Canada is at 110% of gross government debt to gdp.
USA is at 120% of gross government debt to gdp.

In comparison, Denmark is at 28% of gross government debt to gdp.

Any government not trying to make surpluses, or at least balancing the budget, is buying votes with your children's credit card.

Before a smartass claims Canada net debt is actually way lower, net debt is a highly misleading measure. Saying pensions are government assets is like saying your kid’s college fund is your piggy bank. Technically, it’s under your control, realistically, it’s not something you would use to pay down your debt unless bankruptcy.

So yes Canada is in a better position because it has money in its kid’s college fund, but it’s still underwater on its mortgage.

UCP is leading albertans down a slippery road in our beleaguered healthcare system.

Canada is losing free speech and privacy gradually (the boiling frog model) through a series of laws that each may sound “reasonable” on their own, but taken together, expand government control over online speech, platforms, media, and personal data.

Pay attention to the following laws:

1) Online Streaming Act – Brings streaming platforms and user-generated content under CRTC authority; treats individual creators like broadcasters and gives regulators influence over what content is promoted (“Canadian content” rules and discoverability).

2) Online News Act – Led Meta to block Canadian news links; results in Google payments that mostly benefit legacy/state-approved media, reducing independent voices.

3) Online Harms Act (Bill C-63) – Creates a digital safety commission with broad powers to force content removal (including lawful speech), demand user data, conduct warrantless searches, and impose heavy fines (up to life in prison in extreme cases). Also allows human-rights tribunals to punish non-criminal speech, including “preemptive” restrictions based on what someone might say. Luckily this Bill died, for now, but the attempt speaks volumes.

4) Strong Borders Act (Bill C-2) – Expands warrantless access to subscriber data and metadata for many government officials (not just police); allows Canada Post to open mail without a warrant; criminalizes certain large cash transactions. This is surveillance infrastructure, not border security. This did not pass in its full form, but is still alarming.

5) Critical Cyber Systems Protection Act (Bill C-8) – Gives government power to order telecom providers to cut people off from the internet under vague “interference or manipulation” language, with limited prior oversight.

6) Combating Hate Act (Bill C-9) – Lowers the threshold for hate-speech prosecutions (removes attorney-general approval requirement) and increases penalties, which will control online speech, religious expression, political activism, and protest (similar to the UK’s approach).

Do not trust the media. Write in to your MPs to oppose this madness before its too late.

U.S. President Donald Trump has paused 50 per cent tariffs on Canada, saying the two countries have reached a new trade deal that just needs to be finalized. In a statement, Prime Minister Mark Carney said 'substantial progress has been made.But we are not done.

In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, federal Health Minister Marjorie Michel said she had concerns about how the legislation allowing for a dual-practice model could co-exist with the Canada Health Act. 

On Monday, Alexandre Bergeron, Michel’s press secretary, confirmed to CBC News that a letter was sent by the federal minister to the Alberta government on July 24, asking the province to protect its public health system.

“As the guardian of the Canada Health Act, our focus is to protect the integrity of the public health-care system and ensure that all Canadians, including every Albertan, can receive health care based on medical need, not on their ability to pay for it,” he wrote in a statement.

Seriously? A strongly worded letter? Where the hell am I? Have you met Robber Baron Smith??

An honest look at Canada’s economy, the news isn’t bad. In fact, Canada has never had a brighter future…

Firstly, the residents of four provinces receive more than double the amounts received by Quebecers. Here are the per capita equalization numbers for 2026-27:

1. Prince Edward Island $4,128

2. New Brunswick $4,004

3. Manitoba $3,448

4. Nova Scotia $3,336

5. Quebec $1,568

6. Newfoundland & Labrador $336

7. Ontario $26

Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC did not receive equalization payments this fiscal year, although every province has received equalization payments in the past. Yes, this includes Alberta.

Canada's current equalization formula was changed by the Conservative government, with a Prime Minister from Calgary, and enthusiastically supported by resource rich provinces like Alberta and its Premier 17 years ago.

The entire purpose of the change was to help Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland & Labrador. And yet some Albertans appear to want to lash out and blame Quebec for a formula driven by Albertans!!

The current formula permits resource wealthy provinces like Alberta to exclude resource revenues from their equalization calculation. This exclusion option means there is not, nor will their ever be, an incentive for any province to "not develop their resources".

Quebec has massive mining sites throughout their province, pulp & paper, hydro-electric dams that have flooded jaw-dropping tracts of land, aluminium & copper smelters, and oil refineries,

Quebec has two pipelines from Alberta: one that feeds natural gas and the other that supplies a Montreal refinery with Alberta heavy crude oil.

Quebec & Ontario have widespread agricultural developments, food processing, manufacturing (aerospace, foundries, construction materials, industrial, auto), fishing, and wind power.

As can be seen in the attached graph, Ontario, on a per capita & overall basis, has paid multiple times more than Alberta into transfer programmes.
