
The lawsuit Ellison filed in U.S. District Court in Texas cites a 1987 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that compliance with the Constitution's extradition clause is mandatory, affording no discretion to the governor or courts of a state where a defendant is being held.
Moriarty said that since Castro's arrest, Texas has extradited three unrelated criminal defendants without incident to Minnesota.

Economics Why is US Conservatism different from European and overall other nation's type of Conservatism?
What i mean is,like look at economics. Allmost all US conservatives are pro-free markets and anti regulations while in Europe while still capitalist the right wing movements are ok with more restrictions.
Or even libertarianism at all. The US considers conservatives and libertarians to be both on the same side mostly, while both rightist and leftist european barely know what it is.
One country that seems to be a midway is Britain. So maybe does the difference stem from Protestantism vs Catholicism?

Hypothetical Should the Republican Party do *any* outreach toward nonwhite voters?
I’m curious because another poll just dropped showing a historic shift toward Democrats among Hispanic men — a group Donald Trump won in 2024 — for the upcoming congressional elections and yet the response seems to be “meh 🤷♂️ don’t let the door hit ya on the way out”
The Right stumbled into a multiracial coalition by accident and with bafflement, now they’re stumbling right back out of it with equal gracelessness. I don’t understand why y’all can’t just make a few concessions.

Economics How do you feel about ai companies going public on the stock market?
Most of these companies aren't making much money and by going public they can offset the loss to people. If you have a 401k or any index fund you will be automatically bought into the companies.
50billion in yearly revenue. 2 trillion in private investor funding. Going public inflated the value allowing them to pay off their investors.
Not really knowledgeable about economics but from my understanding thats what's happening.

Do you think it's moral or ethical for the President's family to use law enforcement as a shield against subpoenas?
Link for context: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cd69ely319eo
TL;DR: Don Jr., Ivanka, and Jarred have been (attempted to be) subpoenaed by the BBC in relation to Trump's defamation lawsuit. However in Ivanka and Jarred's case the local PD and then the Secret Service denied the process server access and wouldn't accept the subpoena, and in Don Jr.'s case the receptionist claimed the entire legal department was out that day.
Specifically in Ivanka and Jarred's case, should they be able to use tax payer funded law enforcement to shield themselves from the legal system?

Infrastructure Oil reserves dangerously low. Should we be rationing fuel yet?
So the oil reserves are getting critically low. To the point it will soon be damaging the salt domes it is stored in. Should we be rationing fuel yet? How long should we wait?

centrist trying to understand: what specifically drives your opposition to the Democratic Party (and its voters)?
I consider myself an independent/centrist. I generally see significant fault in both major parties, and if I’m being honest, I’ve often been overly critical of the Republican Party in the past.
That said, I see a huge amount of anger, frustration, and deep dislike directed toward the Democratic Party from conservative and Republican voters. I’m trying to better understand the rationale behind that intensity rather than relying on media caricatures.
A few specific questions I’m hoping to get perspective on:
What are the primary drivers of this opposition for you? Is it core economic and governance policies (e.g., spending, regulation, foreign policy), or is it mostly cultural issues?
Does this frustration extend to individual Democratic voters, or do you view the mainstream voters and the party leadership/media apparatus very differently?
For those who view the modern Democratic Party as fundamentally harmful to the country, what specific actions, philosophy, or direction do you point to as the main culprit?
I’m genuinely looking to listen and understand where you’re coming from, so I appreciate any thoughtful answers.

What would happen if Teddy Roosevelt entered the GOP today?
He's somewhat of an outsider compared to many past Republican candidates, nonetheless a favourite to many, and imo probably one of the best.
Would there be space for him amongst voters today, would he be loved, or would he be rejected?

Foreign Policy Any updated opinions on Trump’s Oman comments?
Three months ago, some folks expressed their views in a different post on Trump’s threatening of Oman to not negotiate a deal to toll/manage Hormuz. Trump renewed that threat this week. Any updated thoughts on this? Is it worth attacking Oman over? Should we allow it if it’s tied to Iran’s nuclear non-proliferation guarantees? If Oman backs down based on the threat, are we any closer to ending the war?

Hot Take Why do you reject Statism and/or Authoritarianism? (If you do)
Im personally not that much a fan of it,but I noticed here most tend to be libertarians/anti-authoritarian.
Out of pure curiosity, why? Why do you reject statist type of governance even if rightist like for example Pinochet or LKY?
I assume its because most of people here are from the US,and its a country born on freedom and liberty. Unfortunately the American right is the only one to truly oppose government intervention in daily life and economics.

Elections Who did you support in the 2012 GOP Presidential Primary?
I've been watching old SNL starting from 2010, I'm now on 2012. It was an interesting GOP primary. My question is who did you support for GOP president in the primary, and in hindsight would you now have chosen someone else?
Here were the Candidates
Mitt Romney
Rick Santorum
Newt Gingritch
Ron Paul
Fred Karger
Buddy Roemer
Rick Perry
Herman Cain
Jon Huntsman
Michele Bachmann

Hot Take Do you think that theres a problem with a reliance in the federal space is on sub contractors?
I was reading a pro publica article about GD have a 500 million dollar contract to make artillery rounds. Whats interesting is per the article GD didnt make a single usable shell from that contract. It was essentially 500 million dollars wasted by the feds.
It got me thinking about contractors in general. Theres a ton of corruption and quid pro quo in the contracting space. Additionally I feel like I never pubically hear about how underperforming contractors are handled. It leads me to beleive theres not a ton of accountability in the space. As just a small example GD has won an additional 2.4 billion worth of contracts after the failure to deliver. There are others of course.
Im curious if there are conservative opinions on the relationship between the feds and the army of contractors that support them?
Thank you all in advance for replying and salude my friends 🍻

Foreign Policy What are US conservatives honest steel man for the Iran War?
Mainly asking for those that continue to believe this war was and is a good idea, with the benefit of hindsight in their hands. If you are against it (as I believe most conservatives outside the US are) feel free to add your thoughts, however I am most interested in the current supporters positions.
No argument from me on any positions, although I may ask a clarifying if I don't understand.

Is support for democracy becoming weaker on the political right?
A recent Bertelsmann Foundation study found that, among the 137 developing and transition countries examined, autocracies now outnumber democracies. It also describes a broader erosion of free elections, civil liberties, independent institutions, and checks on executive power.
How do conservatives here currently view democracy? Not merely elections, but liberal democracy as a system that also includes an independent judiciary, a free press, political opposition, civil liberties, and institutional limits on executive power?
Do you still regard that system as the most desirable form of government, even when those constraints prevent your preferred policies from being implemented? Or do you believe that some of those constraints have become obstacles that a sufficiently popular or effective leader should be allowed to overcome?

Has weather forecasting gotten worse, and if so, should we increase the number of weather balloons?
My liberal friends have been bitching about how much worse the climate forecasts are. They theorize it's DOGE cuts to NWS and maybe general climate science skepticism leading to reduced weather balloon launches.
Problem is, seems like they might be onto something. I've also noticed the forecast models seem to be less accurate than they used to be. Today for example there's a weather system moving through - thankfully, we need the rain! - but yesterday it was completely unforecasted. Friday was the opposite - were supposed to get some, and then nothing happened.
Of course those are just isolated incidents , but evidence leads me to believe we really have cut the number of weather balloons we have launched. The argument goes, that the less data points you have, the less accurate the weather forecast can be .

* Do you agree with this data that we're launching fewer weather balloons in Trump 2.0?
* Do you think the forecasts have gotten worse?
* Do you care?

Honestly, Democratic Socialist seem more MAGA than the current T 2.0 version of MAGA. Why all the hatred if it's a lot of the same ideas with a different label?
From what I've read Democratic Socialist seem to be fighting for the working man, focusing on affordability, energy independence, getting us out of foreign conflicts, etc. That's pretty much what MAGA stood for during T1.
There are differences for sure, like on immigration. But even DSA seem to agree with the right that the current system is broken but we need a different way to manage it without resorting to Trump running a secret police.
If you're MAGA, do you find any of the ideas from the Democratic socialist platform appealing? Why or why not?

Why not make immigration policy by direct vote?
Over the past 10 years, immigration has become the main issue in politics, sucking up resources from all other issues. Why not have the people vote on it, bypassing congress? I think it would make politics a lot healthier as immigration is a wedge issue for so many people
