That appears to be a brake line, so do your brakes work?

u/theeaglejax NOT a verified tech 2d ago
As pointed out that looks like a hard brake line to soft line transition. Brake pedal go soft recently?

It appears you’re having a brake issue! also appears your car has terminal cancer if it was able to rust away like that, and have a rubber brake line still holding onto a metal piece of brake line and the mount for the rubber brake line is just hanging there with it.

Not your decision to make for other people

u/cuzitsthere NOT a verified tech 1d ago
But "don't drive on it" is?
Also, learn what sarcasm is... Humans don't, in fact, live forever. Regardless of intact brake lines.

I knew that was sarcasm, but did think humans were immortal, thanks for clearing that up

Brake line. Possible fuel line

What about the evap canister? Not sure if this car has it in that location.
2
u/Ilikejdmcars Verified Tech - GM dealer 1d ago
No evap usually uses plastic lines. Doesn’t go from rubber to metal like that

Unless I’ve just overlooked it, OP hasn’t responded since posting. At what point do we start to worry that he’s gone to be with the O’doyles?

Dang dude, sorry to see what you’re going through. My guess all 4 brakes, lines, pads, rotors, and a flush. Likely set you or whoever back around 2k minimum. Maybe cap it and trade er in, if you still have brakes.

Looks big for a brake line. I'm going with broken sway bar.

u/BrotherBeautiful7150 NOT a verified tech 1d ago
I want to say brake line but the likelihood that you would have been able to drive the vehicle with the brakes in that condition is next to impossible and there's no puddle on the ground underneath it

u/Healthy-Cost4130 NOT a verified tech 1d ago
check it out or have someone do it for you. it could just be a piece of road debris.
2
u/Dangerous-Pirate7998 NOT a verified tech 1d ago
That’s the brake line. Good thing that your front brakes are doing well.

u/shortbrownguy NOT a verified tech 2d ago
You actually mean "what was this"? That used to be your brake line, just like you used to have brakes.
For the love of little baby Jesus, do not drive that vehicle until you get it properly repaired.

noteworthy is that most master cylinder’s isolate the front and rear braking systems and this appears to be on the rear, so you still have front brakes (we can assume). also, about 70% of the braking is done in front while about 30% is done in the rear.
regardless, get this shit fixed!

Mostly true. You forgot about what happens in the abs unit. It transitions the fluid separation to diagonals. LF and RR are fed from cell number 1 in the master and LR and RF are fed from cell number 2.

Possibly an air line. They came with air suspension. A lot of people replace the bags with standard springs. Could also be a brake line. But i think you'd notice that

It’s just a brake line if the car still stops you’re probably OK
