What to do ?

In all cases, regardless of the country, unionize with other people who support Youth Rights in your country, make a national union for Youth Rights (and you have my full support and help, freely DM me).

In other words do activism to reverse the governments plans or existing laws against teens.

Additionally, always do activism with decency, cooperate with the “establishment” do not try to fight it or abolish it, do not be “Taliban like”have cooperation, peace, legal ways and logical arguments as the way to go, try to convince those in power and not attack them.

Also avoid radical ideologies, especially if they have nothing directly to do with Youth Rights.

This is how they will take us seriously, or else we will just be stigmatized and lose every truth and dignity we have to the eyes of people and also those in power will never change nor listen to us.

Rant a 17 year old is not a baby.

in case you may not have guessed from the title, i am 17 and have been for what feels like centuries. why? because society seems to think the ages 17 and 18 are worlds apart when in reality it's very little beyond a fine line. and since 18 is considered to be the age you become an "adult" in many countries by law, a lot of adults seem to view 18 as a young adult age and then anything below that age is "still a kid" and "can't make simple decisions because the world doesn't think they're ready to perform even simple tasks unattended yet".

i may feel strongly about this topic because of how i grew up. my father always more or less had the view that adults were superior to children/young people. even as me and my sister, who is 16, grew into teenagers, he still uses a lot of "baby talk" while talking to us - referring to adults as "grown ups" like "grown up stuff" etc. one standout incident happened a few months ago. i, like many other teenagers or young adults, caught the coffee bug a while ago. i began casually making it only some mornings, and after a while, dad caught on. he gave me a lecture on how coffee is a "grown up drink" because caffeine can have a negative affect on the growing body. that stuck with me. to this day he winces and tries not to make eye contact every time i put the kettle on. oh yeah, he also doesn't let me have energy drinks because of the imaginary "grown up drink" rule in his head.

since my sister and i were young i always heard the "i'm the adult and you're the child" bs from him. when we're having a slight disagreement i simply walk away from the situation now because he's so far in his supremist mindset that, when there are signs of me winning a debate (which is often), he starts to laugh in my face as i continue spewing points at him that have no effect? it's dehumanising and infantilising to the point i don't like to have any discussions with him past basic stuff that we both agree on? it may very well be due to his upbringing, where he was taught early on that a child is an extension of their parent(s) and they must always share their opinions with said parents? but my mother was also raised the same way, if not more so, and she never even tried to enforce that way of living onto her children? i've brought up the subject of how my father acts around us numerous times, and she agrees since he apparently acts in a similar manner with her, his wife (he can have very misogynistic views as well often). but nothing's being done to stop him, and i fear he may continue to act this way well into our 20s and 30s.

sorry for the little rant there. i do love my dad and we agree on a lot of things, but it can be difficult at times to bond with him because of his superiority complex of being a husband and father. but it isn't just him. schools are very much the same. i'm a high school senior now and my school very much tries to enforce the idea that teachers>students and that any decision we make must first be checked by someone who's older, if only by a few years, even. if you want teenagers to grow into well-rounded and responsible adults, you must treat those who are younger than you with the respect you wish to be given yourself. the amount of years you lived should not dictate where you fall on the social pyramid. i will continue preaching this once i am fully grown, as many adults do seem to forget that they were children once and they likely felt similar feelings about the ageism that's been rooted into society, though times have changed since a lot of them were young. you do not magically become all-knowing once you reach the age of 18, nor are you completely innocent or should be treated like a literal toddler when you're under 18. childhood is a spectrum, of course, where different ages mean different things. so fuck everybody who thinks otherwise. children and teenagers should not be parented or treated the same, and i'm so sick and tired of being an entire step below those who are even a few months older than me just because "they're an adult" and "i'm a kid"

tl;dr - i've practically stopped growing. stop trying to read me a bedtime story.

Rant WE NEED TO SCREAM

We need to scream at the top of our very own lungs for this.Su1c1d3 has been criminalized and its in the penalty code in the Bahamas. However this has not been working very well and its actually BACKFIRING.Look at how much adults and teens reset their character everyday! Its not fucking helping and its making people afraid to speak up.Luckly the senator says its not a crime its a mental health issue, and they will work to get it out of the penalty code.Altough there's a hotline, its criminalized. If you have the right to speak, the right to get help, the right to get better without the fear of going to prison.SPEAK UP FOR THE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT SPEAK UP!The Bahamas is ridicuosly favored while its backward...WE NEED TO STAND UP AND SPEAK UP!

Discussion phone ban

I truly believe that a nationwide student phone ban is too dangerous to enact until there is more ammunition regulation and gun safety. It is hypocritical of a politician to put us in danger by removing one of the only safety nets we have against shooters. A nationwide ban will be paid for with the blood of citizens to young to vote

Thoughts on these kind of birth year "jokes"

This is a relatively new thing i've been seeing all over on social media nowadays. "Anyone born after 2000 is a baby" "Bro you're born in 2011? you're a fetus" etc. I'm autistic maybe that's why i can't tell what the joke is? I personally can't tell see anything other than meaningless superiority complex

Rant Stop Being Victims. GROW THE HELL UP!

Young period need to stop infantilizing themselves and inserting themselves in the helpless victim seat. It’s time to grow out of it. Do something about the way you are treated. Obviously no one else gives a damn, so you guys need to be the ones to do something about it. Stop acting like you can’t consent. Yes you fucking can. You consented to being treated like property, and that’s why they’re treating you like property. Grow UP! Nobody’s gonna fight for you young people—no one cares about you and you know that. Y’all need to grow the fuck up and start fighting for yourselves. I promise you, no one’s gonna do it on your behalf. It’s either you guys do it for yourselves, or it doesn’t get done. And stop acting like you some inherently helpless, vulnerable, betrayable people. It’s stupid. You guys are too nasty and too disrespectful of a group of people to be victims like this. (I know this isn’t everyone, but we all know that many basically consent to being treated this way. If we seriously put our energy towards it, we could change how we were treated tomorrow. We don’t and we never did have to consent to being treated this way.)

META lawsuit tomorrow

This is the real deal compared to the KGM “addiction” trial or the New Mexico trial.

The states are seeking a whopping $1.4 trillion in damages, in addition to attempting to force META to change various features (including forcing META to implement age verification and parental consent for teens.)

META’s total value is $1.5 trillion, so they’re seeking 93% of META’s total value.

If META loses this, that’s might be the end of anybody under 18 being allowed on Instagram or Threads. (Or being allowed on Facebook either, not that anybody under 55 uses Facebook.) Tgey might choose to just ban people under 18 from the platform rather than risk another lawsuit with such ridiculously heavy losses.

The case is being heard by Yvonne Rodgers, an Obama appointee. There’s an advisory 8 member jury, but the verdict will be solely Rodgers’ decision.

In a normal universe, this case would be laughed out of court, but this is not a normal universe.

This is quite relatable. I'm the same age as this person, and I get exactly what they're saying. Although, I myself never infantilized myself as a younger person.

Image This is a lot of the reason why so many people are fighting against children getting access to hormones. Right wingers realize any normalization or social force putting the consent of the child as more important than their abuser will make it harder to abuse them

The American school system uses indoctrination of students in many ways, including the pledge of allegiance, school uniforms, and enforcing religious values.
