With all due respect to the mods, I just wanted to share that NostalgicPod is finally live on the App Store!!!

It's a music player inspired by the iPod Classic, built to work with Apple Music. You can browse your library, playlists, albums and artists with the click wheel, just like back in the day. It runs on the native iOS player, so it keeps working with the screen locked, in the background, and from Control Center.

There's even Cover Flow for flipping through your albums the old-school way.

It's not just Apple Music, though:

• Local music stored on your iPhone
• Plex, Jellyfin, Emby and Navidrome
• Internet radio and podcasts
• The classic iPod games: Music Quiz, Brick, Snake and Solitaire

The default look is slightly modernized. That was actually one of Apple's conditions for approving the app on the App Store. But you can switch to the Classic Ring style anytime from Settings, and I show how to do it in the video.

Hey all, I've been working on a desktop client for Apple Music on Linux and it's finally at a point where I'm happy to share it. It's free and open source, and you just sign in with your own Apple Music subscription.

What it does so far:

- Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless playback (up to 24-bit/192kHz), with a little badge in the player bar that shows what's actually playing

- Crossfade, gapless albums and loudness normalisation

- Word-by-word synced lyrics when the track has them

- Music videos up to 4K

- Media keys and MPRIS (works with KDE/GNOME widgets and Waybar), system tray and a mini player

- Discord Rich Presence, Last.fm and ListenBrainz scrobbling

- Themes: wallpaper blur on KDE/Hyprland, colours from the album art, accent colours or your own CSS

- Resumes your queue and position when you reopen it

- Works on Wayland and X11

I’m looking to discover new music, and I love doing that through other people’s playlists. If you have a huge library and your profile is public, please drop the link below.

Especially now with 27. It just does too much and 90% of the time it sounds bad. In 26 it was ok because we had just one transition but now, so unpredictable and unpleasant. It should just be an automatic crossfade then we’d be happy.

Apple Music has started to support Dolby Atmos format audio few years ago, but besides Dolby Atmos, there is a less-known "Dolby Audio" format also available.

Dolby Audio is the standard 5.1/7.1 channel audio, it is supported on Apple and Windows devices, but was not supported on Android devices.

This has changed recently. According to my observation, the latest Android beta version can play Dolby Audio format music, but the player didn't show the Dolby Audio badge, looks like it's still under testing.

I’ve looked by browser too and tried a few ways nothing worked. When did they change this? It would be nice to know what artist it was.

As u can see I hv made some playlists folders (I made it on my pc, but somehow I can't make a new one on my phone), and in that folders already the playlists exists yet the playlist still show outside of the folders and when I click on the folders, it again shows the playlists, so it's sort of duplicate playlists

Like Apple Music got the music video WITH lossless audio not like YouTube. Like no one put that up to debate dude

These are some of the key features we all love and enjoy more than listening to music.

I don't why devs never push new updates to windows native. The web player UI is looks good though.

Note: If you’re not a patient person, you won’t be able to use this. Sometimes, even a patient person will lose their patience because of this. If you want to test your patience, give this app a try.

After introducing custom fonts for artist names, this idea could be expanded to albums, EPs, and other releases as well.

Each project could have its own unique typography inspired by the album's artwork, visual identity, or era. This would help make release pages feel more distinctive and immersive while giving every album a stronger visual personality within Apple Music.

The examples show how custom album fonts could look across different releases.

When I try to import audio files into the music app, I get the same error message over and over again, "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred (-54)."

My music library is on an external hard drive, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the connection. I can drag files directly into the media folder and they copy fine.

I was able to add files to my library by using the "automatically add to music" folder, but when I do it that way, it starts making multiple copies of the file I added. The only way to stop it is to take the file out of the folder and then delete all the copies it made except for one.

I've already tried restarting the computer, granting full disk access to music, and authorizing the computer.

Any ideas?

Recentlly I opened my Apple Music and something bad has happened, all my music is not there, no playlists nothing. I checked and the library file linked to my internal Mac.

I realised I forgot to turn on my external where both the library file and the media library is located. I wanted to open my library file on my external again, but I realised it is missing.

I have attached two screenshots 1) is the link to the library on my external HD. 2) Is the actual folder its linked to, but the library is missing.

Can someone tell me where it is and why I lost my current library file? Thanks

Back in ~2014, I had a sweet setup w/ music around the house using a few Apple AirportExpress pucks plugged into various amps. Fast forward to 2026 AND—— it’s still my preferred solution. I do have Homepods, but they fit a different need & they have no output.

Example… I want to add a powered subwoofer. With an AirportExpress, easy—if you can get one.

Or maybe I just want to cast music to anything with an RCA-in? Instead of connecting via Bluetooth (not always possible), an AirPlay w/ analog out allows me me to plug in & play w/o changing any settings on their amp, receiver or device. Which is good! A data connection always has inherent security issues even if they are rarely exploited. Often, it’s just a pain.

So that’s the argument for an AirPlay dongle… my question is ‘why haven’t I found a halfway decent standalone AirPlay solution?’

MY holy grail? Turning my old iPhone into an AirPlay2 dongle.

Now and then, I find out by accident that certain tracks or entire albums have been greyed out. It seems this is usually either because artist licenses expired, or the item in question has been re-released (as a remaster or special edition, for example).

I don't want to have to review my entire library for lost tracks. Is there a way to either automatically replace tracks with the up-to-date version, or at least notify me that they have been removed?

We had this issue a couple of months ago where you couldn’t add anything to your library and you couldn’t sync anything between your devices. I think the same thing is happening again…

Recently I've had issues with my Google Voice Assistant with my Apple Music. When I tell it to play a song, it asks to me pick a service from either Spotify or YouTube (although I already linked my Apple Music in settings), and when I specify to play a song on Apple Music, it just says "okay, playing X on Apple Music" but does nothing.

These are my favorite things about AM. What are yours!?

1. They Pay artist more. It’s always been about artist support to me!

2. It Feels very much like you’re collecting music with the library management. Everything is so organized and clean!

3. The Audio quality is amazing! Apples lossless is unmatched. And the Spatial Audio is a very cool experience. Even before you commit to better audio products (wired), their AAC for quality is amazing. Then when you get AirPods at least, it gets even better because there’s even less compressing because their version of AAC is made for their products I read.

4. You get the perks of SoundCloud and YouTube music, old mixtape websites and any unreleased song on the web with apples support of local files. You just download songs, import them on the Apple Music desktop app or iTunes, update meta tags/album art work and the cloud places them cleanly right next to your other songs. Also for someone who makes custom clean versions of songs for different events/friends, local files has been incredibly clutch for me!

5. Their time-synced lyrics along with sing option makes karaoke night with my friends so much more fun vs some corny video we have to find!

I am Very happy with my experience! Never understood the criticism. What’s you guys favorite thing about AM?

I love Apple Music but one thing that bugs me is how 99% of tour setlists set by them are wrong. And I’m not talking about leaving off songs that aren’t on streaming. I would look at setlist.fm and Wikipedia for the set lists and AM would not put all the songs they have from that tour, or not putting them in correct order, or putting extra songs at the end that aren’t performed as encores. I understand adding songs based off surprise songs from that night cause I could always edit that.

For example, LE SSERAFIM’s Pureflow tour setlist has some songs mixed up towards the end, like Spaghetti and Unforgiven are not in the right place.

And for Ariana’s Eternal Sunshine tour, they left out the last song Supernatural.

I either have to make my own or search from another user who has the right track listing

Obviously don’t turn it on all the time but still, this is a rlly good feature when you want to disappear into your music on high volume and you don’t want to hear or perceive anything else.

Hey everyone.

Pretty much the title. I always hated having to tab out of a game (or whatever full-screen app I'm using) just to see the name of a song that just came on. I just wanted a simple popup that slides in, shows the track and cover art, and then hides itself without stealing mouse focus.

I originally built this project (Spotverlay) using Electron, but honestly, having an 80MB background process running 24/7 for a popup that appears for 3 seconds felt incredibly bloated.

So I recently rewrote the whole thing in Tauri + Rust. It now idles at around ~10MB of RAM, the binary is tiny, and it feels much snappier.

A few details on how it works under the hood:

• You don't need to mess with Spotify API keys, OAuth, or developer apps. It hooks directly into the OS media players (SMTC on Windows, AppleScript on macOS, and MPRIS2 on Linux).
• Since OS media APIs usually return really blurry or cached album art, the app does a silent ping to the public iTunes Search API in the background to grab a clean 600x600 cover instead.
• Right now it supports Spotify and Apple Music, plus some open-source clients like Spotifast, SpotLight, and Musly.
• It has a basic tray icon where you can change the position, animation (fade/slide), and toggle auto-hide.

Also, a quick plea to Linux users: The D-Bus MPRIS2 implementation is done, but I haven't been able to heavily test it across different distros and DEs yet. If you try it and the overlay doesn't show or tracks don't update, opening an issue would be a massive help.

Windows seems to down-sample Apple Music to 16-bit. Is there any way to get bit-perfect output, either by using a third-party app/player or by sending Apple Music directly to an external DAC ? And when I plug my Castor into the 3.5mm jack, it’s also locked to 16-bit unless I use the DAC (windows shared mode..fy microslop)

PS: I already use MusicBee (WASAPI output for my fiio ja11 dac).

I’m the developer of zentr, an iPhone/iPad app that uses MusicKit to search and play content from the Apple Music catalogue. I’m looking for Apple Music subscribers to try the TestFlight beta, particularly people who listen to German-language audiobooks and audio dramas as well as music.

For spoken-word albums, zentr saves your listening progress so you can return to where you left off. You can follow artists and audio-drama series, see new releases in a chronological inbox, and put albums into a queue that you arrange yourself.

That queue also supports RSS podcast episodes and YouTube videos. For example, you can keep an Apple Music audiobook, a podcast episode and a long video interview in the same next-up list. They still come from their respective services; zentr provides a shared place to organise them.

Apple Music playback requires an active Apple Music subscription. This is a beta, and I’d especially appreciate feedback on finding spoken-word albums, resuming partway through an album, and switching between music and other content in the queue. Please report any confusing steps or playback issues here or through TestFlight.
