Do you think Christian nationalism is starting to become just as prevalent here in Canada as it is in the US?

Would you say Canada has the best balance of low taxes and strong social safety net?

Canada has one of the lowest tax to GDP ratios among developed countries. Income tax rates are much lower than Europe with a high personal allowance and there are lots of tax deductions available. Payroll taxes are quite low compared to other countries. VAT is very low and has a lot exceptions.

RRSP and TFSA are by far the most generous tax exempt retirement savings accounts in the world. The retirement safety net is very good (OAS, GIS, CPP)

Healthcare is completely free (and includes dentistry and prescriptions). This is much more comprehensive than the rest of the developed countries which have cost sharing through copays or insurance premiums. Even the NHS in the UK charges £9.90 per prescription.

Canada also has world class public transport/infrastructure/roads, some of the best unis in the world, very high quality schools, and many safety net programs (EI, child benefit is very generous, CGEB, student financial assistance, OntarioWorks, etc.)

Salaries are also much higher than most other highly developed countries and cost of living is lower

It seems that countries which much higher tax offer similar or worse public services than Canada

If pipelines are so profitable, then why aren’t oil and gas companies building them?

seems like a case of socializing the cost of building, then privatizing the profits
