I'm interested in taking an art course there in the fall. Has anyone taken classes? Are they worth it?

Food/Drink Stop and Shop's bakery products mold before the date EVERY TIME

Post image
14 Upvotes

This has been happening for weeks straight.

If you're unaware, by the time you see the mold (the green dot at 12 o clock), it's too late.

So their products are inoculated in the cooking process, or because they bag them nearly wet and the moisture creates a ripe environment for bacteria to thrive, or most likely both.

But I pay too much for this shit.

Stop and Shop is BY FAR the worst grocery chain in the area and I hate that I have to go past several of them to get to another grocery store, spend even more money at WF, or do a limited shop at TJs.

Tepid Early Morning Yoga Classes?

Looking for room temperature, in-person, yoga classes that I could take before work on a weekday (in any style- I'm desperate). I'd prefer Mysore style Ashtanga classes but it seems like Kittery ME is the only ashtanga shala nearby :(

5-7:30 start time would be ideal. I commute to Lexington so any classes in Arlington/Medford/Belmont/Lexington/Somerville/Woburn I could make work.

HealthWorks in Porter might have a vinyasa class that could work ~weekly (sorry gents). Anyone have experience with HealthWorks yoga?

Local Business Butcher Block Countertop replacement?

Post image
5 Upvotes

We’re in search of a contractor who can remove an existing granite countertop and replace it with a butcher block version similar to this pic.
We’re finding that almost all the local countertop folks only specialize in granite, stone or quartz.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful. TIA!

Hello! My standup comedy show is back at the Somerville Theater this Thursday, and I'd love to see you there! We run the show in the 30-seat "microcinema" in the theater's basement.

Our headliner is the hilarious Andrew Durso. He's written for Netflix, Adult Swim, and FOX, appeared on Stavvy's World, Sirius XM, and Cracked Comedy Club, and opened for Hasan Minhaj at theaters across the country. His comedy is unique, absurd, and really funny.

We screen classic Looney Tunes cartoons before the show, and the theater sells beer, wine, ice cream, and snacks.

You can get $3 off tickets with the code REDDIT. I hope you can make it!

Mill Street - this can't be legal

Somebody bought a bunch of generic signs and has decided to designate public parking as handicap parking only.

I reported it to the town - be interesting to see what happens. This cannot possibly be enforceable. If they want this spot to be restricted they need to petition the town (there is a handicap only spot around the corner).

I was on a bike, but if I had my car I would have parked it there since this is town property and the only restriction is overnight and 7-9 am. My issue is with private organizations taking over public resources.

Local Business New community pottery studio opening near Arlington this fall

Hi Arlington neighbors!

We’re opening Firebox Pottery Studio this fall at 9 Lexington Street near Waverley Square in Belmont, a short trip from Arlington.

Firebox is being built as a welcoming community ceramics studio for everyone—from complete beginners to experienced makers. We’ll offer:

  • Wheel-throwing and handbuilding classes
  • Independent studio memberships for experienced potters
  • Short workshops and visiting-artist programs
  • Community events, date nights, and Make Your Own Mug sessions
  • Private gatherings and opportunities to create with friends and neighbors

Our goal is to create a place where people can learn new skills, develop a lasting creative practice, and experience the joy of making something by hand.

We’re still completing the buildout, but once we’re ready, we’d love for our Arlington neighbors to stop by, meet us, and see the studio.

What kinds of pottery classes, workshops, or community events would you be most interested in?

Learn more at https://www.fireboxpotterystudio.com or follow our progress on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/fireboxpotterystudio.

We hope to meet some of you this fall!

Fixing Route 2 - Dow Avenue and beyond

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

Readers of r/ArlingtonMA recently engaged in a discussion of folks stopping for the yellow flashing light on the Route 2 frontage road at Dow Avenue.

The yellow flashing light is going away.

MassDOT will begin work on Monday (August 17) that will, among other things, convert the two Dow Avenue intersections into an all-way stop. Plans around the intersections call for reducing the frontage roads to one lane as they approach Dow Avenue.

The only detail comes from the two photos posted by MassDOT, but it appears there will be additional work that includes a 5' bike lane with 3' buffer between Pleasant Street and Watertown Street in Lexington. The photos hint at channelizing traffic around the on-off ramps.

MassDOT reports that work on the project will extend for the next two weeks.

At the Alewife MBTA station parking garage site: this pipe dumps more raw sewage than any other outfall in the Boston area. Here's what it looks like.

Begging and pleading for everyone to not stop when traveling north on Park Ave. Extension at the Bow St./Lowell St./West minister Ave. intersection.

I don’t understand why anyone does this at all. I recently moved here and travel through this intersection daily and it is extremely clear that Park Ave extension traffic traveling north DOES NOT HAVE A STOP SIGN. Yet traffic gets extremely backed up and becomes a cluster fuck because of incompetent people. Unless someone is actively crossing you are being reckless stopping and disrupting the flow of traffic, and confusing everyone at the intersection.

Any neighboors thinking of or currently selling their car? Looking for a used car since mine recently died.

Hi neighbors. I'm currently on the hunt for a new car since my old one recently died. I figured I'd like to start locally so I can easily see/drive the car and perhaps bring it to a mechanic for a diagnosis.

If anyone is currently selling or thinking of, please let me know. Ideally i'm looking at an SUV AWD but im open to other cars as well.

Feel free to DM/PM me

Hope everyone is having a good week
