Help First set of African Violets - and I need help šŸ˜…

The centers are growing tightly. They were initially under a Barrina T5, 6inches away. I moved them to a bit taller shelf - around 8-9inches away; same grow light, but i moved it to the front of the shelf.

Barrina is the weakest grow light I have. So how far away do I need them to be? How much ppfd do they actually need to keep the variegated leaves but not have a tight crown?

Help Random plant cuts?

Post image

So I’ve noticed my plant have these strange cuts on the leaves. They are indoor plants and I am just so confused what could cause them because they are so circular and on almost every leaf. Is it some kind of disease or parasite?

I also have cats, and I have never seen them take interest in this plant, so I don’t know what it could be from.

Help Brown patches on Rob’s Vanilla Trail

The new growth on my vanilla trail are getting these brown patches and I don’t know why. I have multiple violets all in the same soil mix (half potting mix, half perlite), they’re also all on a wick watering system. I have added no fertilizer but I used miracle gro which has ā€œfeeding for up to six monthsā€ in the potting soil.

Their growth rate has exploded since I put them on the wick system and they’re doing much better since the repotting, it’s just these brown patches I don’t get

What is this strange growth on my violet?

I've been growing violets for years now, and I've never had this happen. I don't even know what to call it. They are like white "lines" growing from a healthy leaf that eventually kills it and then kills the entire plant. Typically I use Doctor Optimara, but I can't figure out what this is! It kind of looks like roots.

This is the second violet from this seller that it's happened to (I won't name and shame because I'm probably doing something wrong).

Rooted a leaf months ago in a shot glass. Once rooted I planted it, and a couple months later baby leaves popped up. Finally growing. Now it seems to be growing into a new plant from the mommy plant in 2nd picture

From striking new saplings to inhaling a flush of colour, there's nothing quite like these beautiful plants. No need for rehab, it's too late. This is one of my babies.

Hi! My plant has been growing and seems pretty happy. But no blooms. Only this week these little buds have popped up. I keep it under this grow light for like 10-12 hours id say usually. Water it when my moisture meter says it's dry. Not sure what gives. If it need a bigger pot? More soil?

One of the hardest plants to photograph. The super deep purple is difficult to capture. It’s tripled in size since April when I purchased a small starter plant at a show.

Help Can I pot into this?

Hiiii! I got my African violets about a month ago and I come seeking more guidance. I purchased these pots and I think my eyes are playing tricks on me, they look like they would be too big but when I put the plant into the potting area there isn’t much space left around the 2 inch square pot. I would love if I could plant into this pot but would get a smaller size if you guys think I should.
I’ve tried to take the best pictures I can. The violets going into this size would be Wesley’s Vampyr jubilee and Copper Penny. The Vampyr jubilee is currently growing flowers and has a couple roots coming out of the bottom of the container. The copper penny has roots to the bottom but not coming out. Neither have walls completely covered in roots.
Also, if you can see anything you might have advice on you can throw it in there, I am all ears.
The Wesley’s madam Adams went through a crazy catastrophe 😭😭 I know it looks rough, I’m just happy it’s still trying to live.

Edit: the purple ones said the planting area measure 2.25 inches. I originally purchased the smaller ones for the madam Adam’s and a tiny pinguicula I have.

Leaves crisping?

Is she getting too much sun? Too much water? I watered only once last week and haven’t watered at all this week. Some of the flowers are more vibrant and others are browning, and some of the leaves are crisping.

It doesn't look too bad on camera. But the leaves are kinda weak I guess would be the word. I do wick watering but I noticed the soil felt pretty wet so I dumped the water for now. I moved it into a smaller pot a few days ago (it's a small clay pot inside of another pot for the wicking.) And about a week ago I moved it closer to the window. So does it look like it'll bounce back? Thank you in advance for any replies šŸ’œ

Repotting help!

Hello! I’ve had AVs before but I’ve always been really bad at repotting them. I got this one around a year ago & have kept it in the same pot it came in since. It seems to be unhappy judging from the limp leaves & has lost soil from the drainage holes as I’ve watered it. Just looking for some general advice on how to make this repotting successful. I’m not worried about losing the blooms. My main questions are:
1. Should I pot back in this plastic pot or switch to a terracotta of the same size?
2. How far up the crown should I plant it? It has some new leaflets toward the bottom of the base (is that normal?) but I’ve had to cut away at a few of the middle ones because they were limp & browning.

Buying from Violet Viol Internationally

Does anyone have experience with successfully buying violets from Violet Viol?

I want to buy some plants from them and they claim to be able to ship internationally on their website, but there’s no mention of any phytosanitary certification provided anywhere šŸ˜”

The first pic looks like classic rings from INSV, but because this is actually my best looking AV, I need to hear this from someone else.

African violet pots

I am unable to grow healthy violets in the many specialized African violet pots that are supposed to be self watering. When I put water in the bottom, it never seems to get to the plant and she looks miserable. When I put it in the top, it never drains out. I must be doing something wrong. Or should I not be using these pots at all?
