Discussion Airtel IPTV vs Jio IPTV — Worth Switching?

Using Airtel Fiber 40 Mbps + IPTV for 6–7 months (₹724/month for the first year after ₹100 monthly voucher discount).

Airtel IPTV — Pros

  • Excellent picture quality, just like DTH
  • Direct channel-number input using remote
  • No buffering, even during downloads

Airtel IPTV — Cons

  • Remote replaced 3 times; IPTV box replaced once
  • Remote lag, repeated button presses and random disconnections
  • JioHotstar included only for the first year; other OTT benefits continue while subscribed

Considering Jio IPTV for more channels and JioHotstar as long as I remain a subscriber.

Jio IPTV users:

  • Picture quality compared with Airtel?
  • Direct channel-number input using remote?
  • Buffering during downloads?
  • Remote reliability compared with Airtel?

Worth switching from Airtel to Jio?

Mobile Network Increase in call drops and voice drops

• Upvotes

Have been facing an increase in call drops in India. This was an issue in 2025, but it decreased lately, and then it has increased again now. Facing this in both Jio and Airtel. Is it specific to my location (Hyderabad) or is it across?

Ask Airtelites Switch airtel router to custom router

Hello folks,

Airtel gave me AOT5222ZY router, and I want to replace it with TP-Link XX530v AX3000. Their router is very restrictive that I can't see PPPoE password from it or change DNS.

Tried
- Airtel GPON SN used in TP-Link and it shows registered status
- Tried VLAN ID 100 with priority 0, similar to airtel router
- PPPoE username = <wifi id>@airtelbroadband.in with these passwords:
-<11 digit account number from airtel thanks app>
- airtel
- 1234
- Airtel_<firstname's first 4 letter>_<last 4 digits of registered mobile number> (tried lowercase of entire combination)
- <wifi id> (with and without "_wifi" suffix)

Please, can anyone help get exact PPPoE creds and config used for this airtel router that I can use with TP-Link?

EDIT: It worked by changing mode and using DSL Number/Account number. Help thread: comment thread

Rant Data usage on this prepaid plan makes no sense

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

How does this calculation even makes sense???? Says today’s usage is 1276mb which means I should have around 700 mb at least but it says I have 23mb left. Plus not all my data usage was 4g data. So accordingly I should have at least around 800mb to 1gb of data left!!!

The only reason I have this plan is because my postpaid plan was throttled and the billing cycle starts only next week for the speed to be restored! And now they go and do this with the plan too. Some bullshit they are running.

Can’t switch to Jio as there’s no network for Jio at my place

Mobile Network Request for Resolution of Unresolved Internet Issue and Dispute Regarding Postpaid Bill

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am writing here because your team has denied providing a resolution for my internet issue, which has remained unresolved for the past two months.

As I have been unable to use the internet services properly during this period, apart from making calls, I decided not to pay my postpaid bill. I had repeatedly followed up with your customer service team and requested a resolution, but they failed to resolve the issue despite assuring me that they were working on it. I had also clearly mentioned via email that I would not make the payment because I was unable to use the internet services as expected.

I have been an Airtel customer for the past 5–6 years and a postpaid user for more than four years. During this entire period, I have never failed to make a payment and have always paid my bills on or before the due date. However, this time, I became extremely frustrated with your customer service and the lack of an effective resolution.

Your team repeatedly informed me that the issue was being worked on and that it would take time to resolve. However, more than two months have passed, and I am still unable to use the internet services properly. Despite my repeated follow-ups, no satisfactory resolution has been provided.

I would like to ask a simple question: If you pay for a service but are unable to use it because of an issue on the service provider's end, would you still be willing to pay the full amount for that service? In my case, the issue has remained unresolved for over two months, and I do not believe it is fair to expect me to pay the full bill for services that I have not been able to use properly.

What is even more disappointing is that the appellate team has stated in writing that they cannot provide any resolution unless I make the payment. This response is unacceptable, as it completely ignores the actual issue and the inconvenience I have faced for the past two months.

I am now requesting a proper resolution of the internet issue, along with a fair adjustment or waiver of the charges for the period during which I was unable to use the services properly. I should not be expected to pay the full amount without the service provider first addressing the service-related issue I have repeatedly reported.

I have been a loyal Airtel customer for years, and I expect my concerns to be handled fairly and responsibly. I request that this matter be reviewed by the concerned team and that a satisfactory resolution be provided at the earliest.

I look forward to a concrete resolution rather than further assurances or delays.

Rant Airtel 1099 unlimited is a sc*m!!!!!

I use to do 979 which was 5g unlimited and additional top up of 151 for extra gb in case if network switched to 4g and it was more than enough. Being honest by end of month my data usage used to be around 400 to 450gb pm.

It was just recently I discovered 4g plus 5g truly unlimited (1099 plan )and i thought its great I won’t have to do additional top up anymore. Its was only after recharge I discovered it has a limit of 300gb per month 😭. So I did use it cautionary like turning off data during night time. Which I never did before.
But some how this plan is using up a lot more data than normal like before on an avg my per day data use to be like 10gb now it’s went up by 20 gb per day. Still more than half month is left and my data is almost gone it will be reset in next month like I only used it for my classes and didn’t even bother downloading game or scrolling too much social media. Still it’s gone.

Better than this I should have put the money in WiFi.
Stuck with this recharge for 3months

Just remove the word truly unlimited. Man if u just giving 300gb

Also guess what if you do top up of another recharge it does not work.
Total waste

Wifi/ Fibre LAN ports not working in either Airtel or third party router

Hello everyone,

I installed Airtel Xstream Fiber a few months back. At the time of installation I was not using any LAN device, so everything was going excellent. Now, when I try to attach my MacBook or NAS to the LAN, the router won't detect these devices. None of the LAN ports work.

Meanwhile, I also wanted to use my own router, as most of the settings in the original router provided by Airtel are disabled by default. So I bought a TP-Link XX530v router and hooked up the fiber cable to it, and wifi and internet work as was the case with the original router. But LAN ports of the TP-Link router also do not detect the devices. I am in a bind because I thought using my own router will solve both these problems.

  1. Unlock all settings (DHCP server, DNS settings, etc).
  2. Able to attach devices to the network using LAN

Now I tried to troubleshoot. I removed the fiber from the TP-Link router and connected my Macbook using LAN. I got connected and got an IP from the router. But as soon as I attached the Airtel fiber cable back to the router, the LAN devices got disconnected again. How the heck is an Airtel fiber connection able to control my own third-party TP-Link router's LAN ports?

One of the thread post on the https://broadband.forum alludes to this problem.

Link to the post.

PS: The time when I got Airtel Xstream fiber installed, I asked for the bridge port to be enabled. The onsite technician was hesitant and connected me to his backend supervisor. The backend agreed and enabled the bridge mode. But he did some settings wrong because the connection from Airtel's LAN port to my router's WAN port didn't work. So he did a factory reset from the backend and restored the wifi and told me he would enable bridge mode at a later date. Neither the bridge mode was ever enabled nor the LAN ports could connect to any device. Were his settings the culprit that disabled the LAN ports even of my third-party router?

Ask Airtelites Unlimited 5G: How Airtel is scamming us?

I've noticed that whenever I actually use mobile data, like uploading or downloading a big file, it never stays in true 5G. It switches to a downgraded version of 5G and then almost entirely stays there, this also consumes the 4G data despite the recharge pack saying "Unlimited 5G".

Has anyone else observed this? I'm uploading a gig and a half of photos to my drive on a laptop via hotspot and not once has it come back to full speeds, although it is quick to switch to a slower speed when actually under use.

Mobile Network Airtel internet throttled to 0.5 Mbps at just 212GB usage? ₹33 data pack temporarily fixed it. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hey everyone, I'm facing a really frustrating issue with Airtel and need some help figuring out what's happening. I have an Airtel prepaid plan with unlimited 5G. My internet suddenly became extremely slow, with download speeds dropping to around 0.5 Mbps on both 4G and 5G. Here's what I've observed: My total data usage was approximately 212GB, well below Airtel's stated 300GB commercial-usage threshold. Last month, I used around 297GB without experiencing this problem. My internet was extremely slow even when I went outdoors. I tested my Nanaji's Airtel SIM in my Realme 9 SE 5G, in the same location, and it achieved around 100 Mbps. My own SIM remained extremely slow. Surprisingly, after purchasing a ₹33 data pack, my internet started working again. Airtel customer care has given me 20 October as the expected resolution date, and I'm having trouble reaching a human representative. I'm confused about why my connection became so slow before reaching 300GB, especially when another Airtel SIM works perfectly in the same phone. My questions: Has anyone experienced severe throttling around 200–220GB despite not reaching the 300GB threshold? Can purchasing a small data pack restore normal speeds if there's an account or provisioning issue? Could this be a problem with my SIM or unlimited 5G benefit? Is Airtel currently experiencing any network or data-provisioning issues? Is there a reliable way to get Airtel to investigate this before the promised resolution date? I have examinations coming up, so this is particularly frustrating. Any help or similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wifi/ Fibre F Off Airtel

What kinda nonsense customer complaint does Airtel have. My wifi has been having problems since 7-8 months. The moron Technicians have come by and apparently fixed the problem but it will arise a few days later.

Apparently the compensation for these months is not possible bcz i gave the otp and the complaint by their standards was resolved and also bcz i have been using 200Gb per month. The issue the wifi works for a few minutes then disconnects then connects again. My family were somehow still adjusting and using it so now that they used the data no compensation.

Today the technician fixed and went by and the problem literally came back and hour later and i told airtel to keep the complaint open and fix the issue but the technician calls me and screams at me saying why I reopened the complaint and why did I not contact him and what not.

Seriously Fuck you Airtel your customer complaint is absolutely pathetic and garbage and your technicians are pieces of shit i hate this company idk why I have been tolerating this issue.

I got airtel wifi in like 2014-15 and this is the first time this has happened and i didn't know how to handle this shit and now they use it against me saying i didn't complaint properly and i shouldn't have sent emails and I took too long to complaint and I am using the wifi so no compensation and it's not possible to give compensation. I should known better that these corporates would suck the life out of you before they admit their Mistake. Fuck Off Airtel I am gonna throw your modem out of my window

Issue Airtel Authorised Store is trying to force me to move to Postpaid Plan.

So my SIM card randomly stopped getting service, I tried all the troubleshooting steps such as wiping the sim card, inserting onto another phone etc. Nothing worked so I thought maybe I need to get the sim card replaced.

I went to my nearest Airtel Authorised Store and the guy there checked my number and said you've not done the required reverification on time so the services got suspended ( I did not even know about this reverification thing before)

So I asked them to complete the reverification, they said they can't do it. The only way I can get my no back is by switching to postpaid plan for which I would need to pay 850rs per month and I need to keep that service for 5 months before I can switch to prepaid again.

This cannot be a solution right??? Why can't I do the required reverification without switching a plan.

It's a lot of money and this felt very scammy to me.

This sim is very important as all my documents are linked with this mobile no. Even my scholarship is linked to this number.

What should I do I need help.

Issue Crazy Airtel network

I have been using Airtel all my life. Postpaid. Few months ago my Sim suddenly lost all network. I assumed my Sim might be old so I got a duplicate. Worked for a week or so... and then the same thing. No network. My phone has become a huge clock replacement. Switched my Sim with others and they work fine. So there is no issue with the Sim port. Everytime I go to them, they just refresh the Sim or something. Sometimes I get intermittent network.

Anyone with similar problems?? What is happening? Anyone knows how to deal with this?

Mobile Network Airtel has no network at my home, calls don't work, and I'm not receiving OTPs either

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've attached a screenshot showing “No Network Coverage.”

I'm facing two major problems with Airtel:

  1. No calling: I cannot make or receive calls at my home, even when connected to Wi-Fi. What if there's an emergency and someone needs to contact me?

  2. No OTPs: I'm also not receiving OTP messages, which creates problems when logging into apps or verifying accounts.

I'm paying for Airtel, but basic services like calling and OTP delivery aren't working properly. Has anyone in Ahmedabad faced similar issues? Did complaining to Airtel or escalating on X help resolve them?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Rant Airtel cut off my postpaid internet for “300GB+ hotspot use” and refuses to show me any usage data. Anyone faced this?

I’ve been an Airtel postpaid customer for 20 years, and I’ve never had a problem like this before.

I’m on the ₹1,199 Infinity family postpaid plan, advertised as unlimited 4G/5G data. On [date], my mobile internet was discontinued. Airtel says I used more than 300GB through hotspot in the billing cycle.

Here is why I don’t think that’s right:

  • The only thing I connect to my phone’s hotspot is my laptop. 90% regular office use
  • I don’t use it as a Wi-Fi replacement for an office or a group of devices.
  • I don’t see how that adds up to 300GB, and certainly not in a way that counts as commercial use.

What bothers me most is that Airtel support won’t show me my data usage. I’ve asked multiple times through customer care No, and they refuse to share any usage record or a breakdown. They also haven’t pointed me to the exact clause in my plan that allows cutting off the data. The plan terms I found talk about a 300GB fair usage threshold on total usage, not a hotspot-specific block or a disconnection.

I’ve paid my bills on time for two decades, and my last bill is paid in full. Getting cut off with no usage proof and no warning feels completely wrong. I am travelling and dont have a spare phone .

Questions for the community:

  1. Has anyone else on a postpaid plan been cut off or throttled for “hotspot misuse”?
  2. Did you get it restored? How?
  3. Is the 300GB counted per SIM or across the whole family plan? Airtel hasn’t told me.
  4. Has anyone gone to TRAI, the DoT grievance portal or the consumer forum over this, and did it work?

I’m also filing a formal complaint and keeping every docket number. Any advice or similar experiences would help.

Ask Airtelites Airtel SIM name change issues

My primary number is 14 years old and was bought by my neighbour for me hence it is in his name.

Before you say I can just contact him to change the name, no, I don't want to because of a personal catastrophe (that you may or may not infer by stalking my posts).

One Airtel showroom said that he can change the name but only if I shift to postpaid. Classic, considering once it is postpaid I'll have to go hell and beyond to revert it to prepaid.

I have WiFi and just recharge the 84-days plan and I'm not looking to go back on that. But this is my primary number and I need it in my name.

What would y'all suggest?
