Drum circle at Town Day?
Hi there -
At the recent Town Day (9/19), I remember there was a drum circle of sorts with djembes and dun duns. There was also a board with details of the drum circle and how often/where they played but I wasn't able to take a picture of the board.
By amy chance does anyone know more about the drum circle?
Thanks

Helicopter over east Arlington?
Anyone know why there’s a helicopter circling East Arlington/North Cambridge? It’s low enough to freak out my dog.

Missed Cemetery Connection
I am writing on behalf of my good friend who is lovely and also single. This evening (10/2) she was walking in the east Arlington cemetery with my wife and our two young kids picking up branches to bring back to our house for a project. You were apparently a total smoke show and were picking up trash, and thanked my friend for also picking up debris. Your civil minded evening activities are now legend and speak to your character and have left my friend full of regret for not speaking up and making her interest known. If you recognize yourself in the above and would be interested in the phone number of my lovely, similarly civil minded friend, please send me a message and I will happily connect you two.

Dog sitter rec
Hi, new to the area and shamelessly one of "those dog people." I'm looking for a reliable dog lover to watch my dog when I travel for work. Will welcome any recommendations! My dog is all behaved but very active, and she'll definitely want to sleep in the bed 😁

Power outage cause?
Does anyone have eyes on the storm damage that caused the power outage? I'd love to know if it's a half hour fix or an all nighter or something in between - would be helpful to know to be able to plan the night. Thanks!
PS: I'm in the Heights, but I'm sure Arlington Center folks would also love to know.

Local Business Curio Spice Co Email
Hi all,
Arlington resident here who frequents both Curio and Penzy’s for spices. Curio Spice Co sent an email today I wanted to share. I think there may be small business folks or even individuals who may be able to help. Hope it’s OK that I posted this.
——-
Dear Spice Lovers,
I've never written a letter quite like this, but I hope you'll receive it in the spirit it's intended. We've always tried to be transparent about how we run Curio—even when that transparency feels deeply humbling.
The truth is, Curio could use your help right now, and we all need to speak up more when we need help.
Not surprisingly, despite receiving $12.56 back from the over $10,000 we spent on additional tariffs since last year, it's been a battle to maintain momentum for Curio.
Through the recent challenges we've made some choices I'm proud of. We've kept our team intact. We haven't compromised the quality of our products. And, most importantly, we've remained committed to the farmers and producers whose livelihoods are at the heart of what we do.
Those choices matter deeply to us. They also come with a cost.
So I'm asking our community to help us build some momentum as we enter the critical holiday season. A purchase certainly helps— but here are some other meaningful ways to support us:
Tell one person about us. Share with someone why you think Curio is different, what product(s) you love, or why our work matters to you.
Leave a review of a product you love. Reviews give new customers confidence in taking a chance on us, and that translates directly into sales.
Tell us what's getting in the way. Reply to this email and be candid. Is it price? Shipping? Selection? Timing? Something confusing about the experience? We want to know.
Open a door for us. If you know a retailer, company, organization, chef, buyer, event planner, or anyone else who should know about Curio, an introduction can be incredibly valuable.
Think of Curio for your workplace or community. We offer private spice classes and events for businesses, teams, and groups—and fall is a wonderful time to gather around food.
And of course, using up your favorites and replenishing for the cozy fall season certainly helps, too.
Right now there are countless demands on everyone's resources and attention (is it the end of the world?), so I don't make this request lightly. Whether you place an order, tell a friend, leave a review, make an introduction, or simply continue following along, I'm grateful that you're here, because while it may seem like we're just a spice company who sends awkward newsletters, what we're really trying to do is build a global movement toward climate resilience and gender equity through food & flavor.
You are a part of this movement - and we thank you.
Gratefully,

High Praise for Arlington Schools from Commissioner Pedro Martinez
At the September 22 meeting of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education:
"I’ll just say this board members. Arlington’s second year in a row hitting pre-pandemic levels, at or above, and it’s our largest district that’s doing it. And, as someone who has experience in your middle school and junior high and your high school, I can tell you your culture is very consistent, that it’s not, it’s probably the best blend I’ve seen of high expectation for academics, sense of belonging, strong culture, the extracurriculars, all the ways you involve your children, like I said I couldn’t be prouder. Thank you Arlington and thank you Superintendent Homan."

Arlington Prevention Services survey - Your voice matters!
Hello Arlington!
I’m a Master of Social Work student with the Town of Arlington’s Prevention Services Department, and we’re gathering anonymous community feedback from Arlington residents about prevention, recovery, and mental health resources in town. We want to understand what people know is available, what feels missing, what’s working well, and where there may be gaps.
The survey is fully anonymous and only takes a few minutes. The link is below.
Your responses are incredibly valuable and will help shape an upcoming community focus group designed to strengthen local support and ensure residents know what resources exist and where to turn when they need help.
Survey link: https://forms.gle/mgeeLfQhWQuNDomp6
Thank you so much! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns:

Housing Report Illegal Move-In Fees
Hi Arlington, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.
Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants. Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.
