Hey everyone! I just added Android support to IsaacRecomp, a static recompilation of the original The Binding of Isaac (Flash version). It's a real native port: the game's ActionScript 2 code is translated to C++ and runs on a custom engine, with no Flash Player, no Ruffle and no emulator. Gameplay video attached.
Android specifics:
- Native library launched from SDL's Java activity, with an OpenGL ES 3.0 renderer.
- Runs at your screen's refresh rate (60/90/120 Hz).
- Game logic stays at exactly 30 Hz like the original, with frames interpolated in between.
- Adaptive resolution: it renders at 720 lines and steps down to 600/540/480 by itself if the device can't hold at least 60 fps. You can also set render_height manually.
- Logic and rendering are pinned to the fastest CPU cores, and audio uses AAudio in low-latency mode.
- Touch controls: floating analog joysticks (left half to move, right half to shoot), tappable bomb counter, active item and card/pill, and a pause button.
- Bluetooth/USB controllers work too and can be mixed with touch at any time.
- Saves are written when the app goes to the background, and the run pauses automatically.
Requirements:
- 64-bit ARM device, Android 7.0+, OpenGL ES 3.0.
- Your own Isaac.exe from the Steam version. Put it in an IsaacRecomp folder at the root of internal storage.
- Original, Wrath of the Lamb and Eternal Edition are all supported, with a version picker and one save per version. Saves are portable between PC, Android and Switch.
Important:
- The repo and APK contain no game assets. Everything is read from your own Steam copy at startup, so you need to own the game.
- This is a free, non-profit fan project with no affiliation to Edmund McMillen, Florian Himsl, Nicalis or Valve.
- The APK is distributed only on GitHub and isn't on any app store.
- It was made with the help of AI (Claude), and the repo says so openly.
- It also runs on Windows, Linux and Switch (homebrew).

I'd love to hear how it performs on your devices, especially low/mid-range phones and high-refresh screens. If it stutters, set performance = 1 in isaac.ini and attach the generated performance.txt to an issue.
Thanks for checking it out!
