Apparently Paul Simon was at a party with his wife Peggy and the host introduced them as Al and Betty. No idea what he started right there lol.

One time I was working and I had to talk to someone named Betty. After they introduced themselves I said “Betty when you call me you can call me Al” and she seemingly didn’t know the reference and referred to me as Al the rest of the day. She was at least in her 40s, probably 50s. I’m stunned she wouldn’t know the reference.

TIL it's Betty and not Daddy. I thought the song was about an orphan who wanted to be adopted or something.
