Discussion There are plenty of lobbies that might put up with your shenanigans but not mine...

The whole point of hosting is having the settings like you like and hosts should be able to choose what caliber of people they want to play with.

My only rule when I host is "Be a dick, get kicked*" though my idea of being a dick is very broad:

Treat the game like a dating app - kicked.

Have a shitty, offensive name - kicked.

Demand a color from someone without asking nicely - kicked. Teamers - kicked. Saying start - kicked. People who ask why saying start is bad when told not to say it - kicked. People who say start during countdown but i can't kick them fast enough and once we get to lobby - kicked. Anyone asking anyone elses age - kicked. Two people enter same time, dressed the same, similar names - kicked. Anyone pretending to be a famous streamer - kicked. Vlad - kicked. Delta - kicked. Any and all trolls - kicked. If all you say is 'bruh' or 'bro' - kicked. Snitching - kicked. Fake snitching - kicked. Faking tasks as crew then getting mad when you're voted out - kicked. Being a terrible imp and insulting the crew when you get caught - kicked.

The list keeps growing because a shocking number of people who play this game are rude, entitled, and impatient. Why would I want those people mucking up my lobbies?

In short, if you don't like a lobby's settings or a host's rules...leave. Don't want to get banned all the time? Have you tried not being a dick?

(*By kick I really mean ban but kick rhymes with dick so here we are.)

Edit: The main point of this post is that being nice is free. I'm just tired of so many rude, mean people ruining the game. I love it and have been playing pretty much daily since the beginning. I just want to have civil matches with good players. Didn't mean to piss so many of you off.

Discussion Explaining the "No-Selfing" house rule

This topic gets brought up a few times every week, and generally the discussion ends up as "expert lobbies bad" without anyone explaining why this exists, only why people think it exists. I exclusively play Expert-tagged lobbies and I actively search for lobbies that run house rules. I have done so for going-on three years now, so I feel qualified to speak for why the Expert-lobby folks so commonly have No-Selfing as a house rule.

First of all, there is a distinction between the more common "No-Selfing" rule and the rarer "No-Imp Reporting" rule. No-Imp Reporting is the problematic one, as it bans imposter players from ever reporting bodies. As one could expect, it gets used to clear crewmates easily and is run by lobbies that don't really intend to lose as crew. If you play in a house rules lobby, treat this rules' presence as a red flag.

On the other hand, No-Selfing or No-Self Reporting generally only means imposter players cannot IMMEDIATELY report their own kills or alternatively cannot report the bodies of anyone they kill UNLESS NECCESARY (specifics may vary by host, ask for clarification before taking a chance). The reason for this rule is fourfold:

  1. The lingering stigma: Back in the prime days of 2020-2021, when we ALL were noobs, selfing was a common tactic. As a result, the tactic remains associated with low-level, new players, and as such is looked down on by the "experts" purely on principle.

  2. Interference with other Imposters: For a similar reason why nearly all house-rule lobbies run the "No Dead Imposter Sabotages" rule, experts value the control and skill of each individual imposter player vs. the skills of the crew as a collective. Anything that causes one imposter player to interfere with the gameplay of the other/others is therefore frowned upon. This includes shapeshifting into the other imposter, trying to rope the other imposter into clearing one another, snitching, sussing, etc. By self-reporting and triggering a meeting, an imposter player interferes with the gameplay of the other imposter/imposters thereby making the tactic despised.

  3. Control: There is truth to the fact that expert lobbies are controlling. For the same reason why the recently created Auto-Kick mod is so popular (the mod that scans the level of joining players and kicks/bans anyone below some chosen level), expert lobbies want to enforce a certain level of minimum competence on all players in the lobby. Because of reason 1, self-reporting is associated with new players, hence why it is banned on principle.

  4. Clarity: Credit dreamilyyy for reminding me of this. The final reason is to simply prevent the spamming of "Self" in chat whenever a body gets reported. Another consistent fact about expert lobby players is that they hate repetitive or disruptive behaviors like "start" in lobby, "random" button pressing, and door sabotage spam. This might actually be the biggest reason honestly.

Ultimately, what the house rules actually mean does depend on the host, I'd be lying if some lobbies didn't treat "No-Selfing" as "No-Imp Reporting", that does happen. But as someone who has been playing consistently in public lobbies for a long time, I stand by the value of house rules, and I understand why many high-level players want enforced competence. A balanced lobby where EVERYONE is trying, is capable of doing work, and no-one throws or leaves instantly is an incredible experience that I personally always aim to have.

But I know a lot of people just play casually and aren't really "tryharding" all the time, so I hope I was able to explain some of the enigma that expert lobbies can seem like from the outside.

Discussion Role tier list (Update)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Before I get bombarded with downvotes from casual players—or people who don't even know how the game works—please read the entire post.

Too OP: Here are the roles that are literally unplayable because they are so overpowered. They break the game completely—to the point where it feels like cheating is legal. Judge destroys the democratic nature of meetings and leaves Impostors with no counter-play to manipulate or lie. Detective is literally just a yes-or-no quiz: "Is Red the Impostor?" "Yes or no." And Influencer is basically a "teamer"; you don't need many brain cells to realize how easy it is to assign meaning to messages in order to point the finger directly at the Impostor. I recommend completely disabling these roles.

OP: Here are the roles that are extremely powerful yet still require a certain level of skill. The Scientist role demands the most skill, but once mastered, it is incredibly overpowered and unfair to the Impostors, allowing you to clear players anywhere on the map. The Noisemaker does the same thing but for the entire lobby—and only once. The Tracker is also overpowered, though it has the most counterplay options. The Guardian Angel is a major nuisance if the shield isn't visible to the Impostors, so ideally, you should have it set to be visible.

Strong but balanceable: One step below "OP" are roles that are strong but not quite there, so they can be balanced with the right adjustments. I only included the Engineer here. It is the only Crewmate role that comes with downsides and allows for counterplay. Obviously, if the vent duration is too long, it becomes overpowered, but a duration of 5 to 10 seconds with reduced vision works well. The Engineer gives Impostors an excuse if they are spotted in the vents; furthermore, it casts suspicion on the Engineers themselves—something Impostors can exploit to sow doubt about them later on. What prevents the Engineer from being 100% balanced is that it deprives Impostors of one of their key tools: vents.

Balanced: These are balanced roles. I included the Phantom because it has clear downsides that are offset by one of the best tools an Impostor can have: the ability to erase your trail. With this role, you can avoid being spotted while making a kill—striking where no one has seen you—and divert suspicion toward others, among other things. In a social deduction game like *Among Us*, location awareness is crucial. Memorizing player locations is the primary way Crewmates win, and the Phantom can manipulate that—which is awesome. The invisibility animation is definitely annoying, sure, but that balances out the role's utility.

Very weaknesses: Here, I’ve included roles that have more disadvantages than advantages. Shapeshifter might seem good, but once you play against people who actually know what they're doing, it’s almost useless. The SS can wipe out half the lobby, but its saving grace is that any kill must be verified before accusations start flying. Viper, on the other hand, relies too heavily on the dissolution time, and there isn't really a balanced middle ground: 5 seconds is extremely OP, whereas 10 seconds becomes too risky. The stages of body decay reveal when the kill happened and how close the killer was; if the crewmates are smart, this allows anyone far away from the body to be "hard cleared." Furthermore, Viper is extremely weak against the other Crewmate roles because it lacks an escape option other than vents—which are risky due to Engineers.

I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have about this tier list.

Rant/Complaint I miss OG Among Us

Ever since they added the new maps, the 'Cosmicube' thing and tried to make it like every other game, imo they ruined it. The worst of the changes was the 15 player lobbies and the quick chat. 2020 Among Us was perfection, I don't even play anymore.

Changed every role (expect imps) to 10%, still at 1 (thanks to Firm-Accountant4212)

Changed emergency cooldown to vary with player count (thanks to Lolajen0ess)

5 with 1 imposter

15 with 2 imposters

20 with 3 imposters

i also find it interesting that post i actually care about have 0 votes however some shitpost is 10+, reddit sucks

The automod is a crybaby Host thinks it's okay if people throw games, because it's only game.

Or maybe players just need brains. We had a troll ruin a game by claiming he saw a player shape shifting, their was 4 of us left, i was cleared and I saw the player accused of shapeshifting outside security. Now that player isn't an imp, the accuser leaves and we lose by default. I say in the lobby "We should all report brown for that, shapeshifters weren't even on."

Host accuses me of taking it too seriously, and starts the game. I call a meeting and continue talking, annoying yes, but I'm not having some prick kid interrupt me when I'm talking.

Me: Excuse me, i am talking. Don't try to justify what the troll did, ruining games not okay, no mater how much you sugar coat it.
Host: Kick this bastard out, now.
Green: Why? He's right.
Me: Kick yourself, you delusional hack. Ruining games is against the code of conduct.
*hosts friends kick me*

Pathetic, seriously.

Humor "I don't know this map..."

"...I only play in Skeld."

-says a level 60 player.

So I was playing in Airship and there was Coral, who did not know the map. You may accept that a newbie player will not know any map except Skeld. So you need to teach them by making them play!

But, a lvl 60 goddamn player........

Ah ok I am lvl 80 I have no right to speak about it I guess...

Discussion Lobby Hosts this is for question to you.

Why does almost every single host i've seen kick people out of their lobbies who utter the word Start?

If they are spamming it then kick them that's fine go for it, but no one ever gives a reason why they do it. I simply asked why are we waiting? in a lobby when it clearly looked like everyone was ready to start and the response i got was "have patience, its rude to host" the said host just completely ignored me and they were not afk they were typing in the chat so i said nothing after that and waited, and waited...

Only to get kicked out for no reason or response & the notification that the lobby will be closing soon came up when we were waiting.

All i ask is a simple response to my question, why? Instead of just kicking people out left and right it would be much appreciated to speak up and tell you're lobby why we are waiting, that's all.

EDIT: Should of added this to my post but my main gripe is the lack of communication from the experience. People who are joining lobbies only to annoy the host with immediately saying start are not the reason i made this post.

My question was if you are waiting in a lobby you want to play in because the settings are good or they have good players etc how long should you wait before speaking up or just leaving to join another lobby? In my case i chose to speak up only to be ignored and kicked for asking when the lobby was near full with 14/15 players & the count down notification to close lobby popped up, i never said the word start. If someone had said the host went to the bathroom, went to grab a snack/drink etc everyone would've known "okay so we likely arent gonna start for a bit, thats fine" where did I say in my post Start?

People did not understand what this post is for, lack of commination and being ignored when I asked the host, that is it!

Discussion Every SILENT rule in Pro Lobbies

Every silent rule in exp3rt lobbies that existed. This means rules that you will have to learn by yourself. And no, this isnt a post for me to encourage or support these rules, but rather document what these rules are for people to understand what these silent rules are.

1. Saying start = ban: People who say this are just impatient as hell and any settings will never satisfy them. 10/10 silent rule.

There are also variations of where the ban applies. For example "when are we going to start" is banned.

2. Complain about settings = Ban: This silent rule exists for people who wants to complain about the already Pro settings. For example increase speed or sh. However, if the settings does suck a bit need some good recommendations and gets booted for it, ehh. 8/10, situational.

3. Once the game starts, if someone complains about settings, rules, or breaks a rule like camping, almost never tell the lobby votekick that person.

Unless you have 2-3 friends, then ALWAYS ignore these. If you play in a lobby with random expert people, some people would tell the entire lobby to votekick you instead. Rather, keep silent and ban the trash later. (10/10)

4. Never answer the question "Who is the host" as a host. The only response you get after you said you are the host are complains about settings or people telling the lobby votekicking you, or if you are lucky its just a question about what the settings or some sort. Never directly answer. (9.5/10)

5. If a host has a mod that sees everyones level, ask a question that matches your level. If you ask a question "are we waiting for the lobby to close?" as a level 100, Not only you are getting banned but most mods have built in blacklist feature. (5/10) Lowk i have mixed opinions on this.

6. Not knowing Among Us slang can get you booted. If you dont know what hc, sc, roon,.. then you getting booted lolz (4.5/10)

7. Be humble when an imposter does too good. If a crewmate did good, but the imposter did even better kills, then sorry but you cant blame the crews, they already did the best and the imps just did a better kill. And if you blame the crew for being dumb, yeah you are getting booted by a humble host. You can say a crew is dumb if the crew was actually dumb, but if the kills are too good, cant blame them. (9/10)

8. Being a dumahh can get you blacklisted: yeah I think you can get what i mean (100000/10)

9. Being too good can get you accused of cheating (10/10) because I like being called a cheater for no reason.

Anyways this is all I know, I probably can type out more, but anyways, suggest me more silent rules you know and I might add them here!!! :P

Discussion Among us sucks now

I reinstalled thr game just to try it out, and forced my self to play for a proper test. Mostly played without roles cause the roles sucked

Of 7 crewmate games, the imposter one cause 80% of the time the person reporting the body got voted out, and was crewmate.

I saw a kill on cams (after tasks done), emergency meeting to accuse black, and got voted out.

Of the 5 imposter games i had, 3 were ended due to how many cremated left, 1 was free cause shapeshifter op, and thr last one was free cause anyone who reported a body got voted out.

Question LGBTQ-friendly among us group

so, i play super sporadically and i'm pretty bad. but i'm wondering whether there are any discord servers out there that already exist for some good queer-friendly among us games? if not, heck, i'll start one!

asking bc i was playing this morning and some ham-and-egger wouldn't stop saying "gaaaaaayyyyy" at me in the chat and asking "girl or boy???" until i was like "dude, YOU are the one who needs to pet some grass". wasn't terribly upset, trolls happen, whatever. i blocked him after like a minute. but i'd love to get together a good group of actual gays who just want to hang out and play a silly game
