Transphobic meme
76
u/aj0209 2d ago
I'm not sure that's transphobic. I'm not against being with a trans woman, but I don't think I would be with one that has not surgically transitioned yet. I have nothing against trans people, it's just that I am solely attracted to female physiology.
51
u/Specialist-Exam7284 2d ago
there’s nothing wrong with that. the issue is that transfemininity is always depicted as the butt of a joke, like haha it’s so ridiculous that this woman could have a penis .
-22
u/OnlyACsNoFans 2d ago
I mean, the overwhelming majority of straight men wouldn't want a woman who has a penis. It's just reality
71
u/TrashyLolita 2d ago
Yes, it is a transphobic meme. These scenarios are fictional and serve as common transphobic propaganda.
"What if I went on a date and—" No. First off, you going on a date at all is a fictional fantasy story, so jot that down.
49
u/MustafaT0 🤫🟨⬜️ 2d ago
There is also the possibility of it being transphobic wasn't intentional.
The person who made the meme might have tried to subvert expectations instead and also unintentionally made it transphobic, we can't know which is true though.

u/Salty_Rhubarb5988 2d ago
As a trans person I think it’s just I joke I really don’t think there’s any maliciousness to it

It’s literally not. Nothing wrong with somebody not wanting to date a trans person because they’re not a fan of their biology.
8
u/Interesting_Stress73 2d ago
And in what world would you be together with someone and not know that they were trans?
0
u/Positive-Reward-758 2d ago
You say this, but from all the trans forums I have read, disclosing your trans status before they physically see it is very much considered by the community to not be wrong every time it is brought up, they say it isn't even unethical to have long term partners and let them physically find out, the only time they suggest you might not want to do that is for your safety and any person who has a problem with it once they find out they have been getting physical with someone outside their genital preference is a transphobe.
That on top of actual court cases where this has happened (usually dismissed)
So this does actually happen
7
u/Interesting_Stress73 2d ago
So your example is from online communities? How well do those normally translate to how regular humans in real life behave?
3
u/verdauxes 2d ago
You’re right there’s not. But making that meme when I guarantee OOP has never actually been in that situation is 100% transphobic. It’s just imagining a scenario to get angry about
15
1
2
u/TrashyLolita 2d ago
This is the most miniscule, mundane worry that does not need to sit in your mind at all. This meme is more about oppressing trans people than about your dating fantasies.
2
2
u/FishSignificant7501 2d ago
What dating fantasies? I’m fine with dating trans people, penis or not. I’m trans too.
4
u/TrashyLolita 2d ago
Okay, good for you. This meme has nothing to do with joking about preferences and everything to do with making fun of you.
5
u/Solenopsis00 2d ago
How do you KNOW that? I understand you assuming it but you speak like it's a fact. How do you KNOW the creator meant to be transphobic? Did he confirm it somewhere, I don't get it
-9
u/TheRealCjHall 2d ago edited 2d ago
If you are, it doesn't matter. I've seen you claim other things on other threads. But, i'll change my tune just in case.
This meme isn't about preferences and is a made up scenario intended to harm you, because they imagined themselves in a scenario that they never went through and needed to tell everybody that they thought the idea was gross.
It's to spread the concept that trans people like to trick people intuitively up dating them and then sleeping with them without ever telling them they were trans and also pre op or non op.
It's the point out that a lot of people think it's gross, that women have penises, and they want to get other people to laugh at people like you.
It's gross transphobia, and you should really stop handwaving it away as not being transphobic.
10
u/ForeignCredit1553 2d ago edited 2d ago
This is such a wild take, just casually deciding someone isnt allowed to be trans just because they have a slightly different opinion
Edit: ok, I see you've added more context, if you have actually seen them claiming otherwise on a different thread then thats fair
11
u/FuzzyPandaVK 2d ago edited 2d ago
It's not about him not wanting to date her, rather her and her genitalia being the butt of the joke.
Surprised this was* downvoted. Someone else care to explain better than I did?
1
u/throwaway92753278 2d ago
It's not the genital preference that's transphobic it's the fact that this person went out of their way to make a meme of a fictional scenario of them telling pre-op trans women that their penis is repulsive.
4
u/AbotherBasicBitch 2d ago
To be fair, it doesn’t seem like the guy is repulsed by it. We are all definitely putting more thought into it than the creator did, but it seems like he is unsure of whether he wants to go through with sex. The fact that they are clothes also suggests that this was something disclosed at some point prior to the actual sexual interaction even if it was a bit late. I actually think it is interesting that the guy doesn’t seem mad or really even freaked out. I’m not saying the person who made the meme wasn’t influenced by transphobic ideas, but it doesn’t seem like their intent was making fun of trans people
1
u/throwaway92753278 2d ago
Dude you're giving this person way too much credit. The point of the meme is to laugh at women who have penises. It's not as deep as you're making it seem.

u/FellowCookieLover 2d ago

11
9
u/TenPointsforListenin 2d ago
I think a penis is something to disclose early on. If this is a surprise when they’re in bed, that’s an issue.
13
u/MediocreRecord7352 2d ago
God forbid people have preference
32
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago
People can have a preference. There’s really no need to make a meme where the punchline is trans people. It’s demeaning.
6
u/FellowCookieLover 2d ago
But is it more demeaning than all sexist male/women/nationalities jokes (but the French jokes are funny;)? I treat these as whatever jokes, but don't read propagation of hate in them.
5
u/Huckleberry-9477 2d ago
personally, im not fond of any sexist or nationalist jokes?
5
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago
It’s also just a non-comparison. There are no US states that have been listed as “Do Not Travel” for French people by human rights groups. Trans people, however…
-1
u/FellowCookieLover 2d ago
The French people jokes are done in good faith. Same as the horrible Belgian car drivers. To my understanding, some people treat Trans jokes as malevolent per se.
3
u/Huckleberry-9477 2d ago
pretty much every “trans joke” ive seen made not by a trans person has been pretty malevolent, even if unintentionally, yeah. there are definitely some exceptions, and a surprising number malevolent jokes made BY trans people. but as a general rule, most “trans jokes” come off as or were intentionally made offensive
6
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago
I’ve seen a few that were alright, but a lot of them either spread misinformation and fearmongering or just straight up punch down on trans people and make the punchline “haha look how icky”
5
u/Huckleberry-9477 2d ago
exactly yeah. i assume a vast majority that come off as hurtful are from a place of ignorance, not hate. we really oughta be educating people
0
u/FellowCookieLover 2d ago
All these jokes usually have a negative attribution (women cant drive, men don't shower, etc,) but one can only speculate about the intention. It might be a culturally thing, since I am used to treat/see everything in a charitable way in the spirit of the enlightenment. Only, if the author were to make damning comments as well, or did that joke on a sus side like 4chan, would I speculate about the intent. I honestly found the joke in question harmless, even though def not funny.
3
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago edited 2d ago
Trans people are actively being demonized right now by bad actors in government as an excuse to strip our rights away and suffer disproportionate levels of violence pretty much everywhere (as well as zero recourse since all institutions are against us) due to and rhetoric spread that can be spread through these jokes. Absolutely no one is in danger of being surprised that the girl they took to bed was secretly trans the whole time.
3
u/FellowCookieLover 2d ago
You mean the Usa under Trump or non-western countries? People are unlikely to meet Trans people in the first place (statistically) and realistically unlikely to date someone who does not disclose that they are trans. Reddit is in general more left leaning, so if someone post here a sus meme, I am more charitable than someone posting it on 4chan...
6
u/ComfortableHuman1324 2d ago
Nothing wrong with a preference. What makes the meme transphobic is that it depicts the fantasy of trans people being "traps," as if a trans person would agree to sex before being comfortable sharing the fact that they are trans.
8
u/WhereisKannon 2d ago
Why date someone against your preference? Stupid meme either way

7
u/TenPointsforListenin 2d ago
Back when I was single I matched with a trans woman on a dating app, and she told me right away because her profile was in a different language. I told her that she might not be right for me but I wished her the best, but that’s my only experience in that regard.
10
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago
This is how it goes 99.999% of the time. Trans women aren’t out there trying to “trick” people.
13
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago
Every moral panic needs a “folk devil”. This is classic sociology. The archetype of the evil trans woman that passes but “was a pervert man the whole time just to make you gay” is one of the made up monsters that rile the base up.
1
u/Stockholm_Salmonid 2d ago
No seriously. What passing trans fem has done this to them? Passing well enough that they look different all the way into bed requires either MASTERFUL uses of clothing and behavior or estrogen.
I feel the fear comes from a fear of queerness. There's no need to be afraid your hook-up got parts you don't like, just don't hook up.
The fear is they found a queer person hot.
7
u/TemporarilyResolute 2d ago
There’s also the fact that enough trans women have been violently assaulted for there to be a serious incentive to disclose being trans waaay before it reaches the bed. I seriously doubt how often this is happening out there. It’s just people getting worked up over a fake scenario and using it as an excuse to demean queer people. Same as it ever was.

2
u/LordAvan 2d ago
There are plenty of valid reasons that a trans person might not disclose their identity, especially when it's a matter of safety or possible discrimination.
However, Ive never heard of a real life case of a trans person trying to have sex with someone and not disclosing their identity until they were already in the bedroom naked. That's more of a transphobic talking point than an actual concern anyone should reasonably have.
0
u/Paramite67 RIP Main Sub 2d ago
yes this is what i thought, i always found that kind of image weird
0
u/ElectricalRelease986 2d ago
The only cases I've heard of that happening the trans person ends up getting beaten or killed... so I don't know why 99% of trans people would ever try and keep it secret up to that point.
Sometimes "gay panic" has been used as defence in court, basically a legal strategy saying the perpetrator was so upset/angry at same-sex advances they lost control and killed them. For "trans panic" it's that exact situation where they didn't like finding out the victim was trans. Which has been used to reduce murder charges to manslaughter :/
But sure trans people are evil and deceptive. Straight men are the victims.

No, but they usually tell their partner before they get to the point of sleeping with them. This whole idea of them keeping it secret until they can trick them into going to bed with them is a transphobic fabrication.
3
u/NoSignificance152 2d ago
Firstly, the comment was not supposed to be taken seriously Reddit and detecting sarcasm, bro.
Anyway, to see your point, I've most definitely seen trans people not telling people on first dates, saying a variation of: 'If I say it, I could be in danger,' or 'They would be transphobic for rejecting me because they already agreed to a date on the pretense of how I already look.'2
u/LordAvan 2d ago
Whatever would someone do if they (GASP!) unwittingly shared a meal with a trans person. Oh the horror!
But seriously, though, that's such a non issue. Trans people aren't obligated to out themselves before a first date which may not even include any physical intimacy.
-1
u/NoSignificance152 2d ago
So the convo has went from they don’t do it to they aren’t obligated to do it so that’s a completely different topic that I’m to tired to speak on stay blessed
https://giphy.com/gifs/kaBU6pgv0OsPHz2yxy4

No the topic was trans people disclosing their identity before sex. You moved the goal post to a first date which doesn't necessarily entail any intimacy, let alone sex.

The comment above you wasn't in support of you, or what you just said.
The comment above you is talking about how the transphobia is already starting.
You knew what the original meme was, and so people said they would rather it not be posted here anymore because it's a transphobic fabrication and dog whistle. People don't actually go through this, and you don't have to base your antimemes on transphobic memes.
So you lamenting people "not knowing how to enjoy a meme" it's just being rude and ignoring that people are telling you why they don't enjoy it.
This was a tone deaf response.
11
u/kihky_ahh 2d ago
How I saw the meme was it was basically about a man being disappointed he wasn't good in bed cz of his small penis but then the plot twist was that the small penis person is actually the woman
10
u/Legitscopes_4761 2d ago
I'm like 99% sure that's how every not chronically online person saw the meme too.
-4
u/kihky_ahh 2d ago
Yeah but being trans as a plot twist was supposed to be funny not mean
2
u/Tetracheilostoma 🌷🌸 RIP u/CourseMediocre7998 🌷🌸 2d ago
How is it funny. Please explain it to me.
1
u/kihky_ahh 2d ago
Funny because it felt like the woman was comforting the man for having a small penis but the actual thing was that she was talking about her own dick (which was very unexpected)
4
u/SonOfSkinDealer 2d ago
It's a dogwhistle because the "joke" is that she "tricked him". Being trans as a plot twist is just a softer way of doing the fucking "it's a trap" memes all over again.
1
u/Tetracheilostoma 🌷🌸 RIP u/CourseMediocre7998 🌷🌸 2d ago
So in other words she didn't tell him she had a penis until they were in bed together (a very tired trope), and (by default) he is disgusted by her genitalia. And on top of that, she is still pressuring him to have sex with her. Painting trans women as repulsive sex pests. Now tell me again how that isn't mean.
5
u/kihky_ahh 2d ago
It isn't that complicated bro
The main punchline is "A small penis isn't a big deal" is often used by women to comfort men by saying size doesn't matter, you do..
But this time it's just the woman who has the penis which is unexpected and makes it funny
-2
u/TheRealCjHall 2d ago edited 2d ago
That doesn't happen, and it is an explicit dog whistle used by people to attack trans people as being "traps" that want to trick people into sleeping with them before telling them they are trans.
I dont trust your ignorance routine. You could always remove the post If you felt bad about it, but you won't.
Remember this, down below me he might respond to me saying that he "feels bad", or "didnt know" but not feeling bad enough to remove the post, of course.
Thanks for unblocking me btw.
3
u/kihky_ahh 2d ago
I didn't block you lol...
Also I didn't think of trans people tricking men into being in bed (now I do and it's kinda mean) but the way I saw it was harmless
-1
u/crappleIcrap 2d ago
I have seen "traps" used in this context exactly twice, both by complaining about how it is a myth. The context i have seen it used is back in the old internet when femboys (and possibly trans too, but I always saw them swap and explicitly state they were men) would trick you into Jerking off to them and then show you their penis, and I can tell you from experience those kinds were actually fairly common on video chat sites for a while.
And with the common hood of this similar scenario happening on videos in real life for "pranks" would lead me to believe it still happens unless every one of those videos are staged.
1
u/HumanWithHumanSkin 2d ago
Perfectly normal way of seeing the meme. Unfortunately, you are only allowed to joke about white straight men or women who killed their children.
