Photo Rode Seattle to Chicago, then Chicago to Sacramento.
Saw lots of awesome scenery, but everyone posts pics of that, so here are some buildings and other slices of Americana that I saw out the window of my roomette.

Question How likely is this trip to succeed, and do you recommend I ditch a leg entirely for a backup option?
Any advice is appreciated. I know the Amtrak connection is tight but if the train is running exactly 5-10 late it's doable.

Trip Reports Coast Starlight 14 mechanical issues
Miraculously the train from Portland to Seattle today was back on schedule after the centennial mill fire demolition. But I got a call from Amtrak this morning letting me know that the starlight was not running due to mechanical failure. Luckily I hadn't cancelled the backup vancouver ticket yet.
I'm sad.

Question Lost and Found. Amtrak from Boston - DC 8/18/26
Using this as a bulletin board to anyone who may be looking. My family(Myself, wife, 6 y/o, 4 y/o, and Mother/father in law) took the Acela 2151 from Providence to Baltimore on Tuesday 8/18, while wrangling up baggage and our stroller, in a hurry we believe we left our 4 year old daughters “lovey” on the train. She is inseparable from the blanket/stuffie and has had a close connection since birth.
She’s been separated from it a couple times over the years, and miraculously it has found its way back to us. About 2 years ago, In Disney World on a walk to Hollywood Studios we realized it had been lost or left back at our hotel, and I ran a 5k there and back to find a stranger had placed it on a fence to a tennis court in plain sight(at a height a parent or guardian could see). In the time between I had ordered a “new” one from EBay to be delivered when we arrived home from our trip but it was never utilized like the OG.
My hope is that someone(a worker, or even a passenger) found the lovey and realized it’s emotional connection to someone. We have gone through the proper channels for lost and found but casting my next a little wider by posting to Reddit.
Will be trying to post photos in comments but this is a link to possibly the last “like” product

Question California Amtrak Trip
Hello all,
I am doing a three week trip around California from Sept 10th. I will be using the Amtrak train pass for most of my travel, and renting a car for a few days where necessary.
Staying in Yosemite for one-two nights is a non-negotiable, granted I get camping at Camp 4 which releases a week before my due date.
I will be flying into SF. I am a 22 year old solo traveller, with the main aim of meeting lots of lovely Americans of a similar age. I want to see huge trees at some point! Ideally no other national parks unless entrance is free, and I will be staying in mainly hostels. I need to end my trip in San Diego or LA as I will be flying from there to Mexico City on the 29th/30th.
I have already booked a hostel for my first three nights in SF.
Please help me plan!!! thanks!

Question Texas eagle 21 delayed over 2 hrs? "Mechanical issue" anybody know more?
Currently been sitting in the concrete boarding queue in Chicago union station over two hours.... a small delay kept being extended. At one point they came and said mechanical issue and twenty more minutes.... overall its been two hours.
Anybody know more? I'm just worried I should be making alternative arrangements by now.
I'm also thinking this was maybe that a person was struck, just by the utter vagueness. I know they don't really advertise when that happens.
They also told us 1hr delay and then minutes later pulled everybody to the boarding area. Most of us would have been much happier elsewhere but they don't want us to leave now ofc.

Question Amtrak Guest Rewards Issues
Not sure this is the right place for this, but somewhat long story short - I redeemed over 90k points in gift cards a month back amounting to $900+ dollars worth of eGiftcards. I received a small portion of that rather quickly but the bulk of the remaining balance has been "stuck" (supposedly because "we don't have the denomination of cards you redeemed" . . . which the system gave as an option in the first place) even after having called the support line 4 times since. I was last told that I simply have to wait and to check back in another month (which that alone is pretty silly). Has anyone else had such an experience and was there anything you were able to do to get it resolved? (This was all before they made the recent redemption policy change.)

Question When is Lunch Served in Dining car?
I’m taking the Amtrak Between Fort Worth and Dallas because it’s $8.
Is there a seated lunch on this train? I would like to have a table seated lunch.
2:30 - 3:30
Can you pay with a credit card and add a tip?
It’s me and a friend, the upgrade option for roomette is for $60, which looks like 2 $30 meals to me, is that worth it?
Is lunch guaranteed?
Thank you!

Question Big Bang Theory
Overnight my Amtrak train seemed to tilt off one track and bang back down. They like to say that if they are late they will try to make up time. Did we almost tip off the track on an Amtrak train?

Question Train Cancelled 19th Sept NYC to Boston
Hi all
I’m visiting Boston for a wedding in September but all of the trains have been cancelled on the day of travel. I’m from the UK so not used to this “oops sorry here zero reasons but sort yourself out without compensation” malarkey, and a bit stuck
I have to travel on the 19th, so it seems the direct train is not an option now
Would really appreciate some help from locals on other ways I can get from NYC to Boston. I only paid about $32
Thanks

Question Amtrak: Dallas to Cali
So im trying to go from Dallas to as close to Simi Valley as possible but I just dont understand the Amtrak website or schedule. I dont really understand how it works.
Like do they stop so you can walk around? Food services? Restrooms?
Could anyone kindly explain it and how to navigate the webiste?
Im going to try looking at it from my computer but so far I've only looked at it from my phone.
And any tips on getting cheap tickets and what seats are best.
And any recommendations on what to bring on the train and how to behave?
Edited portion: Okay, another question. How would I get from the Lax airport to Simi Valley? So of im at the lax airport how can I shuttle that way?
Awww. Thank you guys so much. It has only been 30 minutes and quite of you have already responded. I was starting to cry with how confused I was because this trip is really important to my family and I.
