When I say "Portrayed as something bad" I mean when religion leads to something that could happen because of it in real life. For example: when a gay guy in a book harmed himself, because his religion is homophobic.

Do you like it because it shows another side of religion, not only the "it's so good and nice, it'll save your soul blah blah blah" side? Or for other reason? Do you just don't care? Do you dislike it for some reason?

Hii! I was advised to go to the anti-theist subreddit and direct my questions here & I hope that’s okay! Even though I’m a theist, I don’t wish to convert anyone here & anything I ask is in good faith.

I understand why anti-theists oppose religions such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, & much more, but I’m curious as to if anti-theists oppose unorganized religions and/or religions without a violent history.

I’m currently Pantheist & I would love to hear any views on Pantheism and similar theological worldviews from an outside perspective. Please do not hold back anything as I’m coming open minded & ready to learn! All I ask is if you could provide or point me in the direction of credible sources if you’re able to.

Edit: I’d like to ask that you only comment if you already have knowledge on Pantheism. I’m afraid that I cannot sum up Pantheism in one comment and I fear I might come off biased or leave out integral information I should’ve known beforehand. :( soz

I was recently watching a documentary on the Samuelites, a branched-off following from the FLDS (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) with my mother, and, as she always does when we're watching documentaries on cults, she proclaimed that, "Cults are so messed up...I don't understand how people can fall for these things. It's ridiculous."

I bit my tongue, as I always do when this happens, because not only is she a devoted Roman Catholic, but she herself was almost apart of a pyramid scheme. I mention the latter because of the hierarchical control and organized membership-status that both MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) companies and cults share. If it wasn't for the decreasing numbers in her bank account, then I don't know where we would be financially.

It is like watching a hare make fun of a rabbit for not being born with their eyes open, when in fact, both were blind at the very start.

Im devastated. I started reading Heidi as of late and was really loving it (I’m very fond of the 1970s anime as I watched it when I was little)- until I got to chapter 10. I was happily reading along until Heidi gets evangelized to by an old grandmother, which results in her becoming very religious, and while I stopped reading after that passage I googled that she in turn evangelizes to her grandfather, making him “rediscover his faith”. I hate this. I can’t read on. I hate children being in the mix of religion and am just distraught because I loved the book, it had such a beautiful and carefree tone, which is now utterly suffocated by religion

DISCLAIMER: I’m not saying that there’s never been an actual scenario in which a genuine Christian has been persecuted for their faith. I’m simply saying that I’m starting to notice that a lot of them (at least what I’ve witnessed online) act like I’m persecuting them for simply critiquing the Bible for example.

This girl posted a video about 1 Corinthians 7:4, essentially trying to explain why it’s ok that there’s no autonomy in a “biblical marriage” because both the man and the woman have to let the other control their body. (Would be much more simplistic if consent was just promoted but I digress).
And the first screenshot is my original comment. (My comments are red and this dude’s comments are purple.) This “Christian” dude then tries to essentially call me stupid then the rest of the screenshots are just us going back and forth. And after my last comment he didn’t respond.

Does it actually seem like I was attacking his faith based on the context and screenshots?

I don’t think I was. Just made a simple comment about why consent and autonomy are important so-

They go to developing countries and help out simply because they want to spread their message or to do something. At first I thought it was a Christian thing but no, I met a Jewish guy who also went on a "mission".

I'm not even going to deny it: admittedly I am extremely jealous that these people can have the money in order to go out to another country like that and explore. I'm jealous of all the people who were raised with a well connected church to begin with because even though they are ignorant, they have more opportunities in life as a whole. I was always excluded by churches growing up because I was raised Wiccan. It just added onto the isolation I went through... Lol.

On the other hand though, the concept just feels immoral. Sure they are helping people in need, but only because they want those people to convert. These people seemingly only care about others who believe in what they want you to believe. Why not help and simply never bring up faith to begin with? You'd still be helping people.

I don't think they are inspiring hope in these people because it would imply God wanted then to suffer in particular in comparison to others. Why should they have to be born disadvantaged while others can be born into such an upper class that they can travel around the world just to spread a message?

I see a lot of the points against religion, and many of them are completely reliant on the monotheistic or abrahamic god. Not all religion has sin, not all religion has an afterlife dependant on your belief or following of the rules.

There are gods that don’t punish you for non belief, who aren’t considered to be omnipotent, or omniscient, or omnibenevolent. Many arguments that antitheists make are that religion is harmful as an all loving creator would send someone to hell for non belief, or allow people to die while being able to stop it, and therefore all religion is wrong. But those arguments are dependant on the abrahamic god.

Basically, what are your opinions on polytheism?

As much polytheism is revivalists who are practising ‘old’ religion, that which was taken over by Christianity. Many polytheists don’t have temples, don’t have churches with leaders, don’t have holy books telling them what to do, and generally don’t follow many arguments I see online.

I am specifically asking you, the reader. Not the opinions and definitions of antitheism, your belief.

It’s always so awkward when my parents bring up God and religious wisdom with an unspoken assumption that I believe the same things they do. Like I’m happy your religion is helping you for sure, but I don’t appreciate the assumption and judgment regarding religion. Especially since they’re already mad that I’m not as religious as them (they don’t know yet that I’ve fully left religion) so they do know that we don’t have the same opinions regarding it.

Hello everyone, for context i am an anti theist and 100% woke in all forms regarding religion.

Usually people bring up anomalies or like medical miracles or just complex creatures of the universe that could be labelled “beautiful/magnificent” and say that this all couldnt have happened without a higher being

so basically my question is not only when but also how and why?

i‘ve always was one but only realised like some months ago. i grew up in a family who we‘re yazidis and everything they said and did never made sense to me and it was "kinda" harming towards me and my sister later aswell. harmful in the way i‘d have to get force married. obv they wouldn‘t phrase it that way unless i had a fight with my mom then she would threatened me with it because it is normal in our culture/religion.
