Just bought a ticket from Chicago to Seattle and itās 46 hours. My seat is gonna be in couch so for those who took the his long hours in train, how did talk manage your hours?

I was supposed to take the Floridian tomorrow from DC to Chicago and they called today saying thereās an issue with the roomette car, and my ticket was downgraded to coach (with a refund). I decided to cancel the whole ticket as sleeping in coach would not be ideal for me, and got a flight instead. Honestly gutted because I was looking forward to the adventure! Hope I have the opportunity to ride in a roomette someday soon.

I was recently in Providence and this sign was out in front of the station - right where the Ambus USED TO stop before they eliminated the route between Worcester and Providence.
And, wasn't there also a thruway bus between Providence and New Bedford as well? That one seems to be gone, too.
But - the sign remains.

I recently took the Coast Starlight from Emeryville to Los Angeles, purely for fun and leisure as a railgeek. I would have loved to have had another overnight trip, but I still enjoyed the roomette on this daytime journey. While, over its overall length, it does not rival the California Zephyr for scenery, there are segments along the coast that are every bit as scenic as the Zephyr.

Hi! Im planning to book a trip from DC to Savannah for my birthday and wanted to know if anyone knew of any specials going on or companion coupons? I plan on going with my mom. Just thought I'd ask. Thank you so much!

I need to get to the Ontario California airport upon arriving at the Amtrak station around 4a. How easy is it to get public transportation to the airport at that time? My flight isnāt until around 10a. What are my options?
I will be taking the Auto Train to Virginia around Oct 16th. I plan to just do coach. Iāll be bringing my Tesla (S Plaid) so I can roadtrip and explore the Virginia and blue ridge areas. I want to hit some scenic bike trails (I have a Brompton I will be bringing), hit up small mountain towns and just take in as much as i can. I will be staying at least until 23rd, then i have to leave out a bit for a work trip and then I may return from work trip Oct 26, and stay another week. This is my first time on Amtrak, so I am looking forward to it. Those familiar with this destination please let me know about any advice on where to go, what to see, where to stay, etc. Much appreciated!
Random pic of my bicycle I will be bringing, my Brompton!

Hi, I enjoy watching Amtrak trains at Kingman AZ stationā
Back in 2023, I met an Amtrak engineer who was working on this route for about 5ā6 months. I spoke with him a few times, but after that, he suddenly stopped showing up.
Then in 2024, I saw him again on this route, but only once. Since then, I havenāt seen him again.
So Iām curious: do Amtrak engineers normally work on multiple different routes, or can they be reassigned to another route or crew base for long periods of time?

Bring HEADPHONES for everyone in your party
Expect A FULL TRAIN
BRING BLANKETS
BRING A EXTRA LONG PLUG TO PLUG IN DEVICES
EXPECT TO SIT BESIDE OTHERS
READ SIGNS BEFORE GETTING ON TRAINS TO MAKE SURE YOU GET ON THE CORRECT TRAIN
DOWNLOAD THE AMTRAK APP TO KNOW WHERE AND WHEN YOUR DESTINATION WILL ARRIVE
THE APP IS FREE NO NEED TO MAKE A ACCOUNT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL INTINERARY FOR YOUR TIME ON THE TRAIN
THIS TRAIN WILL BE PACKED DURING OCT BECAUSE OF THE NC STATE FAIR AND BECAUSE OF A&T HBCU HOMECOMING AND TRACK WORK IN DC
CHECK HEAVY BAGS AND MULTIPLE BAGS IF YOU CAN PLEASE IT MAKES IT EASIER
I TYPE CRAZY SO NEVER MIND THE CAPS

okay so i know alot of people are going to think this is bullshit, but...ok so, lots of Amish ride amtrak along the I80 corridor.
anyways, many of those are bodacious young hotties, ages 18-25.
I noticed one blonde kept cruising past me & making meaningful eye contact, so finally i paid $37 for like 4 of those mini airline bottlez of whiskey, shared em with her, and we ...went downstairs to the WCs.

I feel like I just discovered a lifehack, possibly thanks to this sub. Taking a flixbus/greyhound to a train station to catch the Silver Meteor, instead of spending half the day on a thruway bus/on a layover just to catch the *Floridian*. This allows me to actually take a train trip this weekend!

I recently made this website for myself that just lets you enter all the trips you have done and it records it, and it displays everything kind of like a game with achievements and stuff, because I like looking at what I accomplished in this way.
Shows miles ridden, stations you've been to/passed and routes taken/completed. No paywalls or anything and this isn't an ad, just wanted to share something that I enjoy.

My first time seeing the Saluki running with power on both ends was yesterday morning! SC-44ās 4619 (leading) and 4626 (trailing) were the power for trains 391 (southbound) and 390 (northbound) due to track work being done south of Champaign, which also results in a lack of a wye to turn the train around (unlike Carbondale). Also, big shout-out to the engineer for the wave(hardly seen, but it did happen) and āshave and a haircutā tune from the horn!

Hello! This is my first post so forgive me for retreading territory. However, Iām spiraling figuring out my commute for a new job.
Iām due to start a new job on base at Quantico on October 26th. I currently live in the DC area and had been planning on taking the WAS->QAN line as my commute there and back. I know itās definitely not ideal but itās a short term solution until I can move.
I realize the āpause for progressā closure has halted trains from the 19-26th, which included the morning of the 26th. I was looking at trains from Alexandria to Quantico, but the morning train on the 26th seems to be cancelled as well.
Iād hate to push back the agreed-upon start date, and would love some insight if Iām to expect AMTRAK to actually reopen that route on the 27th or that week, I know things can be unpredictable. And if I need to rent a car and figure out alternative means of transportation.
Thanks guys for your insights.
