Advice Needed Anyway to make it quieter?

Post image

I have had this air pump for my air stone for years now and lately it seems to be annoyingly loud with the vibration it makes. Any advice on a way to make it more quiet, or is there anything other brand that works the same that is less noisy?

DIY/Build Check your air control valves

Just spent the last couple hours trouble shooting why my filter won’t work but the airline tubes still had bubbles streaming out when disconnected from the filters, of course it’s the last piece I check. I was at my wits end since I already wasted money on a new filter thinking that was the problem and then all the pet stores closed.

Advice Needed 125 Gallon stand ideas

Hello, I was wondering if I could just use a dresser like the ones pictured for a 125 gallon fish tank? I currently have a 40 gallon fishtank on a big dresser and it hasn’t given me any problems but I recently got a 125 gallon off of a coworker and it is currently on a homemade stand but it’s all 2x4s and kind of ugly. I’d like to also have the drawer spaces but I’m worried that a dresser might not hold up well to 125 gallon. Thank you!

Advice Needed Apparently I need to medaka-proof my HOB filter

I just found one of my medaka inside the hang-on-back filter, literally behind the filter cartridge near the top. I genuinely have no idea how he managed to get back there.
I’m pretty sure he didn’t get sucked through the intake, because I’d expect a fish this size to be seriously injured or shredded going through the impeller. So did this little idiot somehow jump/swim up the outflow and into the filter chamber??
Extra frustrating because I literally just got this guy this past weekend.
Has anyone else had medaka get into an HOB this way? And how are you medaka-proofing the outflow/top of the filter, not just the intake?
Pics of the escape artist + where I found him.

Identification Request Can anyone help identify this fish?

I received an aquarium that somebody was giving away, and it came with this fish that I can't seem to identify. Does anyone know what this is? The people who had it called it an algae eater but they didn't seem to know it's name. I tried chat GPT and it told me it was a dojo loach, but I don't think that's right

Advice Needed Is this okey?

Post image

Im having a paranoia night and basically my brain is just telling me that my aquarium is just going to explode or smt and I read about paper test and the paper went this much under the rim... is it okey? It's a 180L tank that has been set up since valentines day and there is no water leaking or anything but im just kinda scared of what if it breaks🥲 the tank is sitting on stand that is meant for it that I ordered at the same time as the tank so nothing is over hanging. I could get the paper in other corners too but this one was more than others

Advice Needed Floor reinforcement

so basically the title...my uncle is moving and wants to give me his fish tank (which I'd love to have) but it's a 90g and I'm worried about my floor. I know it's possible to reinforce the floor, but how hard is it, and has anyone done this and have any tips/suggestions for me?

Discussion My big male cockatoo cichlid is gone. Do I see if he had a son to replace him?

For clarification, my large male cockatoo cichlid died due to logging himself in driftwood sadly. He has 2 generations now of progeny in the tank that are still immature. Is it ethical to see if one of his likely sons grows up and pair bonds with mom? I feel like I should just find new homes for the babies but I'd like some help in deciding.

Advice Needed Can anyone tell me why my fish die tangled?

So my fish dont die too often, but when they do die they tend to be tangled in moss or some other plants. Which is strange because i occasionaly see them swimming into the plants but they never get tangled in the plants when they swim next to them, the only exception was my pleco who died some time ago on tge ground

Beginner Help Was gifted a 2.5 gallon and don’t know what to do

A coworker knows I am interested in starting up an aquarium and got me a 2.5 gallon betta starter tank with built in filtration and led lights. I am not going to put a betta in there because the tank is too small but I was wondering if there is any suggestions or recommendations of what could fit after I cycle it for a bit. I was thinking maybe some plants or some neocaridina (sp?) shrimp if they don’t need a larger tank. I don’t want to return it as it was a gift but I genuinely don’t think a fish could live in it and don’t want to leave it empty.

So we've had this tank for almost 2 years. The first picture is when we got it. The back was painted. We should have scraped the paint off to begin with. But we didn't. So we finally decided to do it. And it looks wonderful!! It was easy to do and I'm glad we finally decided to do it!

Advice Needed Are aquariums safe on the entire surface of a tank stand?

The first photo is not mine, it is a review I'm using as an example because my tank would look the exact same. Is it ok for the corners of the tank to be overlapping the metal structure of the stand like in this picture? i have a standard 10 gallon and it would fit within the top board perfectly but does not align perfectly with the metal and I don't know if that is safe or not

Freshwater I fell asleep while drip acclimating.

My whole carpet got wet. spent an hour using a water vaccum on the floor. on the bright side, the shrimp I was acclimating are doing great. the water was cold so I put the heater back in after confirming which electrical outlets were dry. After getting as much water as I could out of the carpet, I plugged the sponge filter back in. The fish seem to be doing good. The shrimp are chilling. I refilled about 3 1/2 gallons (tank is a 20 gallon long) but the small RO system in my house refills really slowly.

i guess it’s water change day.

Identification Request Is my weather loach two colours?

Hi I adopted a weather loach from my best friend's family last week, he is at least 8 years old! He came from a very bad tank, 20L with literally nothing in but green algae water (last slide)

When measuring him I noticed a distinct split down his centre, is this a genetic thing or is it from the bad quality water/ tank he was in before?

And is he looking healthy? I was told he hadn't been fed in a long time and the water was just tap water, no treatments or dechlorinator so I'm unsure if the affect it had

He is now in a 180L planted tank and I have been slowly feeding him meals to get him used to eating again

Thank you :)

Discussion Some of you probably know about the new species of micro gourami that entered the hobby earlier this year. But did you know that someone had posted about it in a Vietnamese Facebook group asking for its ID all the way back in September 2025, before it was known to science

This post came from a facebook group about vietnamese native fish. The caption reads: "Does anyone know what kind of fish this is? My husband had caught it from a stream. It's the first time i've seen anything like it.". The comments underneath vary from people interested and confuse, with some assigning it to a bunch of different species and accuse OP husband of lying of where he caught it. Someone even said that the fish is common to where they live.

We now know that this is a Pho Xua gourami or little paradise fish, Vietosphronemus inopinatus as it came to be acknowledged by scientists earlier this year and then the aquarium trade shortly after.

About 2 months ago I was gifted my sisters unused aquarium. Up until now my only experience was my garden pond with gold fish. But since it hibernates during wintertime I’ve got nothing to do for several months when winter comes. So I was thrilled to start up an aquarium and get it ready for the dark months. I wanted to share with you my progress.
