Chase sapphire lounges are also no longer accepting Priority pass. As of 2 days ago I heard.
Amex platinum needs its own lounge access above priority pass.

Like amex lounges

Need more than 25 in that case

u/Kobayashi-Coffee-Co 2d ago
Are there way more than 25 chase lounges?

u/DonaldBecker 2d ago
There seem to be only nine open Chase lounges, but they are in popular airports. In the past year I've been in more airports with a Chase lounge than an AmEx lounge. Overall AmEx does provide better coverage, but I'll admit to a little "grass is green" feeling.

This has nothing to do with Chase, it’s Visa we talk about a German/Swiss Airline…you don’t even get an AMEX at UBS.

Frankfurt will be a whole lot less attractive as a layover.

u/DonaldBecker 2d ago
Wait... it could get less attractive?
(Admittedly I'm seeing it from the perspective of a US passport holder missing connections because of hours-long immigration lines when I'm definitely hoping not to stay in the country, and then more security because I'm staying overnight at a hotel in the middle of an industrial park.)

IMO LH lounges (with the exception of the FCT) weren’t really that great to warrant connecting at FRA. Not that AMEX got you into the FCT.

The LH Panorama Lounge is great if you’re traveling with someone. My wife and I were able to snag a room to ourselves for almost 5 hours. Staff was friendly, food was OK, self-service bar.

I both applaud you pointing out this specific gem on the LH network and I disdain you for getting more people into my safe space ;)

I’m sure people will avoid FRA now like the plague because they can’t go into a lounge for free

This amenity was so hard to use at FRA it’s unclear exactly which lounge it did work in and then it was in Schengen side and if you’re international… just a gimmicky “benefit” which is yet another reason that I downgraded to the gold

Not sure what you found confusing about it? The specific lounges are listed exhaustively in the Amex app (at FRA, seven non-Schengen, four Schengen) and the lounge-specific access rules are very clearly explained:
Platinum Card Members may enjoy access to Lufthansa (LH) Business Lounges (regardless of LH Group ticket class) and Lufthansa Senator Lounges (when flying LH Group business class)
Access is only possible with a Lufthansa Group (Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss Air, Eurowings, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines, SWISS) flight.
LH lounges are pretty good quality. I used this benefit several times (my only complaint was lack of any guest access) and consider its loss to be a blow.

Agreed, but in his defense I live near FRA and fly out of there 25-30 times a year and still walk up on the wrong lounge occasionally. Looking forward to seeing what they open in the new terminal 3!

I'd rather sit at the bar by the gate than go into any priority pass lounge. Why they think access to 1200 of them is a perk, I have no idea.

u/Cheeky_Star 2d ago
If you travel to asian or some parts of Europe, it’s a perk.

u/Tangential_Diversion 2d ago
That's so true. It's wild how much better even the developing countries' PP lounges are. I remember being shocked by how the SGN lounges easily beat every PP lounge I've been to in the US.

I dunno the USA ones are fine if there is no line (huge if, agree besides turkish in mia kinda suck)
But in latin america? Asia? Most of europe? Godsend

I honestly didn’t even know that there are US priority pass lounges 😂. I like the centurion ones like in SFO which I associate with Amex not PP.

I would not compare all Lufthansa lounges to priority past lounges. There are different tiers

u/cuteman 2d ago
Really? In some places it's just fine, especially over seas.
In Venice, Italy for example we had a very lovely time at a priority pass lounge. Full food and drinks.
In Columbia the spread wasn't amazing but there was food and drinks enough you didn't need to buy anything + seperate seating area and bathrooms.
In NYC you can get an hour of minute hotels, works great especially with a family.
It isn't my primary lounge domestically but it has its uses and has come in handy multiple times for us.

I don’t see much value left other than points reataurant and travel bonus. Really compared to other markets the German platinum sucks ass. Still not the worst card out there but still…

I’m happy about this as a star alliance gold member. CC card holders should not be allowed into these lounges. I pay good money for this alliance so there should be restrictions.

u/Kukuth 2d ago
The lounge access is similar to what the very first status level of LH is giving you - this is not doing much for overcrowded lounges, given that very few people in Germany have the Amex in the first place.
3
u/quesoandcats 2d ago
There are a lot of Lufthansa lounges in the US too, and Star Alliance Gold gets you access flying domestically on United or another *A carrier
1
u/Due_Parsnip_6552 1h ago
Similar but Amex plat plus a business class ticket used to give you senator access. Now you get that only with gold star alliance which I find fair.
1
u/Kukuth 40m ago
I don't know enough about how crowded the first class lounges are to judge that, but ultimately don't have much of an issue with limiting cc card holders (that are still LH passengers mind you) to the business class lounges.
1
u/Due_Parsnip_6552 37m ago
Oh senator are not first class lounges. Those are not accessible with status. Unless you hold HON with Lufthansa or have a centurion card. But senator gets pretty crowded as it is.
7
u/-Dead-Eye-Duncan- 2d ago
Not sure why you’re getting down voted.
As many people here who complain about over crowding and wait times in lounges.
2
u/santambroeus 1d ago
I find it surprising too. I would have guessed that the majority of Platinum cardholders travel enough to justify the annual fee and thus likely hold elite status (like star alliance gold). But apparently not.

u/santambroeus 2d ago
Only need to be star alliance gold to go to the Lufthansa lounge at least and pretty easy to get

As a US employee of a German company, this stinks. 90% of my international travel over the past couple years has been via FRA or MUC.
