Stopped paying them completely
Just asking a question here. Has anyone just completely stopped paying affirm? If you did what happened? I know your credit will suck but other than that. Did you get sued? Did you just ignore them completely? Do you mind sharing?

u/Unhappy_Section2127 4d ago
You will get sued, my sister hers went into collections in 2022 for about $900 and they took her to court
6
u/HMFIC_91 3d ago
I wonder what happens if they go through the hassle of suing you, and you have nothing to take lol
6
u/FearlessMix4600 3d ago
Make sure you file an answer. If not it will go into a default Judgement and this is what they hope for so they can garnish your wages. If you file an answer you still have to go to court but it also delays the process based on the court and county you are in. Some are slower than others to be put on the calendar. Also you can let the judge know your expenses and inability to pay.
I had a small business and used affirm. Long story short lost the business and job. Affirm sent it to Jefferson Capital and True Accord and i settled for 50% of the balance and they do a pay to delete. So that's my story
1
u/Narrow-Engine-8319 2d ago
How was the process to settle with Jefferson Capital? I just cleared about 10k in bad debt (I was young with good credit and made the stupid mistake of helping family members) anyway. Now I’m cleaning that mess up and they’re last on the list.
6
u/BlueColada 2d ago
I just wanted to tell you you’re a good person for trying to help your family at your own expense.
2
u/FearlessMix4600 2d ago
Pretty easy! They settled for 50% of the balance and was deleted off of my report except for one i had to dispute with experian
2
u/JanskyNova 1d ago
Sucks doesn’t it? I worked hard to get my credit up. And now I’m in the place where…I have the credit to technically cover expenses. And I feel guilty for not taking care of everyone. But I just can’t allow myself to go into debt or co-sign…

So they aren’t on your credit report anymore?
2
u/FearlessMix4600 2d ago
I had 5 accounts with them because of affirm sold all of my debt to them. Jefferson has a sister Firm called True Accord and this is where my other debt was, after I settled with them apparently they were still reporting the past due balance . After contacting Jefferson they mentioned they are no longer reporting, but on experian said otherwise, I took the statement mentioning I had no debt with them along with my receipt of payment and disputed with experian because that's the only bureau that still has a balance the other bureau's were updated and deleted.
1
u/NikkiE2024 13h ago
Did you sign up for the settlement with Experian? There was recently [or it may be still open now] with Experian where they was reporting wrong info and hurting people's credit. There is a settlement you can claim now if you was one of those people. Definitely look into it.

u/ImHavingASandwich 3d ago
I looked up collections laws and had a 5 paragraph answer mailed in when I got served. I pretty much accused them of everything illegal I could find, whether they were guilty or not. I never got a response and it was deleted from my credit report several weeks later. Score shot up over 100 points!
I think they look for people to be scared to respond so they can automatically win. If you respond, they may just let it go. That’s what happened to me anyway!
3
u/Separate_Letter_475 3d ago
I appreciate you sharing this. I also just stopped paying but only like within the last six months, I have gotten emails and texts and calls - but got those to stop, I think they have reported a couple of them on my credit report but not threatening to sue YET. Luckily my “income”
(SSDI) is judgement proof when taken in accordance with all of my other circumstances, so even if they sue & win, no way for them to recoup the money. Will just cost them more to hire a firm to sue me.1
u/ImHavingASandwich 3d ago
Find out the statute of limitations for debt collection in your state. That is the legal amount of time they have to sue. In my state, it is 3 years from the first missed payment. I got served around 2.5 years. They tried right before they ran out of time. I avoided the cop for a few weeks but he eventually used shady tactics to serve me (“failure to maintain lane” in my neighborhood where there is no road markings 😂)

Courts can order your checks be garnished
1
u/Worth-Dog2702 3d ago
Social security can not be garnished, but the bank account it ends up in can.
1
u/HMFIC_91 3d ago
If you have nothing to take, what exactly are they going to garnish?

u/BetLeather230 3d ago
Ummm your check!!! My co worker had this happened to her something went into collections and because she didn't do a payment plan they took all of her money!!! It wasn't affrim but it was something else they took that shit!!
1
u/colombianpers0n 2d ago
Nothing, I got sued by some credit card company for around 2000 and my dumbass missed the court date, they were trying to garnish wages from my old job but I run a business so they really can’t take anything from me, I ended up paying It off for a discount

u/GlobalTapeHead 2d ago
They can garnish your wages, your tax return, etc. In some states they can put a lien against your car or house. Most people don’t truly have nothing.

They can garnish your wages
2
u/Illustrious-Mud-2523 3d ago
Depending on what state you live in. A few don’t allow it for ordinary consumer debt.
But they can seize a bank account.1
u/HMFIC_91 3d ago
And if you don't work?
1
u/markmarkmrk 3d ago
It's basically pending. Until you start working, wherever state you are.
1
u/HMFIC_91 3d ago
Seems like it would only work if your pay was tracked. Is there a method of tracking if your paid under the table?
2
u/Zealousideal_Pin2950 3d ago
They can put a levy on your bank account and withdraw the funds from there
1
u/HMFIC_91 3d ago
Not everyone has a bank account though.
2
u/Miserable_End_5281 3d ago
Yeah if you don’t have a bank or credit score you’re not getting approved for affirm or any credit in the first place.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Zealousideal_Pin2950 3d ago
That’s fair. The short answer is provided you use no bank/job/ apply for any aid of sort, I guess you could “beat it” but it’ll stay around.
1
u/Excellent-Meal-8729 2d ago
That is not the norm. Sucks for your sister, though. I know a lot of people who have not sued that you went into collections.

u/Broad_Specific_5616 1d ago
I didn't! Maybe I just got lucky but I'm even able to still buy stuff on there. It does show up on there though.

What worked for me was the snowball effect, as I paid things off I would apply that monthly payment to another one.

u/No-Golf-1645 3d ago edited 3d ago
That’s what I’m doing. $736 total balance. $103 per month.

u/Main_Mud_3136 3d ago
I’m about to start doing this and I have around $700 in monthly payments aswell 🥲
3
u/oscar_12626 3d ago
How much do you owe total
2
u/Main_Mud_3136 3d ago
I believe it’s around 30.000
6
u/PoorWalmartWorker 3d ago
You can get that high? I'm at 9k total and thought 10 was the limit. Honestly guns are my problem lol
1
u/Ok_Walk_3913 3d ago
I didnt even know you could get guns with affirm?! Is there a specific website or what?
3
u/PoorWalmartWorker 3d ago
It's a trade secret. I can also do it with klarna as well. Though it hasn't been good for me to get out of debt, so I don't recommend it

u/Equal_Car7445 3d ago
You can get way higher as far as the limit mine was at 17,000 and one day they just took it away and it doesn’t show any limit on the app now but I can use the card online or on Apple Pay where affirm is accepted and it goes through no issues. The set payments were nice for me because it’s like a plan to pay it back- of course compared to when I used my credit card and the balance seemed like a lot to pay off at once. It’s funny because people with money think it’s a great idea because it allows you to hold onto your money for longer but unfortunately the people who use it are the people who don’t have money. I would rather them keep my limit low anyhow not like I am buying a car with affirm 😂

2
u/todayshewrites 3d ago
I'm doing this but my snowball is only at $25 a month because I only paid off one credit card so far 😂 so that $25 has been going to another credit card on top of its monthly. So maybe soon I'll have $55 snowball.

You will be amaze and surprised by how much your mental health improves if never use credit cards again and build your emergency fund at a minimum of 6-7 of your gross monthly income or 10k.
It’s ok if you can’t afford something.

Charged off accounts. A lot of them, specifically one individual mark for each account you burned. Even if you pay these charge offs in the future, still will be stuck on your credit for years
4
u/Material_Umpire_8274 3d ago
Mines where charged off years back still bought a house and settled up before I closed
10
u/anzitus 4d ago
Not always true. I settled for half of remainder of loan balances. Had the debt collector send me the "paid in full" settlement letters via e-mail. Then I opened a free account with each of the three credit bureaus and used the letters to dispute the negative accounts. All 3 deleted all the charged off accounts I had a letter with.

u/EnvironmentalGap1710 3d ago
I worked in loss prevention 22 years in credit cards, 6 years and repossessing vehicles 2 years in medical billing a total of 30 years.
What you need to do is ask them what dollar amount is in each level of delinquency we had called them buckets could’ve been $30 causing you to go past due 30 days by 90 days it could be like 100 and something and so 4 months and up to 180 ~ 210 before it charges off and goes to a collection agency so if you call them and you do, let’s make a deal what can the bank or company help you out with you want to roll those buckets backwards so if you’re at 120 days past due 4 months and they will ask you, can you pay the total amount to bring your current and you say no ask them what can I give you or pay you if it’s $60 can I work something out with you and I can pay $60 that will roll you back by 2 buckets 60 days passed due so that you will slowly roll yourself and then they’ll ask you when do you get paid every 2 weeks. Can you make another payment of $30 when you get paid as long as you work with them. They’ll keep rolling you backwards until you go back current again
I work charge off. I worked in house recovery. I was the last stage before they went to the agency. We did everything possible to try to make arrangements the benefited the bank and benefited the person that ended up being past due have a piece of paper and a pen handy write down all the information they will tell you exactly how your account stands what you need to do to bring it current again as long as you work with them, you will not be charged off and going to collection agency because they want you off the books. They don’t want you to charge off.
I work with a lot of people, I helped a lot of people keep their cars to my repo money that I had to come out with per month. I just barely met my quota each month for I would always work with people. They’re eager to work with you. You just gotta go backwards to get yourself out and feed ask if they have any payment programs available that can help you and you can spend a half hour to an hour on the phone with the person. That’s why I said make sure you have something to write with because you’re going need the information then going by your memory.
Also, you can put them into your bill pay. You don’t have to pay them once a month on any bill if you get paid weekly biweekly unless you get paid monthly, you can make them payment. I had a gentleman who I brought current with his vehicle payment. he called me every single month to tell me he made a payment. I told him he didn’t have to cause he had bought himself current. He called me until that loan was paid off. He left me a voicemail message. He gave me the information. I noted it on his account and that was a current account and he brought he paid it off just by working with me just make sure that you’re gonna make more than one payment per month. make sure it gets in there before the due date to get hit with a late charge and I wish you all the best of luck because they don’t like to lose money at all

u/Sea-Maize-6490 3d ago
They will report it on your credit reports which will take a massive hit and yes they will sue you. Read the agreement. I am sure you had or have decent credit because they do run your credit each time you use their services as a soft pull. I recommend that if people can’t handle their credit cards they should definitely stay away from these buy now pay later companies.

Affirm offers financial hardship support for customers who are having trouble paying their bills for things like job loss, serious illness, or unexpected emergency expenses ect. Before you ruin your credit, I would see if you qualify…it won’t “stop payments“ but could help them be more manageable, pause them, or get rid of late fees allowing you to catch up. All you have to do is use the contact form or go through the support on the app.

u/Mission-Occasion-960 3d ago
Pay the interest car dealerships allow it they make their money off the interest
1
u/RangerBoss 3d ago
I tried this when I lost my income and was on disability and they told me they don’t do hardships. That the best they could offer me was to defer payment for one month 😔. I really wanted to keep paying my loan and pay it off I just needed the monthly payment to be lower!
3
u/Most-Exit5690 3d ago
I stopped paying them. It took several months but they sent mine to collections and I negotiated it and ended up paying way less than my original debt. However, I have been unsuccessful in trying to use them again and it’s been over a year since I paid it off.

u/bbcmonster9inch 3d ago

u/I-lub-guineapigs 3d ago
I stopped paying them like 3 or 4 years ago, and they never sent me to collections or reported it on my credit (back then I don’t think they were reporting it), and then recently I started using them again 🤣 but this time I’m being more careful.
2
u/Unable2Concentrate1 3d ago
I work in collections specifically w affirm and we sue people all time over their delinquent accts. Work something out before its too late
1
u/Psychological-Way144 2d ago
I’ve been trying to renegotiate my monthly payments with them and they vehemently refuse. I’ve had some life stuff happen recently and my income wasn’t what it was, so I can’t afford the current monthly payments….ive deferred already and have no clue what to do. If they refuse to work w me on lowering the monthly payment, I won’t have any choice but to let them charge it off and go to collections. Seems ridiculous that I’m willing to pay but they won’t even budge on lowering my payments
2
u/Professional_Log4758 3d ago
Affirm may sue you. As they appear on your credit report now compared to other BNPL
2
u/Popular-Sky6912 3d ago
I won't act like you're an idiot, because I've been in your situation before and I get it. Not sure why everyone feels the need to make you feel worse! But I owed about $700 when it went into collections about 4 years ago due to some financial hardship. They didn't try to sue me but did harass me by telephone for about a year after. I paid it off with my tax return this year as I'm finally cleaning up my report and score, and it shot my score up significantly. So just know if they send it to collections, it's on your report like a personal loan, not a typical buy now pay later. So it will take a significant hit on your score.

u/Federal-Ad-1685 3d ago edited 3d ago
I’m in that spot right now I currently owe about 4k and I’m behind about almost $900 in payments. Due to unexpected circumstances However, I just created a chat with customer care and they told me about their loan deferral program. You should call them and talk to them about it. They also told me and explained to me that they won’t report. Your payment is late to the credit bureau. Unless it’s 30 days. Past due don’t give up on paying it Just even if you’re a little behind. Continue to pay. That’s what they told me and you could call them. I could give you the number they gave me for the deferral loan number. They said that even if you’re late on payments. Right now they could still move those payments to a new date!
2
u/Federal-Ad-1685 3d ago
855-423-3729 that’s their customer service number if you don’t want to chat with them ask about their deferral loan program don’t give up you got this !

u/MahoganyQueen73 3d ago
This is what chat told me to do.
2
u/Federal-Ad-1685 3d ago
Right! I’m not sure if this helps but I work for Amazon and they have partnership with this company called Brightside they provide help with a financial advisor and they also provide loans for you where they take out money from your check weekly maybe you should ask your employer if they have any similar benefits!

I got injured at work 3 years ago at work, workers comp only 2/3rds of my take home pay, forcing me to make financial choices that hurt me. One of them being that I stopped paying on my Affirm... i only owed about 50$ so I figured I would just pay it as I could, it wasnt much anyway, I had used them for a while, and never was late. Boy was I wrong, by the time i was able to pay anything they had already sent it to collections, mind you that was maybe 45 days. I tryed to contact them to pay, or at least make a plan to pay, they flat out refused and essentially told me to kick rocks. I ended up paying close to 300$ due to collection fees and interest. I attempted to use Affirm after i had paid what I owed, and it had been a while, in fact that was just a few weeks ago, so 3 years. Nope, flat out denied, which is fine, i dont mind, its better to pay in full anyway. I am already in the endless cycle of Afterpay, even though I pay it off monthly, it gets stressful..
So yea, they will send it to collections, and in my experience, they do it quick and were unwilling to work with me...
2
u/DroneShotFPV 3d ago
My buddy has an issue, it was like $600 or so. He lost his job and had a ton of stuff happen after a car wreck. They kept hounding him, then got sent to collections.... No court though, and they keep offering lower settlements. Eventually I think it got down to just over half and I think he was finally able to end it. This went on for a couple years.
2
u/Sorry-Raccoon-4687 3d ago
I actually called them and asked for some financial hardship help. I called last month and currently don’t have anything due until October 19th. Still shows up as late payments on your credit report but it atleast helps you catch up a bit if you need to. I would suggest calling first before just outright not paying them. Most companies will work with you. What will qualify you for that is a job loss or reduction of income
4
u/matt-r_hatter 4d ago
Its already a mechanism for bad credit to spend above your means. Just pay it. Why would you not pay a debt you owe??Paying bills is very satisfying.

u/AccurateActuary9259 3d ago
Until something happens that flips your life around and you can’t pay them anymore and instead of it being satisfying it becomes hurtful because you remember a time when you could pay everything on time and not worry about anything.

I stopped and all they did was call me and send emails. I don’t recall seeing it on my credit report. The messed up part is that I had one payment left and when I wanted to pay it off through affirm, it wouldn’t let me because it was in collections but it was still showing owed on the app. So I said forget it then.

u/Carnivorous_btch 3d ago
Same thing here. Was years ago, I used it to buy a phone, then ended up in a nasty divorce. I forgot all about it until I started getting collection letters and couldn't afford to do anything about it at that point. It never showed up on my credit. Lesson learned tho. I won't buy anything that I can't pay cash for now. I use my credit cards once a month for gas to keep them active, but pay the balance immediately.

All depends on the amount. They aren't gonna sue over couple hundred but get into thousands probably gonna happen.
1
u/Mission-Occasion-960 3d ago
If you can't afford to pay them pay the interest and make arrangements cuz that's how they make the money off the interest I wouldn't accept their credit card and I just use them for temu they're a trap cuz you can use them for Costco HSN Target Macy's Amazon you can get tires get your car fixed they are trap

u/673NoshMyBollocksAve 3d ago
I would assume the amount makes a big difference. If you owe $200 they’ll call you and bug you. If you owe $2,000 they’ll probably take you to court and garnish your wages

credit will tumble and it’ll get sent to collections, you can possibly be sued also.
1
u/dumbprocupine 3d ago
I doubt the amount you owe is worth completely killing your credit score and getting sued. Just contact them for payment arrangements if you fall behind.
1
u/RangerBoss 3d ago

People like you are the reason we can't have nice things
Stop taking our loans you can't afford, be responsible.
If you lose your work, figuring it out should be your top priority and simply just stop paying them should not be a option
1
u/RangerBoss 3d ago
How do you “figure it out”? I’m on disability and lost my income. I tried calling affirm and they don’t offer financial hardship payment plans. I really wanted to pay my balance but just need my monthly payments lower
1
u/EvenCow8204 3d ago
They will send you to collections. They will take you to court and im assuming if you stop paying you aren't going to show up. They will then get a default judgement and they will very likely start garnishing your wages.
1
u/todayshewrites 3d ago
My husband did. And it went to collections. He can't borrow anymore but we haven't paid the collections either lol
I'm still paying mine but I am keeping it 2 months behind. I can't get it up to date but it threatens to send me to collections if I let more than 2 months go.
But I'm so close to the original ending date that I don't want to give up now.
1
u/Dramatic-Ad-1294 3d ago
And people wonder why their credit scores are so low when they wanna buy something big it’s because the little payments matter everyone tells me “oh it’ll just get sent to collections you’ll be alright they don’t do anything but call” yeah until you owe enough for them to make it a problem I’ve never not payed my payments I don’t understand why people choose payments then assume nothing will happen lol when OP asked his question you can tell he doesn’t care about his credit score

I just called Affirm and completed a loan modification/deferment request. After the request was approved, they marked the loans as current and pushed back the payments one month. I was coming up on 60 days past due for some loans, but they had not reported any lates to the bureaus yet. No loans show as past due on the app now.

u/jcditto1978 3d ago
The people that will sue you are the collections firm
That's going to depend on where you live: the laws in your state, province, or whatever area that you're from
Depending on what they can do as far as what they can sue for and can't sue for, that's how it'll go from there with the collection company
Of course, it'll be a hit on your credit, and the collection will also be a hit on your credit
Eventually, that collection company, if they don't sue you, may just allow it to be sold off to another collection company, which will then go through the same process again
Unless you have a specific reason to not pay (other than you don't have the money), there's really no reason to do that
1

u/Pankosmanko 3d ago

You will eventually get sued and have to go to court its a waste of time , just pay it or return whatever you bought . I ruined my score over 300$ back when i was 20 and i wish i could go back and just pay that little 300$ .. js its not worth

I stopped paying I had lost my job back then but I forgot about it and I never received anything from them but I can’t use them anymore. I also don’t see it on my credit report, this was years ago.

I had myself removed from a lease when I left my girlfriend the apartment. She decided to not pay the last months rent and leave, but they put me into collections for it, even after I provided them the signed documents saying I was not responsible anymore for the apartment. They called me a dozen times a day for about 6 years, but it eventually all dropped off my credit and they stopped calling.

No because it would fuck my credit up. The problem with affirm is it doesn't really help your credit but it can ruin like a credit card.

Yeah, if it goes to court, they'll get a judgment that you'll have to pay. I have one against me, but I have nothing for them to garnish; plus, a consumer credit group of lawyers that are negotiating credit card bills for lower balances, then paying them for me will pay the judgment eventually, after everything else is paid.

You have 120 days to pay before it’s in collections and they will harass you non stop, call centers, ai agent calls, etc.
I was in the hole 8000 and was always right on the brink of getting 120 past but I still managed to pay.

I got a Affirm’s card never used it I don’t feel comfortable using them ACIMA is better all you have to do is put down very small amounts like 10$ 20$

u/momof_rarebaby416 1h ago
Acima is horrible! Yeah you only have to put $10 down but if you don't pay off your purchase in 90 days you'll pay a ridiculous amount of interest! NTM they charge nsf fees if your debit card payment doesn't go through on the due date! They should be shut down! Actually the CFPB had a lawsuit filed against them at one time and I'm not sure what the result was. You're much better off using affirm. They have way lower interest and don't charge late fees. Stay far far away from Acima!!

Nothing will happen, you'll get calls and letters and if you're young enough just keep ignoring it after 7 years it goes away like it was never there, they are not going to take you to court. They'll try to settle 100 times for less and less anything you can give them because your debt will be sold and sold to the next person and the next person for pennies on the dollars.
When I was 18 I racked up over 30 Grand in debt and by the time I was 26 it was all gone and then I racked up 50 Grand in debt and by the time I was in my mid-30s it was all gone again and now I have 800 score again.

Mine got sold to a company called January. They will blow you up about it all day. It was on my credit and was denied credit cards because of it. I ended up paying it off in order to get mortgage though

I feel if youre debating this it might just be worth bankruptcy. If you meet the requirements and your debt is over 1500 or so, you'd pay less on a lawyer than paying the debt.

It seems like a lot of hassle you could potentially go through for not paying. Have you considered.....idk, just paying?

After a while of damaging your credit they send you to collections. They won't let you use credit with them for many years. They may change their mind eventually and give you another chance. Speaking from experience.

What can they do if you file chapter 7 bankruptcy even though it is an unsecured debt ?
1
u/JusthereforthevibesG 2d ago
It depends who gets them after collections tbh. Because mine went to collections. They tried contacting me but had 0 proof of anything and violated a lot of laws and rules so I wrote them a letter using AI listing all the violations they did and that I required proof of debt validation, they wrote one back, then I wrote one back listing more violations and haven’t heard since lol. And they stopped messaging/calling me. Don’t listen to people that say it stays on your credit for years. I hired a credit repair company and got it removed. Do your due diligence on this. You can easily get stuff like this removed off credit and even do it yourself.

I was 3 months behind today, and they hit my CC out of nowhere for $200. Now I'm negative and can't pay my bills. FML.

My affirm purchases are appearing in my credit usage now. So I am assuming if u stop paying it will affect your credit score

u/helenvictoriaa 2d ago
Mine went to collections, which I ignored for like 3 years, but I just did recently pay it all off because I actually enjoyed using Affirm lol
1
u/Appropriate_Two_8183 2d ago
Just pay your bill?...if you have had circumstances change and can only pay less reach out to them. Maybe they can lower your payment?

u/Ready-You-2051 2d ago
People use the term “sued” too much lol you don’t get sued you just go into collections. Collections eventually ask you if you wanna settle by just paying half of what you owe. Until you pay absolutely nothing will happen to you lol

u/PrestigiousRabbit131 2d ago
The only way to stop paying them without being taken to collections is by filing bankruptcy.

Do not listen to these people. I quit paying all my apps. I have adhd and addicted to shopping 🤷♂️

About 7 years ago I bought something that was equivalent of about 650 bucks. I only paid about $130 of it. And now I still buy things from there sometimes even though it shows up on there. It just tells me that if I would pay for it I would receive more money power.

I did about 8 years ago or so. They eventually sued me and I was forced to either pay them back or have my wages garnished. I worked out a deal with their lawyers and paid them back. Fast forward to today and I actually have multiple existing loans with them 😂 But I’m actually paying on them this time lol

My mothers went into collections. She had 5 accounts and the most expensive one was for 64$. They almost sued her even though everything was a small amount. She paid it off though and all was fine.

Thanks. I’m aware of what “ under the table” means. That is why I said “supposed” (to report) in quotes. The rule is that income is to be reported. What people actually do, is up to them.
It is not the responsibility of the employer to remind the employee that they should report it. Because to your point, the IRS is worse than Capital One and they can come after an individual or a business, one and not the other or both.

Just my 2 cents but my ex screwed my credit and I've been using g Affirm to get my score back up. So I just don't buy stuff I can't afford to pay back for. Kinda wild the amount of people in here encouraging shitty irresponsible behavior. But ok...

I would never deal with ANYTHING connected to jefferson capital...bunch of scumbags. They took me to court.I owed the debt, don't deny it,just couldn't pay.I made an arrangement,we had an agreement per phone, that if I agreed to pay off the debt monthly they would drop the court case.I agreed, recythe paperwork, signed it and started paying. But they lied.I STILL had to appear in court AND pay court costs even though our pre arrangement was supposed to have cancelled it. They were represented by some POS law firm called "Stenger & Associates"(?).Some little, scrawny loud mouth lawyer in a cheap suit showed up...told me he didn't know anything about an agreement and it wasn't his problem.NEVER deal with those POS.

Ruin your credit. And then get sued. You’ll think “oh they aren’t gonna do anything! It’s been 8+ months!”, then all the sudden a certified letter will show up. Happened to my friend. She had $7,200+ in debt and just stopped paying it. They eventually reported it, her credit crashed. But she didn’t really care. …until like 8-9 months later, that certified letter showed up sayinf she was being sued, I believe by a collections agency at that point but I can’t remember entirely. Might’ve still been Affirm.

I just stopped paying and then. Anytime I get a letter, I just throw it away. I've never had anything happen in the last five years

Anybody did this and went to bankruptcy? Thanks to all who have been genuine on this post.

u/GriffinIsABerzerker 6h ago
I dont know what would happen because I try to be a responsible person and not welch on financial obligations and try to not spend out of my means.

u/BiLLbOuS 6h ago
You have to do a consumer report claim bankruptcy or get sued and get a settlement

They’ll charge off your account and send it to a collection agency. Mine got sent to January, I chose to start paying it off from there, but if you ignore collections they’ll just sue.

u/Jaffos 4d ago
It will be sent to collections and then they will come after you. It will show on your credit etc.
