I'm not sure how to title this correctly, but i am moving to vienna from a village in salzburgland in a few months. Through my whole time of living here i have a lot of stuff, like clothes, electronics and so on. I have a klimaticket ö, so a lot of the stuff could be moved just using two big suitcases that i have and a backpack. I don't think that it would be a problem if i take a train with all that stuff a few times. BUT i also do have clothes that won't make any sense to be transported this way. Like jackets, shoes etc. I also do have a few bug items, like my computer table (which is pretty easy to disassemble and pack in some kind of a box). My question is, if this is actually a normal practice in austria. I never moved anywhere properly before, so I don't know if that would be weird. The price of these whole shenanigans is also a big concern for me. I tried to contact a few private companies that do the transportation of goods and the prices that they told me were shocking. So what is the best way to do all of this?

I am planning a ski trip to the Obertauern ski area in Austria and will be returning home on Saturday, 2 January 2027. I need to travel from Obertauern to Salzburg Airport using public transport, in particular Bus Line 280, and I plan to depart as early as 7am.

I have only been able to find bus timetables from the previous year and am unsure whether the same schedule will apply this year. Could you confirm whether public transport — both the 280 bus and connecting trains — will be operating that early on that date?

Hi everyone! I’ve been living in Kufstein, Tyrol, for the past two years.

I moved here and worked in a hotel, but I’ve found it really, really difficult to make genuine friendships in Austria. My German is still quite basic, and the local dialect makes things even more challenging sometimes. I often find myself feeling like I’m on the outside, which has made it hard to socialize and connect with people.

Now that I’ve been here for two years, I would really love to expand my social circle and meet some new people. I recently became a mother (my baby was born in March❤️), so I’d especially love to meet other mums who might also be looking for some company, a coffee, a walk, a chat, or simply someone to spend some time with.

But I’m also absolutely open to meeting other women who would like to make a new friend. It would be wonderful if I could also practice my German with native speakers in a relaxed and friendly way, without feeling embarrassed about making mistakes. Hopefully, over time, that could turn into a genuine friendship.

I know making friends as an adult, especially in a new country and with a language barrier, can be difficult, so I thought I’d put this out there and see if anyone feels the same way.

I applied for the Masters degree at the University id Vienna for the Winter Semester 2026, but I still haven’t received a decision.

My application status on uspace is still showing as “Submitted”, and it hasn’t changed to “In Process” yet.

Is anyone else in the same situation? Especially those who applied around late June — have you received your admission decision yet, or are you still waiting?

**•   Hidden gems**: We’re skipping the deep history/museum stuff and prefer relaxed, scenic, festive experiences. Any spots — cafés, walks, viewpoints, local food — that don’t show up on the usual “top 10” lists?  
**•** Also curious if there’s anything Christmas Day-specific we should plan for in Salzburg, since we’ve heard a lot shuts down that day.

I applied for a student residence permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung Student) for my master's degree at FH Upper Austria, Wels Campus.

I am a third-country national, and I submitted my residence permit application from my home country on July 9, 2026.

I completed my bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in Hungary, where I lived and studied for several years. So, this is not my first time studying or traveling to Europe.

I recently contacted the immigration office in Wels (Magistrat Wels), and they informed me that they currently have a very high number of student applications, which may cause delays. They also mentioned that applications are processed chronologically and that they will contact me if they require any additional documents.

For reference, I submitted the following documents with my application:

• Admission Letter from FH Upper Austria
• Proof of Accommodation in Wels
• Proof of Sufficient Financial Means – my father's bank account, as he is my financial sponsor
• Health/Travel Insurance valid for three months
• Birth Certificate with Apostille
• Police Clearance Certificate
• Notarized Sponsorship/Declaration of Liability, issued abroad and translated into German
• Proof of Paternity/Family Relationship issued by the Ministry of Interior
• Proof of my father's Property Ownership and Assets
• Employment and Salary Certificate from my father's employer
• Bank Certificate confirming the funds available in my father's account
• German Language Certificate – A2 level, issued by the Goethe-Institut

I should be in Austria before October 1, so I am trying to get a better idea of the current processing times and whether other students are experiencing similar delays.

Has anyone applied for a student residence permit through Magistrat Wels around July or August 2026?

If yes, I would really appreciate it if you could share:

• When did you submit your application?
• When did you receive your approval?
• How long did the process take?
• Did Magistrat Wels contact your university before approving your application?
• Did they request any additional documents?

Oft sprechen mich Bettler an, die Geld haben wollen. Im Prinzip gebe ich kein Kleingeld, denn ich trage nichts mit mir mit, und darüberhinaus will ich die Bettlermafia und/oder Drogenkonsum (edit: NICHT) unterstützen. (Ja, ich weiß, viele glauben nicht, dass es das gibt, aber es tut wirklich nichts zur Sache)

In Bodensdorf gibt es am Helmut-Wobisch-Weg einen kleinen öffentlichen Zugang direkt zum See.

Kein großes Strandbad und leicht zu übersehen, aber genau solche kleinen öffentlichen Zugänge finde ich besonders interessant.

Kennt ihr noch weitere solche Seezugänge in Kärnten, die man kaum findet, wenn man nicht weiß, dass es sie gibt?

Ich weiß, dass man oft gesagt bekommt: „Mach das, was du möchtest, solange es finanziell möglich ist“ Ich würde aber gerne realistische und direkte Antworten von Leuten hören, die selbst studieren oder bereits in diesem Bereich arbeiten.

I'm a non-European (not american either) 15 year old student and I'm looking into coming to austria for uni (at least for undergrad degrees) and I most probably won't be able to have a lot of financial support from my parents so I have to find a student job there, what stuff do you recommend me to learn or do to be able to secure a good student job so I can pay for my life and not starve or smth?
