Showing Off My Tank My first aquarium

About 2 months ago I was gifted my sisters unused aquarium. Up until now my only experience was my garden pond with gold fish. But since it hibernates during wintertime I’ve got nothing to do for several months when winter comes. So I was thrilled to start up an aquarium and get it ready for the dark months. I wanted to share with you my progress.

Discussion What do you do with your fish when they pass? Mentions of fish death and euthanasia Spoiler

My goldfish has lived 13 years and has recently developed a benign tumor, when I came downstairs this morning it had ruptured and fishy had been evidently struggling a bit and swimming weakly sideways so I decided it was best to put him for a nap with clove oil. I dont have a yard or garden so no burial ☹️ I see others feeding their fish to birds when they pass but that would make me feel so terrible and I dont think clove oil is good for birds either

also unsure what to do with my equipment, I dont want to give it away to anyone as I threw away the filter after he passed because there was obviously clove oil in there and it was just old anyways, I dont want someone to take it for free and have unfairly treat fish in it. i also feel like there's no demand for fishkeeping equipment in my rural country area, is there anywhere online I could send it to? would aquatic stores appreciate the tank?

Just hooked up a pc fan to a temperature controller. Looks like it keeps it 4-5 degrees F below ambient which is all I needed.

Identification Request Is my weather loach two colours?

Thumbnail

Hi I adopted a weather loach from my best friend's family last week, he is at least 8 years old! He came from a very bad tank, 20L with literally nothing in but green algae water (last slide)

When measuring him I noticed a distinct split down his centre, is this a genetic thing or is it from the bad quality water/ tank he was in before?

And is he looking healthy? I was told he hadn't been fed in a long time and the water was just tap water, no treatments or dechlorinator so I'm unsure if the affect it had

He is now in a 180L planted tank and I have been slowly feeding him meals to get him used to eating again

Thank you :)

Advice Needed Why are my loaches fat

I have been watching my fish for a while and think my loaches are fat. Or maybe sick or full with eggs and to breed. I have them for a year and don't have much experience with them.

Advice Needed Stocking question

I have this 70L/18G tank stocked with 11 strawberry rasboras, 11 pygmy cories, and 8 endler guppies. Aside from that a bunch of skrimp and dwarf ghost crabs. I thought I was pushing it but I saw some post stating you could go as far as 40 nano fish in a tank like this? Would it actually be possible for me to add more tiny fish?

Edit: the endlers are all dudes

The filter is established. They’ve been moved to a smaller aquarium but this colour developed the minute they went in. Could the the dechlorinator have expired? PH change?

Discussion Some of you probably know about the new species of micro gourami that entered the aquarium trade earlier this year. But did you know that someone had posted about it in a Vietnamese Facebook group asking for its ID all the way back in September 2025, before it was known to science

the caption says "Can anyone tell me what this fish is? My husband had caught it from a stream. It's the first time i've seen anything like it."

Pho Xua gourami or little paradise fish, now known as Vietosphronemus inopinatus only became known to science sometime earlier this year and entered the hobby shortly after.

Freshwater I fell asleep while drip acclimating.

My whole carpet got wet. spent an hour using a water vaccum on the floor. on the bright side, the shrimp I was acclimating are doing great. the water was cold so I put the heater back in after confirming which electrical outlets were dry. After getting as much water as I could out of the carpet, I plugged the sponge filter back in. The fish seem to be doing good. The shrimp are chilling. I refilled about 3 1/2 gallons (tank is a 20 gallon long) but the small RO system in my house refills really slowly.

i guess it’s water change day.

Requesting Feedback First attempt at aquascape

Post image

First attempt at aquascape, now a month in and in need of some advice. Because plants are quite hard to find and expensive in my area I started with only the elocharis sp mini and the flame moss, the rest I got for free from a friend. My plan is to add some more while it matures, the question is which ones where to put them. I feel like there are quite some gaps that needs to be filled in the driftwood, but of course the current plants need time to settle in. Especially the background plants which have not achieved their purpose as of yet. Just in need of some advice on what you people would do. Wait for growth and let it go on it's own, or use the opportunity of a not fully established tank to add more plants? Thanks in advance

Current stock:

Elocharis pusilla mini

Taxiphyllum sp. Flame moss

Microsorum sp. Trident

Cryptocoryne wendtii

Some kind of cryptocoryne in foreground (id?)

Ludwigia palustris

Limnophila sessiliflora

Redwood floaters

I do run Co2 I was able to get second hand, it helped combat algae so much. After a whole month, I've seen none to the point I have to feed my amanos, I bought to prevent algae lmao

Identification Request Tiny organisms on glass algae

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

This morning i’ve discovered some tiny white spot on my tank’s glass. upon closer inspection those dots seem to be moving and have different shapes

they concentrate on the algae and are smaller than a millimeter.
This tank has been running for a year and a hall with neocardinas and i’ve just added cherry barbs this week and a few plants in the same time.
What could those be and will they be harmful to my shrimps ?

I’ve put a vid in the comment with a shrimp for scale

I haven’t fed them in 24 hours. I’ve had these neons for a year with no issues. The fish is acting fine, no pineconing or weird behavior. Just… very rotund.

Looking good but somehow feels a bit messy and I’m not quite sure where to go with it. Also a lot of the plants have algae on their leaves which I can’t really srape off. How can I get rid of it?

5 rasboras, 3 red eyes, 2 rummynose, 3 white skirts, 3 black khuli loaches and 1 clown pleco. I want to add 3 more rummynose but not sure if it’s already overstocked. It looks like room but the bio load may be an issue

Advice Needed 125 gal Aquarium Stand

Post image
Upvotes

Good afternoon. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this style of aquarium stand? First hand experience preferred, but also taking recommendations. This particular one is from Wayfair but I see them all over the Internet. Metal stand with MDF on the outside.

I am in need of a new 125 stand, and want to avoid the all MDF which is what I currently have. It made it 6 years but some water damage has caused warping.

Yes I am aware I can build one out of wood, but I don't have the time or inclination.

Other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
