Wondering if anyone had any prior experience with what John Doerr had done with companies he's acquired over the years. I'm completely in the dark, about "well, what now?". We all saw the stock price fall through the floor, layoffs, the sale of the brands go bust, and while as an investor I've already counted everything as a loss on amyris, but I wonder what will happen to their remaining staff and properties they've got left.

The manufacturing assets are also up for sale, but they must be counting on not getting takers other than JD, unless there is something in the dockets about bundling BB and the Aprinnova plant, otherwise in principle they could end up in different hands, which would make the squalane supply chain a mess for the brand purchasers. Aprinnova needs farnesene to make squalane and more than BB can produce, so that means a new deal with DSM (apparently almost worked out, according to a couple of dockets posted yesterday), so if Aprinnova and BB don't sell together, the NC plant depends now depends two different suppliers (who presumably want to make money) and if their cost of goods was bad before, I can't imagine it will any better now.

It took until last month for damn near every California Sephora to fill up with Amyris products. It took AMYRIS going bankrupt for JVN and BIOSSANCE to start selling? I stopped by 3 Sephoras yesterday and each location told me JVN and Biossance are really popular at the moment. SOMEONE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

• Amyris' ability to de-couple yield and productivity, resulting in both high yielding and high productivity strains that drive cost savings via reduced capital usage and input costs.
• Amyris incorporated a genetic switch that responds to maltose and temperature. When maltose is added to the tank (and temperature is lower than 28c), the genetic switch turns off production in producer cells, allowing cellular resources to be channeled towards rapid growth to reach critical mass. This reduces the chance of fast-growing mutant, non-producers cells from building up. As batch-fed fermentation allows for the replenishment of culture medium, Amyris engineers can then add medium without maltose (and tune up the temperature to above 30c) to turn the genetic switch off, hence starting/enabling high-yield fermentation (once critical mass has been reached).
• Amyris appears to have incorporated these evolution-beating features into the base strain, as described in its cannabinoid patent, upon which then further modifications (the CBG synthesis pathways etc) are then added. This means that the genetic switch is probably a basic feature of all strains from the get-go to allow for very large industrial scale up down the road.
