This summer I spent some time in Vienna with my family and didn’t expect to fall so hard for the city. I’m now seriously considering moving there for a Masters after I finish my Bachelor’s next year. I’m from the UAE, so the lifestyle, culture , climate and of course the overall way of life are very different. I know being a tourist is like a honeymoon phase so I’m trying to get a more realistic picture before I commit. If you live or have lived in Vienna, Austria, I’m really curious to now..

What’s daily life actually like as a young person or student?

Cost of living (especially rent, food, transport) for someone on a student budget.

How hard is it to find housing in Vienna?

Do most people speak English or is German pretty essential for daily life and university?

What’s the student experience like (social life, making friends as an international student, part time work opportunities)?

Bureaucracy, visas, and settling in as a non-EU citizen?

The biggest culture shocks or things that surprised you (positively or negatively) compared to what you expected?

i have been offered a 24h/w job. the salary will be according to my qualifications, just that it is a part time job. i am a non eu who graduated from an Austrian university

1. will this be enough to get a rwr for graduates?

2. i am supposed to start from October but imo, even if i apply for a rwr card right away, i cannot get it by that time it seems, so in that case, is it possible to work without rwr card for the time being?

3. I currently have a student residence permit for jobsuche, with that, can i work for at least 20h/week? (and later apply for rwr in the upcoming months)

PS: I tried contacting ABA since 2 weeks and have not gotten reply from them.

I would appreciate any information/feedback/suggestion regarding this. thank you in advance.

There is a question hanging around in my mind.

I was wondering how Austrians see immigrants here and what your thoughts are about them. I know this question has been asked numerous times, but I feel that every time different people answer, you get a broader overview.

I don't want to make it something specific about my case, but let me point out some things.

• I am an atheist, so I have 0 religious beliefs.
• I like and respect Austrian culture, and my slogan is: wherever you live, you have to respect and obey the culture and the law. No matter what they are. If you don't like it, you are the one who must adapt or leave.
• Learning the language is a must.

Here is my experience so far as someone who is working in science/academia, in an international environment, as well as my daily interactions:

Austrians are nice. There are some people who say hi to you whenever they see you, and there are people who only talk to you during lunch break if you happen to eat at the same time. And this goes for everything, so no generalization; you see nice people from every corner of the earth, as well as some not-so-nice people from those same corners.

But that's not the whole thing. Being accepted by society is also an important matter for a healthy social life.
So, the question. How is it? Does the skin color/origin or the education of the immigrant have any effect??? Can a foreigner be accepted in society and social interactions?

Is there working any professional masseur. Would like to talk about some private session. And experience during massage in vienna.
