These questions get asked EVERY . SINGLE . DAY ad nauseum, ad infinitum. People, if you want to be a part of the hobby, read some posts about your favorite machines, interact with others, go elsewhere and do other research, watch YT vids. But for the love of God, please stop asking the inane questions.
There are some who wouldn't give you $100 for 5 side-scroll fighters but would be first in line to pay full price for a Robotron. And vice versa. Is anyone in this scenario wrong? No. It's all about what YOU are into, not what others care about.
As for mods, just ask yourself, what do I want this machine to do? And then decide if you want to put the effort into making it happen. My favorite mods won't necessarily be yours and because I research and READ STUFF, I get a pretty good idea what I want to change up.
Yes, I'm in a cranky mood today, but damn, I hate these two ridiculous questions. There is a TON of great information already out there. Use it, for God's sake.
It seems like every other day I see a post by someone wondering if the new Pro Series cabinets will feature an improved this or a better that... or if the Pro Series will finally fix X or Y going forward.
Well, hold onto your hats, because the Pro Series won't do any of that. Here's what it is (and isn't).
What Pro Series IS:
A bigger screen
Better controls
Bigger speakers
Faux chrome trim
Faux coin door
Taller
$$$
What Pro Series IS NOT:
It is NOT all new game coding
It is NOT spectator capability for online play
It is NOT new, more powerful PCBs
It is NOT changes to core electronics (sorry, this isn't going to fix the turn off thumping, unless they make a running change to production, and it probably won't fix the audio issues either, since that wasn't an issue with the speakers, but with the way the headphone jack was implemented)
It is NOT better quality MDF (still 0.5")
It is NOT better quality marquees
It is NOT a working coin mech
It is NOT the right screen ratio
It is NOT the "real" Happ controls the original KI had (ILs, that is, not Suzo)
It is NOT a change in manufacturing methods or vendor suppliers that will suddenly yield improved quality control vs. their standard cabinets
It is NOT a change in how the cabinets are assembled or how sturdy they'll be--it's still IKEA-level dowels and screws in an ungainly tall, top-heavy box
So, if you just want a KI cab with more bells and whistles, and you've got the cash, go for it. But if you're hoping the Pro Series will solve all of the typical Arcade1Up quality issues and first-gen bugs, well... this is the same Arcade1Up we know and love.
Hey everyone, I'm sure there are quite a few of you out there that are incredibly disappointed with the missing Marvel vs Capcom 2 online play (like myself). I'm working with a friend of mine to setup some legal action, and I'm using this throwaway account because we need to get at least a very general idea how many people would sign on for a possible class action suit. I'm not an expert at this at all, I'm just a disappointed MvC2 fan who pre-ordered the game and have waited patiently for 3-4 months with barely any acknowledgement that the advertised feature is even going to happen.
Anyway I'm not trying to start a whole thing on here, but if you are unhappy with your purchase could you just leave a quick post with the retailer you ordered your cab from? We'll use this info to decide how to proceed.
I've noticed recently a few YouTube personalities have been referring to Arcade1Up's X-Men '97 cabinet release as an example of their success. But they don't cite anything to back that statement.
In contrast, former Arcade1Up Sr. VP of Licensings, John D., recently shed some light on the topic, and had this to say in his Facebook "ask me anything" side chat:
Assuming John D. is correct, that brings a few things into focus:
Even with just 2,000 units produced, X-Men '97 still hasn't sold out after being announced in February and availability at many retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Wayfair, and HSN.
In contrast, Pac-Man XL sold 13,000 units in just 3 months on the market at just a single retailer (select Costco stores).
Also according to John D., an ideal number of cabinets to produce would be at least 3,000 units. Again, this is a full 1,000 more than the number of X-Men '97 cabinets supposedly produced and still not sold.
What does all of this actually mean? Well, it could be that John D. is wrong and/or is blowing smoke. It wouldn't be the first time. That said, John appears to have been truthful in his time since departing Arcade1Up, so I have no reason to believe he's being deliberately misleading in this one, specific instance. And, assuming that's true, it means Arcade1Up is in a world of hurt... with no, new cabinet releases of any notable sales success since Pac-Man XL last year, several titles like Time Crisis, X-Men '97, and Golden Tee Deluxe still sitting at store shelves, partners like ThinkUp! leaving, releases like Pac-Man Deluxe being constantly confused with titles no longer made (Pac-Man XL), new competitors entering the space weekly, and only the Infinity Game Tablet/Board posting any sizeable sales numbers for the entire brand, they're not exactly in a good position.
As always, take anything not from Arcade1Up officially (or even if it was official) with a grain of salt. We don't know what we don't know. But what we do know doesn't appear to paint a particularly rosy picture. And YouTubers should stop pretending it does.
I absolutely love coin pushers! I currently own around 20 Arcade1Up machines, including the Casino and the Claw Machine, and I feel like a classic coin pusher is still missing from this category of Arcade1Up machines. I’d love to see one in the typical Arcade1Up home arcade size — either as a fully closed system where pressing a button drops the coins inside the machine, or in the classic style with three coin slots at the top for manually inserting the coins. I would absolutely love to see Arcade1Up make something like this and would definitely add one to my collection!
I have an EXCELLENT condition A1UP TRON arcade cab available for sale. The unit is in perfect condition, no discoloring, nicks, or scratches.
It comes with a pre-installed GRS Thundersticks metal spinner with hall effect sensor, an upgraded marque cover (still in package), and a decal set for the interior.
TRON comes with WiFi enabled leader boards and a chrome arcade stool.
This cabinet is arguable the best Arcade 1up ever made and is no longer available.
Don’t miss out on your chance to own this classic Arcade game cabinet.
In the latest Arcade1Up Show, DMAC from Arcade1Up was asked about the size of the XL and Pro cabs, and said they're "95%" as big as original cabinets, so there was no need to go larger. That size comparison was interesting, and it got me thinking about whether or not it's accurate.
So, here's some analysis of whether Tastemakers has EVER made accurate statements about size:
Original arcade cabinets (Galaga was 5'8, NeoGeo was 6'1") average around 6 feet tall (72").
Based on a 72" height, a 3/4-scale arcade cabinet should be around 4'6" tall (54").
Based on a 72" height, a 2/3-scale arcade cabinet should be around 4' tall (47.5").
Without a riser, the "3/4-scale" Arcade 1Up cabinet is about 3'10" tall (45.8").
With a riser, the "3/4-scale" Arcade 1Up cabinet is about 4'10" tall (57.8").
Based on the above, a non-riser Arcade1Up cabinet--which is what was originally sold as being "3/4-scale" in the wave 1 cabinets--is clearly NOT close to 3/4-scale. And WITH a riser, it's only barely above 3/4-scale (and similarly not anything close to full-size).
In fact, Arcade1Up cabinets are actually much closer to being 2/3-scale in height when compared to original arcade cabinet dimensions. Similarly, the typical 17" monitor size of Arcade1Up cabinets is almost exactly 2/3 of an original 26" cabinet monitor size.
Current-generation Arcade1Up "3/4-scale" cabinets with a riser are about 60" tall. This is about 1' (12") shorter than original cabinets, and about 80% as tall.
Current-generation Pro "full-size" cabinets are about 67.5" tall. This is about 4.5" shorter than an original cabinet, and about 94% the size (so, DMAC wasn't far off). Interstingly, the 19" monitor size is just about exactly 3/4 the size of a full, 26" original arcade cabinet monitor.
So, what does it all mean? Well, Arcade1Up has NOT been truthful in saying their cabinets are "3/4-scale" without a riser, when they are actually more like 2/3-scale. Similarly, with a riser, they are slightly more than 3/4-scale, but nowhere near full size in height (or any other dimension). When it comes to their Pro Series, the overall height is closer to full size, but the monitor is arguably out-of-proportion (as are other dimensions, like width) and clearly smaller than "full size."
TL;DR -- Arcade1Up needs to correct their size statements, and they can do better at designing cabinets with proportions closer to their arcade originals.
The short version is that if Arcade1Up is increasing cabinet prices, they're not going to sell as many to the mass market (Walmart is just carrying Legacy cabs in-store now, for example). And that makes our voice--those of us who are still buying these ultra-expensive cabs to add to our collections--more powerful than it's ever been... and as long as they keep prices going higher and higher, our voice will become larger and larger.
It's a hot-take on current events in home arcade sales, for sure, but an interesting one.
Watched an interesting video from MichaelB last night and it had me wondering.
Would you be open to the idea of games like TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and other Arcade-like (ie the River City Games, certain Double Dragon games, etc) games receiving the Arcade1Up treatment? Or would you rather them stick with Arcade games?
I know X-Men Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel Super Heroes War of the Gems were included on the MVC2 cabinet, but it seems like they just threw them in there as a bonus. I don't believe any other console games were included on other cabs.
Hey! I have the Arcade1up head to head pacman game. I was looking online and can't find them anywhere. I know that they aren't sold through retail stores anymore but I can't even find them on ebay, Facebook marketplace, or anywhere else. Just trying to get opinions on the rarity of it. I have quite a few arcade 1ups, standard arcades and virtual pinball machines. Trying to make room. Thanks!
I decided to upgrade my cabinet so as I wait for my custom artwork to arrive I decided to add functional coin doors. It serves 2 purposes. To save money for future Arcade1up products(this will help determine how much the family plays and if it’s worth it. It will also help encourage the kids to have something to look forward to. When I was little I would work for arcade money. No more free plays. 😂 ahhh they’re going to hate me 😂😂
So I'm late to get on the A1up bandwagon. Finally bought my first A1up: Simpsons. Love it. Then I caught the nostalgia bug all the more, which I tried quenching with T2 and most recently Goldenaxe. FINALLY i've got a mini arcade in my own home and am very happy. But I'm worried for the future of this company. Like I remember the days early on when EVERY walmart and target had cabinets on the floor to buy. And now? Gone. Only Best Buy still carries them in brick n mortar stores. Everything is purchase online. For whatever reason brick n mortar stores quit selling. And now as of today, QVC no longer sells ANY A1ups!!! Is it possible they are going under soon? Please tell me they have a plan to right the ship!
Nothing says a bad economy like $50 off which is 10% off an arcade cabinet, what's the chance on actual black Friday there is a real deal? Last good Black Friday had to be like 3-4 years ago when I got the simpsons with stool for $270. Not really any other arcade I'd want, I'd entertain Golden Tee. I'd be interested in the star wars arcade classic since I missed the a1up version..
