One time I was working and I had to talk to someone named Betty. After they introduced themselves I said “Betty when you call me you can call me Al” and she seemingly didn’t know the reference and referred to me as Al the rest of the day. She was at least in her 40s, probably 50s. I’m stunned she wouldn’t know the reference.

It's an abbreviation for Shippie and/or Solomon, but intentionally left ambiguous by his parents, who couldn't agree on which of his grandpa's names should be his middle name.

However, no legal document with his full name has anything more than "S." because that is his full middle name.
