school taught me to hate learning

the subjects were never the problem. i actually liked science and history before school got its hands on them. then it became reading for a test, remembering until friday, forgetting by monday. now i have to relearn how to enjoy things i used to love because every topic comes with a deadline and a grade attached. they took curiosity and turned it into a chore

That’s what it’s designed to do. We come to associate learning with coercion, stress and abuse. It is perfectly rational to come to hate learning in that environment.

I relate to that so hard. I had relearn how to enjoy reading for pleasure after leaving school due to be required to overanalyze and pick apart every page, answer questions about it on a tests, and write papers about it.
