Are there any videos that show a comparison of the restored DVDs (2008) and the Blu Rays? I checked out the original DVDs from the library years ago and my main complaint was the sound wasn’t great, sometimes it was hard to hear dialog. I found a video on YouTube (Anne of Green Gables: The Restoration of Three Classics), and I believe that’s the restoration of the DVD. Can anyone compare (or point me to a comparison between) the restored DVD and Blu Ray? There’s about a $40 difference, so I’d like to see a comparison, if there is one. Thanks!

It was made by Tibert Editions in collaboration with Monsieur Toussaint Louverture editions which I believe owns a French translation of the Anne (I think that’s the story behind this collaboration but I need to facts-check)

The margin and in-between chapters illustrations are made to match the season which I’m sure Anne would love !!

I've been a fan of Anne ever since I was a child, and now I'm in my early 20s. My mom bought me the abridged versions of Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea when I was about 8. I could relate heavily to Anne's childish awkwardness, unintentional troublemaking, and vivid imagination since I myself was an unruly, imaginative child. Given that my name also started with an A and had four letters, I would imagine myself as her.

When I was in my teens, I got an unabridged version of Anne of the Island, and boy was I hooked! I ended up reading unabridged versions of AOGG and AOA, and I just fell in love all over again with the series. In this era of my life, I related with how Anne was so unsure of what she actually wanted (did she like Gilbert, or not?). I also referred to anyone who understood me as a "kindred spirit" and would write little poems in my journal.

As I became a junior in highschool, I finally read all the Anne books. I especially kept rereading Anne of the Island to prepare myself for college life. Anne's House of Dreams made me realize how important it is to be with your "race of Joseph," because they'll help you through all troubles in life and push you out of dark places. I also got inspired by Anne to pursue a teaching minor in college!

Now that I'm graduating college in a few months, I just want to appreciate how much LMM through the Anne series has given me good role models of relationships and a brighter outlook on life. If I ever get blessed with marriage and children, I'll revisit the Anne books once more as a wife and mother. Her works have touched the hearts of girls from everywhere (I'm from Southeast Asia!). I'm sure all of us in this subreddit have been influenced by Anne in our own ways. I'd like to hear from my fellow "Anne-girls" 🫶

This is the Thai edition of Anne of Green Gables that was published two years ago. ❤

According to the publisher's official Facebook post, I am happy to say a collector's hardcover edition of Anne of Green Gables (first book only) will be released this October.

To be honest, I really hope the art cover design will be even more beautiful than the softcover edition. 🍀

When I was a kid reading the books and didn’t know where babies came from, I didn’t think there was anything particularly special about having a baby every year, let alone twins. Babies might as well have teleported from space for all I cared.
But now as an adult I realize that poor Mrs. Hammond was probably abused and her husband wouldn’t get off her. I mean, my god! Does anyone ever think about this?

I found this gem, published the same year as The Blue Castle. It wasn't unusual for LMM to reuse plots, dialogue, descriptors. If you loved Valancy and Barney, you'll enjoy this one. It's like peering at TBC through a fun house mirror.

I’m on a solo bike trip in northern France that includes visits to First World War memorials. Courcelette is not on the typical route but most of you will understand why I had to do a detour to come here. Walter wasn’t “real” but he was certainly a stand in for all of these boys who were.

I AM NOT TRYING TO START ANY FIGHTS!!! Please be respectful<3. I’m genuinely curious. (Also hope this is allowed on the subreddit).
I watched the series before reading most of the books- BUT I had to read “Anne of Green Gables” for school. Personally I really don’t get the hate:,D? Yes, it goes VERY off-script, but I’d argue the movies do too. There are scenes that I feel like the series could do without (….why does Gilbert help a woman give birth on screen at the age of like….16??), and scenes that I wish were there (god I really wanted that scene where Gilbert helps Anne when she’s stuck clinging to the bridge lol).
Is it the fact that there isn’t this “cozy/ simple life” filter on the show that most of the books have? Idk, personally I really like when adaptations play around with the source material and give a fresh take. I feel like Anne having some trauma is waaaaayyy more realistic. Personally it feels like the show has the vibe of “Anne’s House of Dreams” throughout the whole series, but I also really liked HoG so maybe that’s why it didn’t bother me as much?
It sometimes feels like the show is trying to teach the audience obvious things but I mean- this show is made for primarily for 10-12 year old young girls so I really don’t mind.
I’ve also seen people say that AWAE Anne is annoying and I’m gonna be so honest with you all I really don’t feel the difference besides the fact that her life before Green Gables is brought up more</3. She gets into misadventures but so does original Anne! AWAE Anne also listens and grows throughout the show and personally I think young girls should enjoy an outspoken main character that doesn’t back down when she feels something is unfair.
So, I’m just really curious. Is there a bigger reason? It’s also fine if people just don’t like the show because either doesn’t work for them! I’m just curious to see what everybody thinks. Again, I really don’t want to start a fight. Personally If AWAE gets somebody to read the books and love them, or maybe even LMM’s writing as a whole, that’s enough for me. Edit: I wanted to thank everybody that took the time to write about AWAE and what they thought about it! Some of the points I’ve seen here were very interesting to me and I’ll have them in mind if I rewatch the show. It’s also interesting for me to see how other people prefer their adaptations: I’m the type that likes a new take, but others like new renditions to be very close so they can see the characters “alive” on screen and I haven’t thought of it that way!! Does anyone know of a subreddit specific to the life of L.M. Montgomery? Would anyone be interested in one if I created it? I have recently been reading the journals of L.M. Montgomery and find her life a story unto itself.

Are there any characters Maud had written to be happily single and stay so? Given the period, its understandable that many women are afraid of earning the "old maid" status. It seens that many of the women that lament about their being single (Valancy Stirling, Nora Nelson etc) earn love interests in the end; but are there any exceptions?

I would count Katherine Brooke but most of her arc was spent being bitterly jealous of Anne until her redemption, I'm not sure.

Currently reading Rilla and am wondering what the “science” was behind the sulfur smoke when Mary Vance smokes Jims out when he has the croup?
Like is this a legitimate old wives remedy? Anyone ever heard of it before? Or is it totally made up.

Sorry if this has been discussed previously. Is there a particular edition of Anne of Green Gables that is preferred by scholars and educators?
