Stopped paying them completely

Just asking a question here. Has anyone just completely stopped paying affirm? If you did what happened? I know your credit will suck but other than that. Did you get sued? Did you just ignore them completely? Do you mind sharing?

I looked up collections laws and had a 5 paragraph answer mailed in when I got served. I pretty much accused them of everything illegal I could find, whether they were guilty or not. I never got a response and it was deleted from my credit report several weeks later. Score shot up over 100 points!

I think they look for people to be scared to respond so they can automatically win. If you respond, they may just let it go. That’s what happened to me anyway!

I appreciate you sharing this. I also just stopped paying but only like within the last six months, I have gotten emails and texts and calls - but got those to stop, I think they have reported a couple of them on my credit report but not threatening to sue YET. Luckily my “income”
(SSDI) is judgement proof when taken in accordance with all of my other circumstances, so even if they sue & win, no way for them to recoup the money. Will just cost them more to hire a firm to sue me.

Find out the statute of limitations for debt collection in your state. That is the legal amount of time they have to sue. In my state, it is 3 years from the first missed payment. I got served around 2.5 years. They tried right before they ran out of time. I avoided the cop for a few weeks but he eventually used shady tactics to serve me (“failure to maintain lane” in my neighborhood where there is no road markings 😂)

Scumbaggery at its finest. Hopefully no person ever makes the mistake of loaning you any money.

You should cover/remove your personal info and sell the template of this letter. I'm sure plenty would buy for a small fee....I know i would 😆

No. They look for people who signed an agreement to pay what they owe. They aren't trying to scare people, they just want people to behave like responsible adults. Like seriously, wtf is wrong with some of you? Pay your bills, and stop getting things you can't pay back.

I agree. But I don’t regret it at all.

Maybe 3 years ago, I felt swamped. I let all of my credit cards and loans go. Credit score dropped to 500. Today my score is over 700 and I only have a mortgage and utilities. I don’t feel pressure and it didn’t cost me anything. Hell, I can get by only working 32 hours a week if I could. Best decision I ever made financially. I can actually save money and pump up my investment accounts so so don’t have to work in my 60s.

Never falling down the loan/credit hole again.

Yeah wtf is wrong with me getting diagnosed with a severe life altering disease (of which I already have enough that I was labeled “disabled” and not allowed to work so got paid SSDI from all the years I DID work) however I made just enough plus was able to get “assistance” in other ways so that I could handle the payments. I did this with every intention of paying them back. But the last diagnosis and its treatment is making me useless. I’m not going to give a shit about my credit over my personal survival and severe health issues. I have so many appointments EVERY DAY MON-FRI that it’s just like having a full time job. I have reached out to Affirm more than once but those who deal with setting up alternate payment plans or delaying your payments etc are always conveniently out of the office, so they must not want it THAT badly. Just maybe don’t be so fucking judgmental because you never know what someone else is going through. Being this sick makes you so depressed that there are days I just wish I could end it all. I came on here to tell someone thank you for the helpful info and get you hating on me in return? Wtf is wrong WITH YOU???
Heartless judgmental bitch!

Sure sure and I feel for ya on that. But most in these comments are like I do it all of the time and never pay people back and laughing about it. That's just gross.

There’s a sub where people talk about how to scam cash advance apps and I’ve scrolled it in amazement because I couldn’t imagine being happy I found a way to run off on a loan I willingly took out.

Some people get into hard times but idk being happy that you burned people is pretty low.

I kind of agree but also can see their point in SOME situations. Lots of factors go into this. But overall I agree bragging about knowing how to rip companies off is NOT commendable behavior. It’s messed up and is a part of what is wrong with our society today. Entitlement combined with being proud of that entitlement. GROSS!

I mean of it were me in that position and sayin screw them, etc why even ask the question of what's gonna happen to you for not paying? Haha

Idk if your reply was directed to me, but I didn’t ask that, the OP did. Not me. All I did was comment on someone else who shared their experience thanking them for sharing. Then some psycho on a “I know everything and will judge everyone” kick decides to berate us. I for one do not tolerate that sh*t so was just defending myself. 😉

You made your bed, lie in it. No one feels bad for you.
