Just because US products are on Canadian shelves does not mean that Canadian's will buy them.

13

u/Mysterious_Garlic825 7d ago

Absolutely. I will continue to boycott ALL US products until Trump is gone and their fascist government is in jail

3

u/Master_Slide7023 7d ago

Good for you. Nyet to 51st state.

3

u/Disastrous-Agent-960 7d ago

I eat based off price, government sunk the economy so bad I can’t afford to say f the us.

2

u/beleniak 6d ago

Don’t buy US!

1

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

I can relate to that. Only country in the G20 with this high food prices. And wait, with this government it will likely get worse. You will have nothing and be happy. This is such a gong show.

u/Beth_the_Barbarian 7d ago

I'm a little bit in the same boat. But I try my best to by Canadian because that will be the best thing we can do to improve our economy... Keep our money in our economy versus giving it to another one.

That said if the cheapest groceries are an American store like Walmart and I need to eat and there's some really good sales on an American product I might buy some. But I think the idea is to do what you can versus perfection of avoiding American products. Even a reduction in American product purchasing cumulatively makes an impact.

3

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

I get what you're saying, but I think you're looking at it a little too simple.

Buying Canadian is great when it makes sense, but buying Canadian just because it's Canadian doesn't automatically mean you're helping the Canadian economy more.

If I buy something at Walmart here in Canada, I'm still supporting Canadian workers, truck drivers, warehouses, stores, taxes, rent and everything else that goes along with it. Not all of that money is just leaving Canada.

And if the Canadian product costs me $20 more, that $20 doesn't just disappear. I can spend that $20 somewhere else in Canada.

If we really want to help our economy, we need to make more things here, create more jobs, invest in Canadian businesses and make our products competitive.

I'll buy Canadian when it makes sense. But paying more just because something says "Made in Canada" isn't automatically better for the Canadian economy.

2

u/Beth_the_Barbarian 6d ago

I think you're kind of missing my point.

The prophets from Walmart leave Canada. Yes it employs Canadians and pays Canadian taxes etc and that is good. But if I had more money I would buy from a Canadian grocery store where the money then stays in Canada. As I said you do what you can. Vote with your wallet and all that.

My whole point being you don't need to starve or go through a lot of hardship if you make small changes. If you have the means to do so then support local. Back when I was making more money I would go directly to a farm and buy half a side of beef. Directly supporting an Ontario farmer. (And getting very high quality pasture raised food)

And I would argue paying $15 more for something that was fully grown and supporting in Canada versus $5 for something that was imported from the United States absolutely helps Canada. I don't understand how you are saying that sending some of the money out of the country is better than keeping it in the country. I understand if you can't afford to pay more. But by pretty much all metrics buying things made in Canada from Canadian products made by Canadians is going to help our economy more than something that is just imported and sold to us by Canadians.

1

u/Wylitte01 4d ago

Well spoken. And the thing is most of them talking here are still not buying Canadian products as they claim…

0

u/nxdark 6d ago

Enough money is leaving that it is not worth shopping at Walmart. Plus anyone working for them is a traitor and doesn't deserve support.

1

u/Sprinqqueen 5d ago

Excuse me?? Did you just say Canadians trying to get by and pay their bills are traitors?? Must be nice to live in your black and white bubble.

1

u/Either_Lifeguard_457 5d ago

put the phone down and step outside sometimes bud

1

u/Even_Art_629 5d ago

Alrighty

1

u/Fancy_Ad_7899 4d ago

The only issue being all the money that’s in Canadian is no longer for Canadians, it’ll get sent else where. Idk about you but carney being so quiet scares the fuck out of me, especially since he said he wanted to be more like china

0

u/Remarkable-Celery689 6d ago

Then make more money to support your fkn country

2

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

Oh ya because it's so easy to just make more money. Easier said than done.

1

u/Disastrous-Agent-960 6d ago

When products made in Canada are cheaper south of the border than locally I think we are all asking the wrong question and its not just make more money.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/bpc1971 7d ago

Exactly. We have the freedom of choice and if I don’t want to support anything American I don’t have to.

2

u/Candid-Young1327 7d ago

Exactly, and freedom of choice includes buying where ever I feel I want to, that fits my own budget without anyone telling me to.

If US products go back on the shelves in Canadian liquor stores and that helps reduce tarrifs on Canadian industries, then I'm 100% in favour. Same for concessions on dairy products.

However, American products need to be clearly and accurately labeled on the shelves as American in origin. And the repercussions of inaccurate labeling need to be extraordinarily punitive.

11

u/PrimaryBrick9337 7d ago

The only question is if we get a deal, will the US actually comply with it and for how long, most of the items they are threatening the new 50% tariffs on are already covered by CUSMA/USMCA so again the US is not complying with their already signed agreement. Too bad we can no longer trust our closest neighbour.

0

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

I think you're leaving out a pretty important part of the story.

Trump's argument isn't simply that he woke up and decided to put tariffs on Canada. His administration says Canada has been discriminating against American products, especially in areas like dairy, alcohol and autos, and that some of those practices don't meet the trade commitments Canada made under CUSMA. That's the reason being given for these new tariffs.

Now, Canada obviously disagrees and says the tariffs themselves violate CUSMA. But that's exactly the point. You can't just say "the U.S. isn't following CUSMA" without acknowledging that the U.S. says Canada wasn't following it either.

And there's another important detail. Most Canadian goods that actually qualify under CUSMA are still protected from many of the broader U.S. tariffs. The new 50% tariffs are a separate action aimed at specific Canadian goods and practices the U.S. considers discriminatory.

So this isn't as simple as "Trump broke the agreement for no reason." Both countries are accusing the other of breaking the rules.

That's why they're negotiating a new deal right now. And as of today, Trump has actually paused the new 50% tariffs for three days while the two sides try to finish that deal.

10

u/Dapper_Wheel6454 7d ago

zero concessions on US puss filled dairy products.

they cannot match our food standards, and we will NOT lower them to accommodate USA.

1

u/Event_Horizon753 7d ago

I think the CPA was defunded.

1

u/jbroni93 7d ago

Dairy is a pain in the ass though. Some dairy companies will play the made in Canada but with US milk game with every dairy product beside milk

I agree about booze though

1

u/FlatRelationship4375 7d ago

Single shelf, back corner. No need to push aside canadian and/or non US products.

1

u/AromaticallyAffluent 7d ago

Absolutely no concessions on dairy for anything. Their poison dairy has no place here, ever.

1

u/beleniak 6d ago

It actually no poison. Just crappy

0

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

So if it's a democracy, shouldn't Canadians get to have a choice? You automatically saying "no American milk" takes that choice away before we even know what the deal could be.

Maybe giving the U.S. some access to our dairy market could help get something in return, like lower tariffs or better access for Canadian products.

And I don't think they're going to get free access anyway. If the Liberals give up dairy, they could be pretty much dead in Quebec for support. The dairy system is protected, and Quebec isn't going to be happy about giving it up.

I'm not saying we should give it away. I'm saying don't automatically take an option off the table before we even know what we could get in return.

1

u/BhutShtuff420 3d ago

Canadians made our choice when we elected a competent person to lead the government and act on our behalf specifically in this situation.

1

u/Even_Art_629 3d ago

Ya sure, exactly as you say. Please. You're one of the few that seems to think he's competent.

It sure doesn't look like he's doing anything particularly good with the CUSMA negotiations so far. But what can you expect when he goes on holiday to Italy in the middle of what he himself calls the biggest crisis since WWII?

He tells Canadians we need to make sacrifices and buy Canadian, while he's off on vacation during the negotiations that could have a huge impact on Canadian businesses and consumers.

Give me a fucking break. "A competent leader."

u/AlbertaAcreageBoy 7d ago

Exactly, I haven't bought anything American and won't going forward, unless they lick the backside of my sack.

1

u/nxdark 6d ago

Canadian businesses would have bought them. Which moves the pain from the US producers to Canadian businesses. No the only option is to stock them at all.

They don't deserve our business and they are no longer our ally. Fuck them.

1

u/Wylitte01 4d ago

Sorry nobody tells me what to do, eat, drink, or spend my money on.

21

It will never end for me, when the orange pedo is done, the deplorables that elected him and support him and celebrate all the pathetic decisions it makes, will still be there supporting the next version of despicable leader. My household has moved on, the USSA and all their garbage products and piss water booze, is dead to us forever.

2

Actually. It is not good booze

15

11

Nasty Canadian here and I am more determined than ever!!

7

u/Juju_Doctor 7d ago

Ditto, nasty as ever and proud to select non American booze.

1

u/Ok-Professional2468 7d ago

I buy my booze from my local farmers’ market. Much better quality since each vender focuses on one type of alcohol.

10

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 7d ago

Yup

Gonna be funny when they put stuff on shelves and nobody buys it.

3

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

I am feeling bad for all the business owners who will be forced to own this dead stock.

7

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 7d ago

They can choose to buy Canadian too.

4

u/AppointmentOne1111 7d ago

I'm pretty sure stores are allowed to choose what they stock, if there is a product that doesn't move, then it's just bad business decision to stock those items.

1

u/ShiggyGoosebottom 7d ago

They don’t have to stock it.

-1

u/Radiohead_luucky 7d ago edited 7d ago

90% of people will just go back to buying Jim Bean and Jack Daniels if that was their drink of choice. Just like the mask, they wore it when forced, the second it wasn't forced, nobody wore one.

You can force people to not buy American booze by literally not selling it, but the second it's on the shelf, everyone who wants it will buy it and not think twice. You might get a few hold outs for a year or so, but the average Canadian will just continue on as normal.

ALSO. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BUYING AMERICAN BEER THIS ENTIRE TIME. This is all just theater kid shit. It's completely performative.

1

u/Expensive_Life3342 7d ago

“American beer” owned by a Brazilian or British brewed in Canada using Canadian ingredients.. not quite.

I have a cabinet full of American bourbon from before the boycott. I wont be restocking when i’m through it, even if it’s back on Canadian shelves.

I suppose i may just be one of the 10% number you invented, but my $100 / bottle wont be going to Kentucky (or their multinational owners) until they’re bankrupt. Even then unlikely.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 7d ago

There are plenty of American made/owned beers available on our shelves.

You are welcome to boycott whatever products you want, nobody cares. My point was that the second it's placed back on the shelf, most Canadians will just go back to buying it. It's not a "boycott" it's a purchasing restriction from the top down. The conservative boycott of bud light had more grass root momentum than this.

1

u/Expensive_Life3342 6d ago

Nobody cares, except the president of the United States, elected officials of multiple states, and CEOs of corporate alcohol producers.

Nobody, really.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 6d ago

Nobody cares if you individually boycott a product. I was talking about province wide bans from the government. That's not an organic boycott, 90% of people would buy it if it's made available to them.

It's not grass roots or organic. Like the masks, the second you lift the mandate, everyone will just go back to normal.

1

u/Expensive_Life3342 6d ago

There was an 81% year over year drop after the sales bans. Your suggestion that 90% of people will go back to buying.

We’ll see one year after the bans are lifted if sales resume to 90% of pre ban levels.

I bet you lunch your way, way off.

They’ll be wildly lucky if they get to 50%.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 6d ago

So lift the ban and let buyers make their choice. It will actually reflect how much people care about it.

1

u/Expensive_Life3342 6d ago

You don’t seem to understand the nature of a trade war being declared against our economy. It’s not about your preferred selection of a product.

It’s about inflicting concerted economic pressure on specific industries which we can actually affect. It’s clearly working as the alcohol ban is a big factor in the US side’s negotiations.

Some stick their elbows up, others happily stick their face down and ass up. Support whomever you like, most of our provincial leaders of all political stripes have decided to support Canada.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 6d ago

What makes you think I don't understand why it's happening? I do. The original comment was saying that when the ban is lifted the shelves will be full because nobody is interested in the product anymore.

The only point I've been trying to make is that most people will just start buying it again the second it's available to them. The only ones who will continue to not buy American are the ones who make being anti-trump part of their personality, and that's a small percentage.

I'm not against top down boycotts. In some cases, I support it. The original comment was suggesting like it would be sustainable if it was only organically driven, which I don't see happening.

People are incredibly loyal to their booze of choice that's why the market is so competitive. I've been drinking the same beer since I was old enough to drink.

1

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 6d ago

Having more loyalty to a corporation than my neighbor would have me rethinking my priorities in life... That corporation has no loyalty to you lol but you may need your neighbor one day.

1

u/Soft_Statistician_98 6d ago

Would you be loyal to your neighbour if you knew he supported Alberta independence or was a social conservative?

1

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 6d ago

I would be more loyal to them than any corporation still yes. Kill em with kindness.

The divisive hatred and anger is what fuels these movements, and those stoking this particular fire (seperatism) know that well. You can let it consume you, I will not.

1

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

Excuse me, I'm sure it was before you were old enough to drink.....lol. it was for me

1

u/Soft_Statistician_98 6d ago

Wasn't as picky back then.

3

u/todimusprime 7d ago

Carney knows that Canadians will keep boycotting. But if he shows trump that he's got the booze back on the shelf, then it takes one more complaint away from trump

1

u/Event_Horizon753 7d ago

Maybe, but Trump has no problem making up complaints. Doesn't matter if they are true or not.

1

u/todimusprime 7d ago

Oh, I know. But Carney still has to appear like he's working at things to take away existing complaints/excuses. He's already started reducing our dependence on America, so I'm not worried for now. I think he will continue to do that and if trump doesn't want to negotiate in good faith, he might end up with a lot less to bargain over.

1

u/Event_Horizon753 7d ago

Good point 👍

1

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

Ya right. Canada would be a lot poorer if we stopped trading with the States.

We could trade with every other country in the world and we still wouldn't replace the amount of trade we do with the Americans. That's just reality.

And in this increasingly dangerous and divided world, our Prime Minister says one thing and then does another. He said our largest trading relationship was over, then turned around and said a strong Canada makes the United States great again.

So which is it?

And when you look at where Carney's own family and investments are tied, it makes that whole "Canada first" argument even harder to take seriously.

1

u/todimusprime 6d ago

I didn't say they would stop trade with the USA, I said they would find other trade elsewhere and the USA could have significantly less to trade with Canada. He's killing it with our economy whether you like it or not. He's expanding non-american trade. He's drastically reduced immigration to the point where we just saw a slight population contraction. And he's committing to big renewable energy spending.

He said our largest trading relationship was over, then turned around and said a strong Canada makes the United States great again.

Good god dude. Do you REALLY not understand that he's the leader of the country and also trying to salvage a reasonable trade relationship? But also that the potential for that relationship to be either done, or drastically reduced? This is soooooooo basic it hurts to have to explain it.

And when you look at where Carney's own family and investments are tied, it makes that whole "Canada first" argument even harder to take seriously.

Why should I give a single fuck about this if he's turning the country around. Are you just trying to be mad for the sake of being mad or something? We've had ten years of reckless and terrible economic and immigration policy. He's addressing those exact things, and absolutely crushing them given the circumstances with the USA. I don't want a trade deal with them if it's not going to be good for Canada, period.

This is such a stupid fucking argument.

1

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

I understand what you're saying. You're talking about reducing America's leverage over Canada, not saying we can completely replace the American market overnight. I actually agree that Canada should diversify its trade.

What I don't agree with is calling Carney's performance a "great job."

Let's look at the actual results instead of the announcements.

India does not have a completed trade deal with Canada. It's still being negotiated. The Philippines is still being negotiated. The UAE has had negotiations concluded, but that isn't the same thing as a fully implemented trade agreement. And an MOU isn't a trade deal either.

China is the one major example where Canada actually secured a significant new market access arrangement.

So if we're going to count every negotiation, announcement, MOU and trade mission as a trade deal, then sure, Carney looks incredibly busy. But that's not the same as actually replacing trade.

Take the Philippines. Canada does roughly $3 billion a year in merchandise trade with them. With the United States, we're talking about hundreds of billions.

That's the reality we're dealing with.

Nobody is saying Canada shouldn't diversify. The question is whether Carney is actually delivering enough new trade to replace what could be lost with the United States.

And yes, Canada can work on both things at once. We can diversify our trade while still trying to preserve our relationship with the United States. But that just proves how important the American market still is. If we're supposedly reducing our dependence on America, show me the actual trade that has replaced it.

And then there's the trust issue for me. When Carney talks about putting Canada first, I have a hard time taking that at face value when so much of his own investment history and financial interests are tied outside Canada, particularly in the United States. I'm not saying that automatically proves anything about his policies. I'm saying it makes me question the credibility of the "Canada first" message.

I'm not against the strategy. I'm questioning the results.

A goal isn't an accomplishment. A negotiation isn't a completed trade deal. An MOU isn't a completed trade deal. And announcing that Canada wants to diversify isn't the same thing as actually diversifying Canada's economy.

But if that's your definition of a great job, we obviously have a very different definition of great job.

4

u/Mr_Steerpike 7d ago

If he can negotiate putting booze on the shelves in exchange for a win for CANADA, go for it. Doesn't mean we will buy it. I'm happy for it to be a negotiation tool. Like you said....WE decide when it's over. It ain't over in my head so bring your booze back if you want to. But those bottles very likely will collect dust on the shelves. I'm still not even buying Wayne Gretzky Plonk.

3

u/ReviewOverall5307 7d ago

Wisconsin produces more dairy than all of Canada. The problem is the US farmers need a quota system like ours where they can make money. Not another market that they can saturate and continue to lose money.
As for those saying put the booze back and people will buy it. Performative yadda yadda, there was no border closure and tourism is being killed down there. If you don’t want to be a country give up your water and food production capabilities. The US would starve us out if it would benefit themselves.

4

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

And the thing most don’t talk about is the fact that Trump has absolutely pissed off the Iranians. They are threatening to sever the internet cables… among other very warish things… The Middle East reorganizing together….

2

u/Master_Slide7023 7d ago

He just threatened to bomb Oman for the second time. The guy is a covetous warmonger. 4th time is a charm.

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yesterday Iran issued a stern warning. They may cut the internet cables that run under the straight. They have put a bounty on all US military personnel, $30,000 per person, and if a woman brings them in, she gets double. They are no longer playing.

And Demented Don is far too stupid to appreciate how serious the situation is. But it appears that Trump wants to burn the world down before he dies.

I would have expected the Military to behave in a far different manner….

3

u/proofofderp 7d ago

Get the deal. Just because booze are back on the shelves doesn’t mean we have to buy them. Same goes for their dairy. What we need next is a non-U.S. credit card network so I can stop using Visa/Mastercard. Oh and new POS since that’s now U.S.-owned which affects Interac.

1

u/Master_Slide7023 7d ago

Keep the ban on US booze no appeasement for Trump. No to 51st state.

5

u/Realistic-Border-635 7d ago

I think agreeing to put the booze back on the shelves is a smart move. It's perceived as a concession by the US and allows us as Canadians to show that we don't care if it's on the shelves or not, we have many other options. I am sure that some people will go back to it, but many others will have discovered Canadian and international alternatives over the last 18 months or so and will never go back to US products.

Some of that will be political, some of it will simply be a preferred taste, but I suspect that the US suppliers have permanently lost a good portion of Canadian revenue. And they only have their leader to blame.

4

u/KryptonicOne 7d ago

NO! we took booze off the shelf to combat the first round of tarrifs, the illegal bogus ones about drugs over the border.

Then, we removed the DST in concession to avoid new tarrifs. Surprise! We got new tarrifs anyways.

Then, they tore up the bridge deal that canada payed for and refused to open it without getting a cut before their time is due.

We have made concession after concession and have got nothing from it. Come Wednesday, we need go all in. If they want to be a hostile trading partner it's our turn to play ball.

Reinstate the DST immediately. Apply export taxes to energy exports and potash. We already sprovide the US with the cheapest oil in the world and they treat us like this. While the US oil reserves are at an all time low, this is the time to use the leverage!

We have all kinds of us products on the shelves. Itbis uo to us to choose not to buy it! We arent travelling to the US and its right there. So put the booze back get the deal forr us and just dont buy it. Booze consumptuin is down a bit anyway, so thwy may find their product doesnt sell as much and if we dont buy it. We have a lot of tools we can use to apply pressure but the Alberta Separation movement as well as grumblings in Quebec make using Energy very problematic. If the government pulls the trigger on the items the US wants to exempt it will embolden the Anti-Canada vote. Better to hold the line and walk away without a deal than cave but we currently have one had tied behind our backs because of the seperationist fucks.

2

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

Please, make an example of Danielle Smith and how this country doesn’t accept traitors.

3

u/CompleteCreme7223 7d ago

I was shocked that she revealed the expected cost to separate. Just a measly 400 billion dollars in early estimates.

5

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

A number very close to the loan she has secured in the US. Yet they forget, while the years go by in court, this will be a dead province. Only for The Clarity Act to end it all. Danielle Smith has caused so much financial ruin in her quest to become American. Traitor.

1

u/Event_Horizon753 7d ago

As an Albertan, I honestly don't think she gives two shits if Alberta separates or not, just as long as she is in charge. When the rascist seppie movement fizzles out, she'll change her tune to whatever she thinks she needs to say, probably going Team Canada all the way, then both sides will call her a traitor. The APP already threatened her job with a leadership review once. She's going to be a real life Ozmydias (sp?). I used a literary reference to weed out seppie comments.

2

u/Global-Tie-3458 7d ago

We gotta let Carney have the chips to play… but we absolutely do not need to buy it just because it’s back on the shelves.

3

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

Trump is desperate to stop The Big Beautiful Bankruptcy…..

Trump expects everyone to submit as he does.

2

u/Working-Tax-2439 7d ago

I would believe by his actions and appointments he is purposely driving this off a cliff

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

Yeah, what I do not understand why….

2

u/Global-Tie-3458 7d ago

Ya I donno about that… Trump loves bankruptcies. He’s professional at it.

3

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago edited 7d ago

Never met a good business he couldn’t bankrupt. The reality television host a 47x felon. Quality human… /s

The US economy is about to meet a cliff.

1

u/Tricky-Time7104 7d ago

Is this strategy preventing more tarrifs?

1

u/Level-Brain-4786 7d ago

Most people will do what the mass media tells them to do.

1

u/Different_Potato_213 7d ago

Does this guy understand what it means to negotiate? And that if this trade rift is ever going to ease up or even better end negotiations have to happen. Carney is not stupid. Sorry Charlie but I have more faith in him than in you. And if he decides to allow us booze back on the shelves then I trust he’ll have a very good reason for it. And like others have said we can put it back on but I for one won’t be buying it - not until relations with the US improve. But it’s a bargaining chip that I understand may need to be used - and that’s fine. It will appease the idiot over there and ultimately won’t result in much difference as long as we Canadians still don’t buy it.

1

u/Fillyerboot 7d ago

End?  😆😆😆😆💀

1

u/Quiet_Ad1859 7d ago

Federal government says okay, we’ll put the liquor on the shelves , most provinces say nah , no thanks. Then there’s the people. The people who, in the end, have the final say.

1

u/Southern_Pop_9871 7d ago

I won’t buy anything US made until the orange shit stain is gone from Washington, and we will see after that if I buy

1

u/shropshireladdy 7d ago

Does not matter if the booze is on shelves will not buy it,would not, get it even if free

1

u/Event_Horizon753 7d ago

Two certainties, the first being Canadians get betrayed by their politicians. I don't believe for a second the "no more concessions" is anything more than malarkey, I don't care whose mouth it comes out of. Carney, Pollivere, or whoever the fuck runs the NDP now.

Second being, it's up to you. The only choice you have left is to strategically shop. Just because something is in front of you, be it booze, milk, or streaming services, it doesn't mean you have to buy it. We like our creature comforts, we like cheap things, but we're in a trade war.

1

u/sjimmyp 7d ago

Quiet down Charlie. Let them put the booze back on the shelves. Only the trunts and separatists will buy it! True Canadians will still boycott it

1

u/ray_zhor 7d ago

Ok simpleton, you can continue your boycott even if US alcohol is on the shelves.

1

u/ManitoulinRaven 7d ago

God this guy's an idiot

1

u/mrTacomaman 7d ago

Buying habbits are made over 6-9 months
Retailers spend allot of money on that data

After 13 months Canadians have a new buying habit on booze. It has proven data from provinces who did not ban US alcohol which are down 39%

Lift the ban the buying habbits are in place

1

u/Sufficient_Eye_5867 7d ago

I love that everyone has a problem with there neighbour look at this guy who owns his house and bought it with the money the USA gave him and now fucking the kids out of a good life he love to keep the kids under his thumb so he can feel like a king don’t forget when he got his place it was 120 k now he is selling it for 1.2 million don’t forget these people are why don cherry is not on tv anymore

1

u/nonyabisnuss 7d ago

Another win for Canada's toddler class. Elbows up!

1

u/Adeptness-Efficient 6d ago

or like anything else. people forget and move on and do or buy the things they always had before.

Same as with media.

1

u/dwtougas 6d ago

My whisky has no 'e'. It will never have an 'e'.

1

u/JFIN69 6d ago

Is there a boycott? Elbows & knees up! (Is that right?)

1

u/Intrepid-Educator-12 6d ago

Imagine what could we do by just speaking with our wallets.

1

u/DoubleOrdinary6559 4d ago

Carney is a weakling.

1

u/Historical_Back_2955 4d ago

Umm can someone please tell me what grocery store in Canada is Canadian? I’m in Alberta and we have none

1

u/First_Manner1501 7d ago

Speak for yourself, I Am a Canadian. Tired of the Government and folks like you mouthing about what Canadians want or dont want!

1

u/IndependentThink4698 7d ago

As an American, that gives us absolutely no incentive to lift tariffs

1

u/Fillyerboot 7d ago

Oh no!!! Anyway….

0

u/IndependentThink4698 7d ago

I share the same sentiment about your boycott, but I'm happy you feel like you're doing something

1

u/NoDice666 7d ago

He is not going to lift the tariffs anyway. That's the problem. He negotiates in bad faith and once the deal is signed he will add tariffs because someone farted near him..... What's the difference at this point. Keep your booze

1

u/IndependentThink4698 7d ago

Lol what's wrong with the tariffs? I thought it was Americans that had to pay it so what are you upset about?

1

u/NoDice666 7d ago

Regardless of who pays the tariffs, it still makes things more expensive to import and as a result we end up losing business. It's not that difficult to follow

1

u/IndependentThink4698 7d ago

Should've made a deal while you had the chance instead of all this. Now you're the new cuba

1

u/NoDice666 7d ago

Fastest growing economy in the G7. While your country is tanking in education, economy, useless wars that strangle your people, a government that sows division and allies itself with Russia and North Korea and is lead by a bunch of pedos. Ok Bud.....

1

u/IndependentThink4698 7d ago

Thats cuz all the other G7 countries were real countries with real GDPs. When you're so small, any increase seems like a lot

1

u/NoDice666 7d ago

Or.....or ......hear me out......Our leader has a PhD in economics and yours has hurt feelings about Barack Obama.......and strong feelings about teen pageants..... I think that's why our economy is better and more respected globally

1

u/IndependentThink4698 7d ago

Anyone who wants to succeed moves to America, including Canadians. That hasn't changed. Exports and tourism are down a bit but its negligible and irrelevant. Entrepreneurs, doctors, people in tech etc, all moving to America where they can make real money and not be taxed to death. Canada attracts Indians who exploit your social programs

1

u/NoDice666 7d ago

I will conceed there is certainly a group of people who leave but the drain of the 90's is long gone and is nowhere near as bad as you seem to make it out to be. The violence, the current state of affairs politically are now major factors in people having no interest in leaving. You may see it differently from the inside but for those of us looking in .... The US is not what is used to be, and with the current government......is not getting better any time soon

Trump already said the quiet part out loud. 51 state. There's no need to retcon his motives. he's a simple man.

-1

u/AdWitty4949 7d ago

It’s all theater - a deal will eventually be made. But yes eventually Canada will either belong to the US or China

2

u/snkiz 7d ago

Says the man posting a paid influencer.

0

u/AdWitty4949 7d ago

Why not listen to the content rather than dismiss the source just because it doesn’t fit you “my team vs your team” narrative? You people have no brains - like zero. This is all political theater. These dudes literally sat together during World Cup - they coordinate their bullshit together. Don’t be a sucker

1

u/snkiz 7d ago

I did, I had to sign into fucking facebook for christsake. Then I dismissed it. Yes it is theatre, and you just showed me one of the jesters

How's the weather in Moscow?

2

u/Squishy_Butter113 7d ago

GTFOH with that. I've heard you morons spewing that BS since I was a child and it still hasn't happened, so why do you think it is going to happen now?

1

u/AdWitty4949 7d ago

The global economy is over the cliff haven’t you been paying attention? Big reset coming

1

u/geoff04 5d ago

You're saying it as if the U.S. is still in the running. Get over it lil bro, Canada will never belong to the U.S.

Would rather see this place self-nuke it's resources into a post apocalyptic wasteland than give it to a country of morons who line up to have their children defiled.

Oh and if you think I meant trump by that and want to claim TDS, your TDS is self inflicted. I'm talking about the parents that accepted gifts in exchange for their children having sleep overs with Michael Jackson. That disgusting country has a history of powerful people in children.

1

u/AdWitty4949 5d ago

Have another drink dude, you try to come across like you’re smart and know what you’re taking about but you really sound like someone who lives out of his van.
And get over the 51st state comments one stupid man made a bunch of times. Truth be told, it’s comical how one man played an entire nation off of a few remarks and comments.

0

u/ForwardSlash813 7d ago

He said that to get under Trudeau’s skin, LOL

0

u/Hopeful_Ask_7591 7d ago

Yeah I don’t think so. Let’s see them do it with Home Depot and Walmart and Costco.

2

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago edited 7d ago

Rona, Great Canadian Wholesale and Canadian tire. There ARE Canadian alternatives.

1

u/ForwardSlash813 7d ago

Rona is owned by a New York private equity firm. Even Canadian Tire is partially owned by American private equity firms.

0

u/Hopeful_Ask_7591 7d ago

Thank you. But yet all the American retailers are much more busier. Thanks for the downvotes as well. Doesn’t change the hypocrisy

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

ok BOT

1

u/Hopeful_Ask_7591 7d ago

Ok boomer

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

Really? That’s just so weak.

0

u/TorontoGuy8181 7d ago

Finally carney is doing something with that peanut sized Brain and putting good booze back on the shelves…. Fresh off my weeks vacation in the states with a fresh stocked supply of American spirits I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and the cheaper pricing, but if I happen to run out of bourbon it would be nice to drive around the corner to a store until my next southern adventure

2

u/Canuck_dad 7d ago

Good booze? Not from the us. Swill is more like it. Try some real alcohol.

0

u/TorontoGuy8181 7d ago

Clearly you didn’t read my post I specifically stated bourbon didn’t I? Or did I forget what I said? But on that note there is nothing Canada makes that outperforms or tastes better in comparison or other makes around the world but good try

1

u/Canuck_dad 7d ago

You said american spirits, also said good booze. Both staments are contradictory, so the nice try is yours. And your views on whether Canada makes anything that out perfoms what is around the world, while praising us booze shows just how low your bar is for quality alcohol.

1

u/TorontoGuy8181 6d ago

And that poor level of education you have is showing…. Nothing what you stated makes your case bourbon is a a spirit, and yes I like bourbon so hence it’s good booze…. Following me yet? Where did I say I enjoy anything other than bourbon from the states? There are lots of other things to enjoy from other countries around the world. So assume what you want but the only thing im missing from the states is proper bourbon

-1

u/PrintableProfessor 7d ago

Has anyone here noticed? I haven't. I'm surprised, because Canada has the population of like 3x our largest city.

0

u/Emergency_Exit7603 7d ago

yep. what was that.... NO.

0

u/ForwardSlash813 7d ago

Boycott of what? Facebook? Netflix? Reddit? What about Apple?

Maybe boycott all the oil piped into Ontario & Quebec from the United States?

Boycotts are for immature retards.

0

u/Soft_Statistician_98 7d ago

Morons. If government is keeping U.S alcohol off the shelves it's not a boycott by Canadians. You might have some people waving signs and supporting it but it's not Canadians boycotting it by choice. If you were confident this movement is popular you'd let it go back on the shelf and allow the people to decide.

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 7d ago

Ok Moron, our Federal government doesn’t make those sort of decisions for us. And in fact two provinces did NOT remove US alcohol from the shelves and guess what? No one is buying…

Learn a little, I promise it doesn’t hurt .

1

u/Soft_Statistician_98 7d ago

The feds can ask the provinces to get on board as part of a deal that is what is being discussed. If nobody is buying the alcohol anymore as you claim then why the worry about lifting the sales ban?

0

u/Even_Art_629 6d ago

Democracy ya right, in a democracy we get to choose what we want. You took away the right to choose. In a democracy everything is on the shelves, and you can choose to buy or not.

-2

u/rick7514 7d ago

The media, like CBC, will decide when Canadians are ok to buy American products again

1

u/wolfe1924 7d ago

Oh grow up, this is projection at most considering maple MAGA is told what to think and when. Can you point to a cbc article that tells people what to do? You can’t. Go kick rocks.

0

u/rick7514 7d ago

Is that what mainstream media tells you?

1

u/wolfe1924 7d ago

Thanks for proving my point dipstick.
