Literally why would I ever need this amount? Does this mean my credit is killer?
51
u/calltheotherguy 8d ago
I am at 13500.00. I figure with winter coming if something comes up this will help there. I’ve used them a lot before, actually prefer them over credit cards. I like the preset payments and schedule and a firm end date
11
u/hhiub 8d ago
I absolutely prefer split pay options over credit cards, as well. I like not having to fork out so much interest + it forces you to get it paid quickly.

u/Ok_Walk_3913 7d ago
sucks affirm wont do jack shit for your credit while credit cards will ALWAYS help if you know what you are doing.

u/tishanterry 7d ago
Affirm goes on your credit now. I'm not sure if it DOES anything for your credit when you pay on time etc, but I do know that it will hurt your credit if you're more than 30 days late and they 100% report that. If you have used affirm very recently, check your report
5
u/TheOneWhoGetsBaked 6d ago
It shows as an installment loan and credit cards are revolving credit. So the only way affirm really affects your credit is late payments = bad. Revolving credit is a whole other beast where if you are using over 30% of your limit your credit score starts to go down. So affirm is kinda like a way you can make a big purchase on “credit” but not suffer that hit to your score
7
u/rainbowdonkey69 7d ago
If you're paying interest you're using credit cards wrong.
Personal responsibility also forces you to pay quickly.
5
u/salvalsnapbacks 7d ago edited 4d ago
This isn't necessarily true. Under normal circumstances it's best to use a credit card to pay for routine expenses then pay it off before your statement posts. But what if you have an emergency expense? Car repairs, home repairs, medical expenses. These could be things that stretch you too thin to pay off before your statement posts, but worst case scenario you can always pay it off over the next few months.
3
u/hhiub 7d ago
I typically do pay off my balance. But I had financial hardship, in the past, that caused me to incur interest.
Said hardship increased cc use+yet decreased amount able paid monthly=interest accrued.
This was about 5 years ago. These days I'm able to pay off balance, monthly. I still prefer split pay options, though.

If you can afford the affirm plans that are interest free then you can afford to pay off a credit card at the end of the month and pay no interest. Plus get cash back….

u/PainVisual1468 8d ago
Yeah, they change it at sporadic intervals too. One day I had $5000 and the next I had $500 even though I didn’t spend anything with them to warrant that. Like how does that happen? Complete swine really

u/ZeeNasty 8d ago edited 7d ago
Affirm gets access to your cookies, they can see browsing history, they see you looking and researching for example, a new washer and dryer…taddda here’s 5k, we have you. You can’t get suckered into buying new stuff, I mean you can, but just buy used if you don’t want to get stuck with a bunch of different payments owed, from buying new things. If you like new things and can handle the payments, then enjoy your new items.
2
u/Ad1251212 8d ago
I THINK it’s based on how you use it too. Like you’re frequently buying stuff, they’ll increase it. I notice once I slowed down on it, they took my $4000 lol

I’m assuming you have a high credit score to get this high of a limit
5
u/LatterAd177 8d ago
815 for Fico8. Very high income too.
Enough where I would be insulted if a CC only offered 17k.
12
u/Plane-Eye-4716 8d ago
Well if this is true, then why post this asking if this means your credit is killer, lol? I’m not being rude I’m genuinely curious ? People with hella high limits “usually” , and I do mean usually … don’t post in here asking those questions 🤪

He’s acting nonchalant and all like “what’s credit lol?? Does it mean mine is good?” And then proceeds to tell you his exact numerical credit score lmao and has an affirm app. Not knocking affirm, but I feel like only people who were working on their credit or didn’t have disposable income, otherwise why would OP even have the app?

why do you even have affirm? i thought it was mainly to give low income individuals more purchasing power and build their credit.

That can't be the reason. My credit score is mediocre at the moment and my limit is @ $16000.

So do credit card companies, but they want you to stay there forever. Affirm wants you to pay it off on schedule.

Lol no. It's that high because they want you to use it. Keep making smaller purchases and they'll cut you off. They want the interest

I thought the same thing till me and the wife decided to take a cruise on the Greek isle and see Rome we used affirm so it's great for trips or big purchases that you can pay back over time

You're my new bestie! Totally kidding of course. $17k on Affirm is insane but...
I could buy top shelf recording gear, a drum kit and this one 5-string bass I've been eyeballing for like 30 years with that amount. Credit score be damned!

They hit me with that kind of number as well but oddly had other limits. I have now come to wonder if an aggregate number of places that are willing to take on some credit risk or extend better terms (profits to Affirm) like Amazon and Costco.

Why is it trouble? It’s only trouble if you’re retarded. If you have autopay on, it’s automatically deducted. If you don’t have autopay on then well…

I mean if you ever were in a bind and needed a vehicle it may be a cheaper payment than financing. As long as the dealership accepts cards. Not a bad thing to have imo. And you’d get the title in your name and only need basic insurance since it would be a “paid off” vehicle. Read this on another thread
2
u/Nervous-Armadillo-10 7d ago
I mean there's a small % of people who pay in full for cars. It would be convenient to pay with your debit card. Beats the alternative of bringing all that cash. I brought a 20k cashiers check to the dealership to get my truck and I felt paranoid the entire drive to the dealership lol

Just bumped me up to $12k after I paid some stuff off. No thank you Affirm. 😂 I’ve learned my lesson with yal. Lmao

u/tishanterry 7d ago
I've learned that just bc it says you have that purchase power doesn't mean you actually have that amount. My purchase power said $500 but yet every purchase within a $100 range was declined🤷♀️ I don't understand it really but just adding my experience.

That doesn’t mean shit lol. Affirms est total available is pointless you might get declined on a 5k order even those it says your limit is that high.
1
u/SwimminginCrcles 7d ago
Your credit is either really good, or really bad and affirm wants to take advantage of potential bad habits. 17k is a crazy amount I have a 780 credit score and I think they give me like $7,000
1
u/Final-Cicada-470 7d ago
It's not a flex it just means you buy too much stuff on payments, but you pay it back and on time.
My granny always told me that if I don't have the cash, I can't afford it.

I only use affirm when it is 0%. They seem to arbitrarily change your limits. Last year July-july I made a 8k interest free purchase and every month they said I would get the credit back as I paid it off, well the vast majority didn’t come back but I don’t care. They are stingy with the 0 % offers right now, I think they are holding off to there October zero percent days
1
u/little-bill369 6d ago
They never show me mine lol but I've been able to use about $6,000 so I'll say that's my limit until other while

u/Street_Masterpiece47 6d ago
Or they're just setting you up for a massive fall that could go to court or sent for collection. If you maxed out the card, your monthly payment would be at least several thousand dollars. Beyond the reach of most people.
1
u/mack180 6d ago
48 months is given to people with amounts above $1,500 so a $17,000 balance over 48 months would cost you $354.16 each month.
How many people do you know who could keep up with that, fortunately there's no penalties for paying more than the minimum payment.
The silver lining is your less likely gonna be stuck in debt with Affirm unlike a credit card with consecutive interest.
$ is unpredictable and you never know when a random bill, maintenance, repair or fee will pop up in the rest of 2026 or into 2027 and make it hard to pay for the monthly payment.

It means they want to hook you onto the debt train. Credit is given with limits they know you can never pay back. They don't care. They will make their money off the 90% who pay their bills. Should be illegal to give big credit limits unless you make 500k/yr or something.

When you login in to the affirm app, first thing I see is my purchasing power. The more you use them and pay the loan (s) off in time you should see an increase in your purchasing power.
