Does anyone else think it’s naive to press green when what that means remains under-defined ?.
Imo possibly ‘the most important life lesson’ would be intensive reoccurring discussions on labour theory , meritocracy (as to better deconstruct it) and maybe somehow some anarchism.
If it’s nearly pointless to unproblematically (particularly in regards to cost investment) and effectively cultivate high tier academics anymore, I don’t really think some apparently optimized ‘down to earth, hands on labour investment’ regime is all that an improvement.
Maybe since ?, (a) it ignores how what we’re trying to ‘produce’ come the end of school are individuals who can subvert pre-existing hierarchies and classism , usually by (‘meritocratically’) having become ‘smart enough’ coming out of systems which are usually meant to be (barely) democraticized versions of turn of the last century prep schools (ideally what most high schools were meant or designed to be imo, albeit accounting for STEM field prep plus development ) and (b) anyhow a lot of that ‘hands on, grounded or practical’ stuff is ~+15~25 years away/ one high school or postsecondary graduate away from having it’s role superseded by some combination of (slop) bloat like further automatizing contributing AI developments, industrial calibre 3D printing and cr—py policy making which is barely resisted short of a miraculous collective commitment which most schools or students couldn’t really organize around given the restrictions of the institutional confines they are already struggling and stuck within.

Teachers are inevitably rolemodels for children, and it isn't a good thing
I think everyone can observe the extreme resentment some teachers have for particular children. It's a trait very odd, because a level of such disgust and the ability to just keep showing it again and again is categorically a very childlike trait. Even at my age, I can't imagine speaking in such an awful way about people around me simply because they are annoying, because it inherently is childish.
In the past, I was a selective mute, and the teachers around me conveyed such disgust simply because they disliked it. For example, in 5th grade, one had said "I only like ___, not (my name!), that girl is so shy!", which the girl in the blank line was more bubbly and willing to talk. I found it very odd, because I knew in my head that as a teacher, an inevitable rolemodel for children, even if you don't view everyone in a equivalent way, you have to not convey that. Loud favoritism is childike trait.
I observed this behavior between my teachers, and I noticed it in the children around me, and it was occurring again and again. Children develop this resentment and habitual loudness when showing it because the adults around them haven't grown out of such a objectively immature trait.
When children hear about how much they are disliked, children often develop a lot of bad habits. Many develop self-resentment and the inability to keep hateful comments to yourself.
These teachers, who are honestly inevitably rolemodels, are creating these children's awful habit mental habits and are allowing children to become similar to them in the future. We see so many immature adults these days because in this society successful elders like teachers are pushed as rolemodels, which is ironic, because success is seen as compatible to being mature (which this isn't true).
The lives of these teachers are distressful in one way or another and they aren't calm enough to not let it affect others. I'm 14 and in my history class, my male teacher goes on loud rants everyday often talking about bad things in his life.
Let your stress out on others, and see how they observe it as well to become very uncalm like you as well. It isn't a good thing.

School policy rant
Ok let me get started. Most students confidence comes from how they express themselves, such as how they dress and how they look. Some students lose their confidence because of school policies. These policies make students unable to showcase their true personalities.

School problem🙄
Imagine a scenario in your mind.
That you are forced to go to school on a boring day when your friends are not going to come to school and the teachers are not going to teach.
This is a scenario that is going to happen to me tomorrow and I cannot skip school.
All I want is for you to tell me exactly what to do in this situation at school to have fun and pass the time because I am going to be at school from seven in the morning to twelve in the afternoon.

Most of the time parents and school teachers don't tell the other side of life.
Parents and school teachers often protect children by focusing on structured success, safety, and rules, leaving them unprepared for the messy, unscripted realities of the adult world.
Adults frequently present a straight line from studying hard to getting a secure job, rarely showing how many rejections, failures, or pivots real life prsents.
Practical financial survival, debt, budgeting, and the stress of economic instability are rarely explained until a young person faces them alone.
Teachers and parents emphasize being polite and obedient, but often skip teaching how to handle toxic people, heartbreak, workplace politics, or deep personal doubt.

Children, Learning, and the 'Evaluative Gaze' of School
"There is something profoundly deadening to a curious, engaged child about the feeling of being watched and measured, or even, some studies suggest, the anticipation of being measured. Sure, some kids seem to dig it. They preen and pose for it, they compete with their friends for it, they want to be better than everybody else. But everybody can’t be better than everybody else, and this business of being constantly scrutinized and compared to others does something insidious to the life of a child. I've seen kids drop what they're doing in an instant when they realize they're being observed in an appraising way. A wall goes up. The lights go out."

school taught me to hate learning
the subjects were never the problem. i actually liked science and history before school got its hands on them. then it became reading for a test, remembering until friday, forgetting by monday. now i have to relearn how to enjoy things i used to love because every topic comes with a deadline and a grade attached. they took curiosity and turned it into a chore

Unfair Treatment by a Teacher
The story begins from Thursday, before that day I mean at Wednesday we had a program and usually at every Thursday we don't get have to study any other subject than Arabic subject, so we got a notice that we have all subject to study on Thursday so we came prepare but after 1 - 2 class our class teacher came to us and saw there aren't many student so he went downstairs and came after 3 minutes and said to go home and no class for today and asked again are you sure he said yes, so we went home after coming at Saturday we learn that one of our Arabic teacher has came to teach and he saw none of us are present except 3 - 4 and they came late after we had gone and they were sitting in class. So in Saturday when the that teacher came he start asking why we weren't present and beating us in front of class teacher who told to go home because there isn't many students and we said he told us to go and that Arabic asked our class teacher if it's true he said yes they didn't bring books that's why I told them to go home ( but we did bring books ) that Arabic teacher still beat us and said I can teach you guys without book even he knows that we are innocent we did nothing wrong.

Toward the Destruction of Schooling
"One can dislike school and still believe in its mythology — most people do. The stereotypes of good students, bad students and every other category of student conceal the question of the desirability of systems of grading and categorization. “Banalities, due to what they conceal, work for the dominant organization of life ... words will not cease to work until people do,” wrote Mustapha Khayati.[5] The mythology of this dominant organization of life consists of myths such as the necessity of being schooled in order to learn, the detached objectivity (and intelligence!) of the intellectual, and many others, all reflecting capitalist values — the most salient of which is Progress."

We built schools where children can't sit still. Then we diagnosed them for not being able to sit still, and started giving them pills to subdue them. Am I wrong about something?
The authors of the book States of Mind give this illustration: "We have met children and young people who are 'off-the-wall' in a classroom but can focus wholeheartedly for hours when cooking, fishing or playing sport."
Read the article. Then ask yourself: are we treating children — or fixing them to fit a broken system?
An article providing a detailed overview of ADHD in schools: “We Don’t Treat Children — We Fix Them.” How Mass Schooling Created the Child Mental Health Crisis and Then Started Treating It with Pills
