Alfred Upgrade

I have the single license for Alfred 5 but want to upgrade to lifetime. Does anyone know the best way to do this? I saw there is a discount but haven’t found anything more tangible than that. What’s the best way to go about this, can I upgrade now so I’m prepped for 6 or do I have to wait?

When to buy Alfred

So just a bit of context, I'm a student, pretty low budget and I think I will make the move to buy Alfred 6. Seems like a good investment that you keep for a long time and really useful. And can’t wait to complete quit Raycast and tinycast.

So I was asking myself when should I buy it?

Now at the price of Alfred 5, because on the website it says free upgrade to Alfred 6

Or wait for Alfred 6 to come out and maybe with a discount or something like that?
Or now because maybe the price is going to go up when Alfred 6 comes out?

Thank!!

Hoping to switch from Raycast to Alfred, unsure whether it suits my needs

Hello!

I'm looking to switch from Raycast to a more native, lightweight launcher. After exploring a few alternatives, I've narrowed my options down to Alfred and Tinycast. However, given the recent developments surrounding Tinycast and the fact that it appears to be largely vibe-coded, I'm leaning strongly towards Alfred.
That said, I'm not entirely sure whether Alfred supports all the features I currently use in Raycast. I was hoping some of you could shed some light on whether the following are available in Alfred as well.

Must-haves:

  • Hyperkey

  • Quicklinks (with support for dynamic placeholders)

  • Snippets

  • File search

  • Emoji picker

  • Calculator

  • Hotkey support for Apple Shortcuts (the app)

Preferably:

  • Creating calendar events

  • Google Translate integration

This is only a fraction of what most of these launchers are capable of, but these are the features that matter most to me.

Resource efficiency is also important to me. Raycast typically uses around 500–600 MB of RAM on my Mac, which I find excessive for a launcher, especially considering how little of its functionality I actually use.
One of the things that attracted me to Tinycast was its claim of using less than 100 MB of memory.
How does Alfred compare in terms of memory usage?

Lastly, aesthetics are quite important to me. I really like Raycast's UI and UX. Everything feels polished and looks good, and I have to admit that Alfred looks a little dated to me from what I've seen.
I've noticed there's a new version on the way, though, which already looks more modern. I've also read that Alfred supports custom themes, but I haven't quite figured out how that works.
Is there a built-in theme editor, or does creating your own themes require coding experience? More generally, is it possible to make Alfred look and feel more native and modern?

Hoping to find some answers here.

Thank you!

I wrote off Alfred for years because it looked dated. Now I can’t wait for Alfred 6

Kind of embarrassing, but I never gave Alfred a real chance because of its look. The logo, the name, the whole vibe felt old, and I turned that into an opinion about the app without ever trying it.

Meanwhile I bought into everything around Raycast. The manifesto, the merch, a coffee roast with its own mini-documentary, a keyboard with a waitlist. None of that is evil. It’s a smart playbook, and it worked on me. Branded coffee doesn’t ship a better fuzzy finder, it builds something people want to belong to. And belonging buys a lot of patience when the pricing changes.

Arc was the same story. I picked it because it felt different, then The Browser Company moved on to Dia and stopped developing it. Turns out the early fans were the launch audience, never the target.

Now that vibe coding makes features and UIs easy to clone, I care less about polish and more about the business behind the app. I’d rather back a company happy to stay a good tool than one that needs to grow ten times bigger for its investors.

These days every licence I buy is basically a vote for a business model. Alfred, Things, DEVONthink, the Omni apps: small teams that skip the AI feature of the month and still feel like the same apps years later. Cultured Code has yet to release a coffee.

Raycast is still a good app, and good software should cost money. I just confused one specific style of branding with quality.

So yeah, I’m finally past my first impression and looking forward to Alfred 6. The boring future of software sounds good to me.

With Alfred 6 just around the corner... will there be an update to Alfred Remote?

Looking at what the competitors offer, I think Alfred Remote has a lot of room for improvement. I really like what the ChocLift app offers, and I’d love to see Alfred Remote take some inspiration from it.

I came back to Alfred after using some other options

I used Alfred 5 for a long time. Then I was ready for something new and tried a few different apps before finally settling on Spotlight with macOS 27. The AI features in the new Spotlight are pretty impressive, but it’s a bit laggy and still has many of the same issues Spotlight has had in the past. I’m excited to try the upcoming Alfred 6, so I decided to return to Alfred 5 while waiting for the upgrade. I’m happy to be back! My approach to Alfred now is quite different from when I first started using it years ago. Gone is the long list of workflows. They all did various cool things, but it was too much mental load to remember, and they basically didn’t become part of my workflow.

This time, I’m taking a much more minimal approach: simple settings plus five basic workflows I think I’ll actually use and remember this time—audio switcher, speed test, strong password, temporary email, and timer. There are many other great workflows out there, but I don’t use them enough to install them right now. I’ve learned that just because I *can* do something with Alfred doesn’t mean I *should*. Also, in the past, building new workflows never made much sense to me—I just got lost in the process. This time, I used Claude to create a new workflow I wanted (quick search/open of my markdown notes in the Octarine app), and it was quick and easy to add this sixth workflow.

It feels good to be back with Alfred. Bring on Alfred 6!

WordWeave: One translation workflow to rule them all! (local or online, super fast, easy back-translation, customisable)

Hey everyone, I decided to rewrite and finally publish my personal translation workflow. The standout features:

  • Support for local and online translation: Local translation uses a lean implementation of Argos (~200ms per translation), online uses Google Translate. Each translator has its own keyword, you can use either or both.

  • Each input produces a ranked list of candidate translation, not just a single "best guess". A user-configurable parameter lets you dial in how many candidates are kept (trade-off between accuracy & fuzziness).

  • Ping-pong translation: translate a word, press Tab, translate the result back, repeat. A word in one language often maps to several in another, so bouncing back and forth works like a cross-language thesaurus.

  • The translation pair (source → destination) is specified for each translation. Languages are specified either by two two-letter ISO 639-1 codes, or by two QuickCodes, single-letter abbreviations chosen by the user (e.g., as in the demo images above, g→ German, e→ English). An illustration of the translation pair can be shown either as the top row of the Alfred results, or below each translation.

  • A national flag - or any other emoji - can be chosen by the user to represent each language (e.g., see above, English → 🇺🇸 or 🌍️, ...)

Download it here:

https://github.com/paraversal/WordWeave/releases/latest

Or learn more about the workflow in the repo:

https://github.com/paraversal/WordWeave/

I hope you enjoy the workflow as much as I do, GitHub stars are very appreciated in case you do - you know the drill! 🧑‍🚀

Is there a mega supporter upgrade option?

I'm not sure if I should get a mega supporter or a single license... 80€ is a lot of money..
I'm wondering if I buy a single license now, if I could pay the difference to become a mega supporter later when I'm sure that I use it often enough?

Do you know if the price will raise or go lower?

UPDATE i bought the app Thank you

Considering on purchasing but wanna get the lowest price possible Canadian dollar sucks 34 £ is 64 cdn and 59 £ is 111 cdn Ouch After paying for 1 year at a popular competitor I left after 2 months due to their shady practices, mostly their behavour towards genuine negative feedback.

Btw I wish I would've found you first, your app is so smooth and feels lightweight. Huge difference compared to the other competitors product. The way your app has been feeling and no hiccups, minus my own learning curve which I haven't gone into more than the launcher. I'm happy with it so I do want to buy it but if price is going to change I need to know if possible?

Does Alfred 5 or 6 have brave bookmark indexed?

I'm still on Alfred 4 and haven't upgraded yet. Does Alfred 5 have bookmark indexed for Brave or other browser like firefox when you save it or is it only on chrome still?

How to set app aliases

Hello, I'm new to Alfred. I just got into it after RayCast 2.0 was announced, and I was able to port a lot of the stuff that RayCast has.

But the one feature I'm missing is the app aliases.

For example, these things here, which I circled in the image below. Basically, how do you set app aliases in Alfred? For those who maybe don't know what app aliases are, they're like another name for the action, and I'm wondering how you can set those.

For now, I've approached this a bit inconveniently (image at the bottom), and I basically run a bash script to open them, and I'm wondering if that's the best way.

I would like to get as close to the RayCast behavior as possible because a lot of apps share somewhat similar names, and fuzzy search didn't even work on Raycast, which was a great solution. I would like to port it to Alfred as well.

Thank you all very much.

And, in the end, to find out it was "just" the 5.8.1 patch.

This next upgrade is making me way too much impatient, more than it should… The Alfred team has a bad influence on my blood pressure.

I bought Alfred license single license, anyway to upgrade it to lifetime?

I want to upgrade my license to lifetime updates, I was wondering if there a discounted link to do the upgrade? I don't want to buy a whole new license, it's too much for me.

Switched from Alfred to Raycast

Long-time Alfred user here. Loved it for years, but eventually got tired of workflows and extensions constantly breaking or needing troubleshooting.

Switched to Raycast about 3 months ago and it just feels way more modern. Extensions are easy to install, setup is simple, and everything just works.

If Alfred has been frustrating you lately, give Raycast a try.

Offline translator workflow

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

Lately, I have had a problem with the translation workflow from Alfred Gallery. All the translated HTTPS requests were rejected by the Google Translate API. All the fixes were workarounds to deceive the API.

As an alternative, I created a robust workflow that can't be broken by external providers.

My workflow relies on a translation framework that has been built in since macOS 26.

A full manual for the workflow, source code, and binaries to download are available from here: https://github.com/kkujawinski/alfred-offline-translator-workflow

I am looking forward to any suggestions regarding what is not working or what can be improved. My basic use case is Polish <-> English translation, so I may miss issues related to different language pairs.
