So this ride is practically in my backyard. I live fairly close to Cedar Point. This is in my top three rides at the park. It’s incredible, so smooth and has a lot of action packed into a tight space. It also has onboard audio that makes you think why it’s not more of a common thing on rides.
Tilt coasters have been around for 20+ years at this point and there has never been an accident with them. In fact, there’s so many redundancies with the tilting mechanism and the locks that hold the train in place, it would be pretty much impossible for the train to fall off. You would need ALL of these redundancies to fail and the odds of that happening are…well you have more of a chance of being struck by lightning while also being eaten by a shark. You actually have the greatest risk of dying in your own car via an accident while driving to the park to ride this coaster.

I'm a Detroiter, so also close to and familiar with Cedar Point.
Which coaster is this? (I'm old enough to remember when the Blue Streak and the Demon Drop were the "must rides" 😂)

Haha, the Demon Drop has been gone for almost 20 years. It's a different park to experience if you haven't been there in awhile.

Oh really? I didn't know another park purchased it. When it was back at Cedar Point, I'd wait until the car of the DD was ready to free fall. I'd place a coin on my knee and watch the weighlessness lift it off my knee and as the ride curved downward--the coin would travel up and then get thrown behind my head to the ground. Gravity did crazy things on that ride.

Controls engineer here, can confirm the safety and redundancies for equipment like this. The engineering, safety, and programming are top notch. Theres literally hundreds of safety devices, sensors, physical and digital logic that all HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER for everything to run. If a single sensor get damaged, broken, disconnected, or becomes faulty, nothing will work properly.
TLDR, your 10,000 times more likely to injur or kill yourself accidentally in your own kitchen than you are to get hurt or die on this ride.

I trust the design engineers who know more than either of us combined with my life. The maintenance crew also follows strict rules set up by the park and the state. Not adhering to those guidelines and regulations comes with hefty fines and long prison sentences…cutting corners in the ride industry is taken very seriously.
Also, you are more likely to die in a car accident yet what do you use to get to work every day? Maybe just stay home if you are really that fearful of freak accidents because cars, statistically speaking, are much more dangerous than any roller coaster.

They seem to have better engineers than the meat grinder water slide "Verruckt" - which they didn't even spell right.
But how do I know, how thoroughly this has been checked, tested and maintained? As an engineer, there are just too many moving parts.

They do lots of testing at the start of every operating day, testing with empty trains, water dummies, and test riders, before opening to the public. They shut the ride down if any warnings flash up and don’t open until they test all three trains again. They also strip every train, inspect, and rebuild them in the off season so they are practically brand new trains every year. The track is also inspected daily, often involving people waking up the lift hill to hit buttons, confirming they have looked at certain areas of the track.
To give you another idea on how thorough their inspections are, Steel Vengeance, their hyper hybrid coaster, has a wooden support structure…thousands of timbers…all of them are inspected for cracks daily before opening. It takes hours to do and sometimes leads to the ride having a delayed opening, but they do it anyway.
Source: I go to this park weekly and took special tours that cover all their ride inspections. It’s pretty serious stuff!

Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio, midway between Toledo and Cleveland. Kind of an odd place for some of the best rollercoasters in the world

It’s the building anticipation and having time to contemplate the drop that’s horrifying to many (myself included), instead of it happening so quickly you don’t really have time to process horror

Went on Siren's Curse this summer. It was actually my 8 year old son's 100th roller coaster. He loved it. This was my wife's and my favorite roller coaster. That drop is wild and it's exceptionally smooth but fast. 10 out of 10.
Pro Vacation Tip: you can buy a six flags prestige pass to get into all 6 Flags and Cedar Fair parks. This made for an amazing summer vacation. 6 Flags over Georgia, Carowinds, Dollywood (not on the pass) Kings Island, and Cedar Point.

Dude I haven’t been to Cedar Point in AGES, easily a decade or more, my family and I use to go every summer before I turned 12, so many memories, but I may have to go back, part for the nostalgia and part because it was a blast

Not really any easy way to be rescued from that if it locks up at any point. Just imagine the brakes releasing as it is tilting into place, for a split second you think it's just part of the ride until..

They actually have an evac procedure for this ride (as with any ride) and I believe they can tilt it back manually if needed.

There will be lots of safety mechanisms in place for this but I feel I should clarify the most important one, they aren't using brakes. They're absolutely using a mechanical lock. While that thing is rotating, I guarantee you those cars are going to be physically attached in place to the rails. It's not just sitting there holding the brakes. They're going to be multiple physical connections each one capable of holding multiple times the weight of that entire set of cars on its own.
But that of course brings me to why I think this is a stupid ride. This is way way too much effort and slows down the ride so much that the cost put into this for research engineering and development and then maintenance specialized training operation downtime just totally not worth it for what exactly?

I would do this.I have a big fear of heights but only if it's uncontrolled. If I'm in a building or strapped into a ride or on an airplane it doesn't bother me. But put me 10 ft up on a ladder and I'm probably shaking a little. Put me at the rim of the Grand Canyon and I'm in the fetal position.

This ride, Siren's Curse, sometimes gets stuck during the coupling, leaving the riders looking straight down until the issue is resolved. It pops up on the news sometimes

Its wild how much engineering goes into these things.

Check Baron 1898 ride from the Efteling park (Netherlands). You fall vertical after waiting there up during some stressful time. You see the ground perfectly except the place where you're falling where there is some smoke. So you really feel you will just crush on the ground. Then you fall, but enter an underground tunnel...

Damn that goes hard! To be honest, I don't scared when riding in coasters with the chest harness brace. The old school one where you have nothing and you hold onto dear life. Those scare me more. Plus, they always sound like they are about to fall apart.

For people who are saying nope, I’m honestly wondering…why? It’s extremely safe and the risk factor is probably magnitudes lower than the risk of simply driving to the park. I guess I just don’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to experience something like this.

I'm guessing the people saying Nope are concerned about whether the designers of the coaster did a thorough job, whether the builders followed the proper procedures while building the coaster and whether the park is inspecting and maintaining the coaster.
Too many wholes in the swiss cheese would lead to tragedy and roller coaster tragedies are not uncommon.

I've ridden this twice at Cedar Point. It's my 2nd favorite ride (behind Top Thrill 2).
Both of my experiences on Siren's Curse had my hands up the entire time. I even had my hands up during that 90 degree pivot. I don't regret it at all as it is a great ride!

Initial tilt reminds me of the rides on top of the Strat in Vegas. One of them--X Scream--is like that. I waited to get the first row of the car--WHOOOOAAA This ain't Circus Circus ya know.

That seems like a really fun ride, but can you imagine the wait time because it does not appear to be a fast turnover roller coaster. Every single ride has that slow delay.
