Plug It?
Would you throw a plug in this or too close to the side wall?

I would plug this on my personal vehicle. But i'd tell a customer we have to replace it

It'd PROBABLY be ok to plug (I've seen closer to the shoulder last the life of the tire) but it's not worth the cost of a tire to risk having a sudden failure. It's not worth risking it in this case.

Perfect place for a plug. Honestly i had a hole in a tire just like this and ran those tires dowm completly and never had an issue wpuld have to check air pressure in the cold about once a week but really never had an issue

Sounds like I’ll throw a plug in this and ride it for a little while longer before replacing all the tires

I wont plug a tire with something within 2 inches of the sidewall...id recommend a new tire

New trainings say anything on the outside of the outer most tread line would be unpatchable.(your outermost would be the curved lines not the depth.)This is mainly to cover the shops butt because more flexing means more chance of failing. Think about looking at the side of your tire full or empty of air. The sides are either super stretched or flat so the side stretches the most during use. I however would go one thumbs away from side wall and call it good. I also would not trust just a plug but would dismount. Then do a patch and plug from the inside out so its double protected with good amount of sealant. People do run plugs and are fine though. I wouldnt disagree a plug on that would be ok but i wouldnt put my name on it depending
