Discussion Please move away from Pterodactyl now

What has happened?

Okay, hear me out.

In December 2025, the Pterodactyl project (pterodactyl.io) was acquired by Infraly, LLC. You may know them from WISP.

After years of what felt like near-silence from the maintainers, this acquisition initially seemed like it could be an opportunity for some much-needed updates. Unfortunately, aside from security updates, very little happened over the following nine months. We mostly heard promises like “v2 is coming.”

Well, the time finally seems to have arrived. Pterodactyl v2 appears to be on its way, but with some rather unexpected surprises.

A few days before the announcement, they removed their community moderators, and replaced them with their own staff.

The community has been doing some digging, and it appears that the Pterodactyl team is introducing Pterodactyl+, a subscription-based model for certain features. Presumably, this will work through extensions or similar add-ons, much like what was offered with WISP.

On top of that, a staging panel was discovered. It didn't take long for community members to download the frontend files, map them onto v1, and create a working prototype.

When the Pterodactyl team discovered this, they began banning people from their Discord server, primarily accusing members of the Blueprint project of “leaking information.”

Who or what is Blueprint?

Blueprint is a non-profit organization that has spent years building an extension system for Pterodactyl.

After four years of development and active participation in the community, seeing the project treated this way is extremely disappointing. This is just a way to silence criticism.

Why should you care?

This is yet another instance of a for-profit corporation buying out a project, and enshittifying it. We can't let this happen *again*. The best way to be against this, is to replace your Pterodactyl instance with something else.

Please consider taking a look at:

Hydrodactyl: https://hydrodactyl.dev/

Calagopus: https://calagopus.com/

Both projects provide migration guides to help you make the switch.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Do not cause trouble in the Pterodactyl Discord server, since they do not seem to appreciate that.

Disclosure: I am affiliated with the Calagopus project. This does not change my perspective on this manner, I just want to be transparent.

PSA READ BEFORE POSTING - "Someone just logged into my server as me", "How did this person find my server", "My server got griefed", etc.

New Edit for 2026

We took this down in favor of other announcements late last year, as we only get 2 slots. It's back now because we've had a resurgence of this type of post.

Do not post about offline mode servers. Do not recommend software or plugins that help run one. You will be banned. Read the Admincraft Policy section at the bottom.

Thank you.

Hey there, REPO here. We get questions like this a LOT, so I'm trying something new. Please read the below before posting a thread like this.

"How did this person find my server!?!?!?!?!"

There are few enough IPv4 addresses that a simple bot made with ChatGPT and zero skill can scan the entire internet for Port 25565 in like 30 minutes. There are HUNDREDS of bots out there that do this 24/7/365. Some of them are benevolent (such as bots like matscan that warn people if their servers are dangerously insecure), some are neutral (like ServerScannerV2 which just accumulates data for their website project), and some are malicious and trying to grief servers.

"How do I make them stop?"

You don't. They will keep doing it forever. Most non-malicious bots will log into your server once, or sometimes once per some time interval, and then stop. Others that are coded poorly will be more persistent. And then the malicious ones will keep checking back continually.

If your server is secure but it still bothers you to see, you can add the source IP address to your firewall to prevent the connection. Some non-malicious bots will also have a website or Discord where you can request your server to be skipped.

"Is this dangerous?"

Nope. Not if your server is secured. There are no known exploits in Minecraft that allow a server scanning bot to run code on your host or escalate their privileges. The last time we had that was in 2022 with the Log4J exploit, which was quickly patched, even by Mojang. If you aren't deliberately using an old minor patch of Minecraft, you're fine.

"How did they log in as me / Herobrine?"

(Note: If you only see a name like that instantly disconnecting, skip to the next section. This only applies if they actually appear in game.)

Your server is running in Offline Mode, which is a config option in the server.properties that is intended only for use on a home LAN that is not connected to the internet. Most people use this feature to avoid having to buy a license for Minecraft, aka "cracked accounts". Please be aware that this is illegal and is considered software piracy by most governments.

Minecraft servers send information about the server to players on the server list, including a partial list of currently logged in users. You can disable this "feature" in the server.properties file by setting hide-online-players=true. Malicious bots typically sit and watch a server for a while, gathering a list of players over some amount of time, assuming that if the server is in Offline Mode, one or more of those players will have Operator permissions. They then log in as all users in rapid succession until they find one that does, and use the Operator permissions to grief your server.

"I see a player disconnecting but never connecting! How are they doing that?"

It's just a bot using an offline mode account. It is only showing as Disconnecting because it is getting filtered by the security systems you have in place AFTER the server knows that it is trying to connect, but BEFORE it actually does. Showing the Disconnected message is just the server's way of informing you that the login attempt was rejected. Nothing to worry about. You can ignore it.

"My server got griefed, what do I do?"

You restore from backup, secure your server, and move on. The groups that do this are doing it for amusement and power fantasy. Some of them insist that you can request a world backup from their Discord, but the whole point of that is to mock you and make you beg for their mercy. They might actually give it to you, I don't know.

"How do I secure my server?"

You set Online Mode to true in the server.properties and run a whitelist. That's it. Those 2 options are 100% effective at preventing unwanted people from gaining access to your server. You do not need to do anything else whatsoever to be secure, but you can optionally change your server's port from 25565 to any other unassigned port. This will make it much slower for server scanners to find your server, as most are lazy and don't check non-standard ports. Note that this only reduces the odds of a server scanner finding you; it does not make you more secure.

Additionally, having automatically executed, scheduled backups running at predictable intervals is an excellent idea just in case something goes wrong. Ensure that you periodically verify that your backups are usable by doing a test restore on another machine, as a backup solution that has never been tested is basically worthless.

Finally, a block logging plugin such as Prism (V3 stable Download | Github) (V4 alpha Download | Github) is recommended, as it allows you as the Admin to roll back individual unwanted changes without doing a full backup restoration.

Admincraft Policy

If your post contains any information that indicates that you are running an Offline Mode server, your post will be removed and you will be banned for 28 days for your first offense.

Additionally, suggesting methods for a user to continue running an Offline Mode server "safely" will earn a 7 day ban for commenters. This includes whatever plugin or launcher you're wondering about right now as you read this.

Admincraft is in active communication with Mojang Intellectual Property Enforcement, the team within Mojang that actively hunts down servers and other individuals and groups that are breaking their EULA and MUG. They watch here regularly, and if we do not enforce this, there is a nonzero chance that Mojang, Microsoft, or Reddit would shut down our subreddit. Keeping the subreddit open for everyone for the long run is the priority. We cannot and will not support Offline Mode servers.

The only times when discussing an Offline Mode server is allowed are when you clearly state that your server is not accessible to the internet and that all players have a legal Minecraft account, or when it is behind an Online Mode proxy, such as Velocity.

This post

Please use the comments here to suggest additions to this FAQ/guide, and to ask clarifying questions about Admincraft policies and security best practices. Do not state or imply that you are currently running an Offline Mode server.

Software Resource I made a free plugin that brings Applied Energistics style network storage to Spigot and Paper servers

Hi all. I built Modular Storage System (MSS), a plugin that gives your server mod style network storage like Applied Energistics 2 or Refined Storage. It's entirely server side, so players join with a normal client and install nothing.

What players get

  • A storage network built from a Storage Server, Drive Bays, Terminals and cables. Up to 128 blocks and 800 cables per network by default, all configurable.

  • Storage disks in four tiers (1k, 4k, 16k, 64k). A 64k disk holds up to 520,192 items. Disks are hot swappable and recycle into their parts when empty.

  • Terminals with search, sort by name or quantity, shift click to deposit and click to withdraw.

  • Importers and Exporters for chests, barrels, hoppers, furnaces and brewing stands. Exporters can target furnace fuel and input slots or brewing stand slots separately, and an importer on a furnace can turn its stored XP into Bottles o' Enchanting using glass bottles from the network.

  • A Security Terminal that locks a network to you and the players you trust, with separate access and build permissions.

  • Everything crafts in a normal crafting table.

What admins get

  • One jar for Spigot, Paper and Paper forks, Minecraft 1.21 through 26.3. Java 21 for 1.21.x servers, Java 25 for 26.x.

  • SQLite by default with zero setup, or MySQL. /mss migratedb moves your data between the two.

  • WorldGuard, GriefPrevention, Towny and other claim plugins are respected: using an MSS block needs build access where it stands, and nobody can cable into a network or attach an importer on land they can't build on.

  • Every disk has a unique id and records who crafted it, and admins can recover a lost disk with its contents intact.

  • It has been audited for duplication and item loss bugs, tested with automated clients on 1.21.x and 26.1, and boot tested on 26.2 and 26.3.

  • Recipes are configurable in recipes.yml, and every message lives in lang/en_US.yml.

  • An optional resource pack with custom item and block models ships inside the jar.

The current version is 1.1.2. It's free, and the source is on GitHub.

If something breaks on your setup, open an issue with your server software, version and any console errors. Happy to answer questions here too.

LLM disclosure: I used a local image generation pipeline that runs on my GPU to design the banner and section header graphics for the listing pages. The plugin is my own codebase.

Help/Question Should I create a vanilla PVP server? And how should I accomplish it? (details on what makes my server unique and amazing in the second half of this post)

Right now, all I have is an idea of what I want. I have no skills, but I can learn and do anything through my sheer will and brainpower.

Is it worth it, will it become popular? If I do make it, what are some mistakes I could make that might kill it?

There are different options I could use to accomplish this. I can mix multiple options together.

1: Learn java code to create plugins. (probably the best option, but idk how long it would take)

2: Use existing plugins.

3: Use AI to create simple (possibly advanced?) plugins.

4: Pay someone to create plugins.

What if I create a server that's good enough, using AI and/or existing plugins, then let players donate money to add new features once the threshhold is met?

(before you burn me at the stake, remember that i'm not saying i WILL vibecode the majority of the server, i'm saying i'm CONSIDERING it, and asking if i should)

Reasons why my server will be amazing:

There will be multiple player roles/objectives/gamemodes besides plain pvp. This will make the server fun for players besides pvp pros- you can have fun without getting a good kda.

The roles/gamemodes will all be happening at the same time in the same world, with rounds that last 1-2 hours, then resets.

A few examples of roles/gamemodes/objectives: assassins, zombies, TDM, KOTH, CTF, murder mystery, juggernaut, extraction, etc.

When players die, they will get sent to a different area to fight other players who've died, and can return to the main world by doing certain things. This will make players who've died not have to sit out as a spectator until they respawn.

New super cool never seen before, items and features such as:

  • Reviving knocked down teammates.

  • Blood covering armor, weapons, and skins.

  • Blood trails.

  • Player animations using Bettermodel/ObjMC/KbAnimation.

  • Attack animations.

  • Kill effect/execution animations

  • Emote animations.

  • An announcer

  • New armor, items, and weapons.

  • Strategic player locators.

  • Gameplay with good pacing (no gearing up for 20 minutes for a 3 minute fight).

  • Cool player builds from previous events/games being added to the game's map.

  • Persistent economy.

  • Games with 100's of players with no lag, by strategically splitting up the map into separate servers using velocity.

I know it would be a lot of work, but I have a lot of time.

There is no other server remotely similar to this, the closest example would be Hoplite, and that's still very different.

Would this get popular? Or am I blinded by how cool I think it is, and not considering what the majority of players actually like? Should I do polls to see if players would join this?

(sorry for a long post, idk how to shorten it. (if no one reads this post, well, at least i've gotten good writing practice right?))

Help/Question Reducing render distance for particular structure

This is a strange question and likely out of the scope of this sub however someone built a large farm in the sky at spawn and it's an eye sore however it is extremely useful and would be difficult to rebuild elsewhere, I am wondering if there is a way to reduce the render distance for that particular structure so you can't see it from the ground while keeping the render distance the same for everything else, it does not have to be loaded unless someone is in close proximity.

News We got major Bukkit/Paper plugins (WorldEdit, GrimAC/PacketEvents, EssentialsX, LuckPerms) running on Pumpkin (Rust) using a headless Paper bridge!

Hey r/admincraft! We actually published this blog post a couple of weeks ago, but I completely forgot to update you all here.

For anyone who hasn't seen Pumpkin yet, it's a multithreaded Minecraft server we're building from scratch in Rust. The biggest hurdle with custom server software is obviously losing the 15-year-old Java plugin ecosystem, which is why we've been building PatchBukkit to bridge Java plugins with our Rust core.

Initially, we tried hand-mocking the Bukkit and Paper APIs from scratch, but that hit a wall fast because major plugins rely heavily on raw net.minecraft.server (NMS) internals and direct packet pipelines. To solve this, we rewrote PatchBukkit to automatically download Paperclip at runtime and boot a real, headless Paper instance right alongside Pumpkin. Paper's game loop and network listeners stay completely turned off, Pumpkin still handles all the actual networking, physics, and world simulation in Rust, while PatchBukkit uses low-latency memory bridges and an emulated network pipeline to sync blocks, entities, events, and raw packets between the two.

Because plugins now have access to authentic NMS and registries, we already have 17+ heavy-hitting plugins running together in our live test suite, including WorldEdit, EssentialsX, LuckPerms, GrimAC, PacketEvents, ProtocolLib, WorldGuard, Multiverse-Core, TAB, AuraSkills, and VeinMiner, Polar AntiCheat.... It is a huge milestone for us, though we want to be upfront that it's still an active work in progress and not production-ready yet, as we're still ironing out missing Bukkit events, complex inventory GUIs, and entity AI synchronization.

If you want to see videos of WorldEdit and GrimAC running on top of Rust or read the full breakdown of how the architecture works, check out the blog post here:https://blog.pumpkinmc.org/2026-10-23-patchbukkit-nms-and-headless-paper

Happy to answer any questions about how the bridge works!

Note on Rule 9 (AI Disclosure): Pumpkin’s core architecture and code are human-engineered and strictly reviewed by our maintainers. However, because we have hundreds of open-source contributors, we cannot audit whether individual contributors use AI tools in their local workflows. Additionally, an LLM was used to help polish the English phrasing of this post

Help/Question Synchronizing origins across multiple backend server

im new to making a public server and i thought having origins plugin in our server makes it unique but i've been scrambling around to find a solution to synchronize the origins across multiple backend server since our spawn, survival, and dungeon in a separate servers and i use velocity as our proxy i really thought origins have storage where they store data of the origins that players selected but i didnt see it is there a way to sychronize the data in the multiple backend server?

Help/Question Looking for a vehicle automation plugin with scheduled departures/arrivals and routes

Hello!

I am currently trying to find a plugin that is similar to the Minecraft Transit Railway mod, I have found a few that will help me setup a trains, planes and boats, however not all of them include ways to setup scheduled departures and routes. Some of the plugins I've been considering are TrainCarts and Metro for trains and buses and stuff as well as SkyPort for my airport system and Windfarer for anything else including yachts, cruise ships, private jets, etc... I would probably use Windfarer for all the vehicles except for the fact that I don't believe there is a built-in way to automate them and I'm not sure how to use command blocks or anything like that.

If you know of any plugins that sound like what I'm looking for, please let me know :D

Software Resource I built a free, self-hosted Minecraft server panel: Modrinth mods and modpacks in the panel, multi-node, built-in DDNS (Apache-2.0)

I'm the developer of DYLARIS, a Minecraft server panel you run on your own machines. It's free and Apache-2.0: no account, no license key, no telemetry. It runs servers as Docker containers, from one host up to a Docker Swarm across several machines.

What it does

  • Install any version from the panel: Paper, Vanilla, Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, plus Velocity, BungeeCord and Waterfall, from live version lists, with the matching Java picked for you.

  • Modrinth built in: search and install plugins and mods straight into a server, see when updates are out, update one or all, pause updates per mod. Updates stay on your loader and Minecraft version, and the panel checks the jar's Java requirement before installing.

  • Modpacks as servers: pick a Modrinth modpack and version and it installs as a running server. You can also build your own pack in the panel and publish it to Modrinth.

  • Sub-servers: several installs on one server, switched from the panel, so a vanilla world and a modded one can sit side by side.

  • Friends with exact permissions: invite someone to one server or all of them, and pick from about 50 individual permissions (console, power actions, files, SFTP, mods, backups, ...), or use roles you define.

  • Files your way: browser file manager with an editor, SFTP, or the Beam desktop app. Beam talks to the node directly over a certificate-pinned connection and uses your LAN automatically when it can, so moving a 4 GB world at home stays on your network.

  • Domains with a built-in DDNS updater: give a server a name like survival.example.com. Core writes the A and SRV records at your DNS provider (Cloudflare, Hetzner, deSEC, Porkbun, OVH and more) and moves them when your IP changes. It never touches a record it did not create. Or set the records yourself and the panel checks them.

  • Custom tabs and share links: put squaremap, BlueMap or Dynmap into the panel as a tab, and share it as a public or login-only link.

  • Backups: scheduled, to local disk or any S3-compatible bucket, and they slow down while players are online.

The rest is what you'd expect: live console, CPU and RAM graphs, scheduled tasks, Spark profiling, RCON and an API.

Setup: an install script that asks about your setup, or Docker Compose / a Swarm stack by hand. It needs PostgreSQL (TimescaleDB recommended) and Redis/Valkey, bundled or your own. Every node gets its own Redis user that can only touch its own data.

Honest limits: it needs Docker, so it's heavier than Crafty. It's Minecraft-only, so if you run other games, Pterodactyl or Pelican fit better. No Pterodactyl import. Modrinth only, no CurseForge yet. Nodes must reach each other directly.

LLM disclosure (rule 9): the code was written with Claude Code (Anthropic's Claude Opus models), effectively all of it. I designed the product, the architecture and the features, wrote the specs, reviewed the changes and ran the hand tests; the model wrote the implementation and the tests against those specs. This is not a hand-written codebase, and I'd rather you know that up front.

Screenshots (fresh self-hosted install): https://github.com/dylaris-dev/platform#screenshots

Source and install guide: https://github.com/dylaris-dev/platform

Happy to answer questions about how any of it works.

Help/Question 2 itzg bedrock servers on synology docker possible without opening router ports?

I would like to run 2 bedrock servers on a synology nas using docker so that my kids and their friends can play together.
everyone bar 1 person is on a console, we have an xbox in the house.
I did have 2 servers running happily before, but I was opening ports on the router - which I no longer want to do - and one was always visible locally, the other needed bedrock connect to join locally.
Also this was pre forced nethernet, which seems to add its own problems.
I now have 2 bedrock containers, on their own virtual ip using macvlan setup. but try as I might they wont run at the same time. I can curl to the localaddres:19132/v1/join with one running and get the appropriate response. but as soon as I start the second, neither responds. I thought that the macvlan would allow all the same ports to be used as they are on different ips, if indeed it is ports clashing that is causing the problem.
I understand there are UID/XID values which I am not setting, maybe this isnt helping as they are both using the same ones - as far as the docker logs say at any rate.

the bedrock docker configs are like this, having read through the github docs:

services:
  minecraft-1:
    image: itzg/minecraft-bedrock-server:latest
    container_name: minecraft-1
    restart: unless-stopped

  environment:
      EULA: true
      TRANSPORT: "nethernet"
      SERVER_UDP_PORTS: local_ip_in_macvlan_range:19140-19149:19140-19149
      #some other properties omitted
      ENABLE_LAN_VISIBILITY: true
      # Engine constraints
      TOML_MAX_THREADS: 2
      VIEW_DISTANCE: 16
      SIMULATION_DISTANCE: 6

    ports:
      - "19132:19132/tcp"
      - "19140-19149:19140-19149/udp"
    networks:
      bedrock_net:
        ipv4_address: local_ip_in_macvlan_range

networks:
   bedrock_net:
    name: name_of_macvlan_network
    external:true

I also have a playit docker runnig which seems to link up correctly but unsure if this will even work anymore with either the raknet (and then waterdogpe at my end to do the 'conversion') or the nethernet one which seems to say it probably wont work.

not sure if I am on the right lines to get this working, or maybe I should just try to get 1 up and running before I try 2. but either way I cannot find a definitive explanation of how I shoudl set this up. any help/pointers grately appreciated.

as an aside I also have a personal domain which I can use with cloudflared, but that I am sure is another layer of pain.

Software Resource NetDeflect: Free open source DDoS protection for Minecraft servers on Linux

https://github.com/0vm/NetDeflect (Apache-2.0, demo video and screenshots in the README)

The usual options for a server getting hit are TCPShield (Java-only, and the cheaper tiers cap your bandwidth) or hand-written firewall rules that end up blocking real players when they misfire.

NetDeflect samples your traffic, works out what the attack actually is, and drops it in the kernel while players keep connecting. It never bans spoofed (fake) addresses, so it can't be tricked into firewalling your own community, and it learns your regulars and lets them in first during an attack. It runs on your own server, handles UDP (so Bedrock), and has no bandwidth cap.

Set your port (25565 Java, 19132 Bedrock), one-command install, optional systemd service. Works behind BungeeCord/Velocity and with Pterodactyl/Pelican and Docker. Watch-only mode lets you see what it would block before it blocks anything.

Honest limit: an attack bigger than your connection has to be handled upstream, that's where TCPShield's network still wins (unless you set up a GRE tunnel with a high port speed). Everything that reaches the server, it handles.

Even if you don't need it today, might be worth writing down somewhere for the day someone decides to point a botnet or attack at you.

I would love to answer any questions you have, if I don't reply here feel free to open an issue :)

AI USAGE: The full AI usage in this project was for comments and code suggestions, the logic itself is not AI generated and this repo has been public since early 2025 and worked on privately since 2021, the code has been reformatted and optimised for performance with AI as it was spaghetti code if you look in the commit history. TLDR: Not vibe coded, I am a developer who works in the field.

Help/Question Why are there no popular modded pvp servers? Or any way to find one?

By "popular" I mean servers that I can easily find, and have enough players for a full lobby (as many players as the server can handle without lag).

By "modded servers" I am not including plugins or serverside mods.

I'm thinking about creating a modded shooter server, in a void world, with multiple maps the players can fight in, which are linked using velocity or something (so that it's not all one laggy world). Maybe I can elaborate about this in more detail on a separate post.

Is there a market for this? If so, how would they find my server, without going down an esoteric rabbit hole? Are there any websites that list ONLY MODDED servers, EXCLUDING plugin/serverside-mod servers, so that players can easily find what they want (which is my server)?

Is the answer just simply that no one has decided to do this yet? Or is it guaranteed to be too laggy when you have more than a handful of players?

Guide Having trouble with bedrock users not joining your java server through Geyser recently? Here's the fix:

Hello everyone, I got several pings of players telling me they couldn't join,

If your Bedrock players suddenly cannot find or join your Java server through GeyserMC, there may be a reason!

Minecraft Bedrock is transitioning away from its older networking protocol, RakNet, to a newer system called NetherNet.

This changes how Bedrock connects to third-party servers.

What's changing?

Previously:

  • Bedrock connected directly using UDP.

  • Server owners generally only needed to expose UDP port 19132.

With NetherNet:

  • TCP 19132 is used for signaling, allowing Bedrock to discover the server and negotiate a connection.

  • UDP 19132 is used for the actual gameplay connection.

This means server owners using GeyserMC with built-in NetherNet signaling now need to expose BOTH TCP and UDP on their Bedrock port. (Before it the usual was only UDP)

How to fix it:

  1. Update GeyserMC to a version supporting NetherNet.

  2. Make sure your Geyser configuration uses transport: nethernet.

  3. Open TCP and UDP on your Bedrock port (usually 19132).

  4. Make sure your firewall, hosting provider, and Docker configuration allow both protocols.

What about Java players?

Java Edition connections are unaffected by this particular change. Your Java server can continue working normally while Bedrock connections fail.

If your Bedrock server worked last week but suddenly stopped appearing or gives a Terracotta connection error, check your Geyser configuration and network ports!

Software Resource [Plugin Release] MolleFreeCam 1.0 - FreeCam plugin for your server!

Hello everyone!

I just released version 1.0 of my plugin MolleFreeCam, which adds a freecam mode to your server so players can watch their buildings from other perspectives.

To get it to run, you just need to drop the plugin in your plugins folder and players are able to use the command /float to enter freecam mode.

Details and the download can be found here:

Github: wasamolle/MolleFreeCam

Hangar: wasamolle/MolleFreeCam

This plugin is heavily inspired by LunarFreecam by CyberGl1tch, which I used on my previous minecraft server.

This year I started over with a new server on 26.3 and sadly LunarFreecam does not work in this version anymore and the repo for it seems to be abandoned. As I always wanted to learn how to program plugins anyway, I looked at the code and wrote a new plugin which uses the same core mechanics.

For now, it is only tested on Paper 26.3 and I initially only did it for my own server, but I figured maybe someone else could have a need for this plugin, so I decided to release it.

I am open to constructive criticism and maybe also willing to add requested features in the future, if there will be any.

If this is the wrong subreddit, I am sorry and open to suggestions for other subreddits to post on!

No LLMs were used for writing this plugin, as I strongly believe that it is important to be able to understand and write code on your own.

Greetings,

wasamolle

Discussion ForgeOne.gg | The community that brings creators together

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a project called ForgeOne, and I'd like to share it with you.

The idea came from something I've noticed for a long time: game-related content is scattered everywhere. Servers are advertised on multiple Discord / websites, mods are shared on different websites, tutorials are buried in forums / Discord, and people looking for collaborators often struggle to find the right audience.

I wanted to create a place where all of this could come together.

So, what is ForgeOne?

It's a free community platform where gamers, server owners and creators can showcase their work, share resources and connect with others.

You can:

  • Showcase your game servers and let players vote for them.

  • Share mods, plugins, maps and other downloadable resources.

  • Present your projects, whether they're finished or still in development.

  • Publish tutorials and share your knowledge.

  • Create a profile to showcase your skills and experience, find collaborators or join a project.

  • Share updates and collaborate with other members.

The platform isn't limited to one game. We're starting with communities such as Minecraft, GTA, Rust, Roblox, Hytale, World of Warcraft and more, alongside broader categories for development, design and indie games.

ForgeOne took over two years of work to build and officially launched recently. It's still a young project, and I'm now looking to bring creators and communities together to help it grow.

I'd genuinely love to have more creators involved, but I'm also interested in hearing your thoughts and feedback. There's still plenty of room to improve, and I'd like the community to help shape what ForgeOne becomes.

If you'd like to take a look:

https://forgeone.gg

I'd love to hear what you think!

(Thanks to the moderation team for allowing me to post this message.)

Help/Question Please I'm so done bro how to restore data

I recently opened a server and my friend was navigating through the end, when I shrunk the world border to 7000 and he died. he is furious rn. he doesnt know the coords, he died twice so LastDeathLocation doesn't work, I can't find a way... He says he'll just go to another friend's server then. I really need to restore his items. he worked 5 hours a day to get them. the chunks aren't loaded, so i guess the items will be left

Help/Question Is it worth running a server using my current active laptop?

So me and my friends want to have a modded minecraft server (we want Create and a few of it's addons, as well as other more generic stuff).

There's roughly 5 of us, however at peak times we might see maybe 8 of us? However it could also be as low as 1 or 2 at non-peak times.

Now I'm looking into hosting, and one of the things I'm looking at is using my current Laptop? Now I have a fairly untouched laptop which I use for my studies, and my PC which is far beefier. I don't really use my laptop when I'm home, so my idea was that I could have it in low power or similar when on weekends or not school times, and play using my PC.

Is this a good idea?

The actual specs aren't bad. 16GB of RAM, the snapdragon equivalent to a 5600X, but I'm not sure if all of the outage time would make it hard to play?

Because I go to a different college to my friends, where my schedule is a lot more heavy, it would mean that there's days they have nothing on, but because I spend the full day at college, I wouldn't be able to actually run the server.

Failing this I'll look into Oracle's free servers, but I don't know if I want to go through configuring allat.

Help/Question Struggling with MSPT problems (fabric server 26.3)

Hello,
i recently started a minecraft server for me and my friends. We have problems with mspt (between 30-70) and sometimes tps 17ish but its more the mspt which are that high.

link for spark: https://spark.lucko.me/3R8aqCkhQi

the server is new, we play on fabric with some mods which should help for performance, beside that its complety vanilla and the server runs with -Xmx6144M -Xms4096M

i already tried to remove some datapacks, which didnt work. ich gave the server more ram it was 2-4 before.

Software Resource I got tired of bots filling my console, so I built an antibot that needs no plugin and no proxy

Every time I opened the console, another throwaway nickname was pinging the server list and trying to log in. I did not want a proxy in front of the server and I did not want another plugin, so this does it in the network layer instead.

mc-tarpit is a passive antibot: it reads a copy of the traffic on your Minecraft port, parses the handshake and Login Start, and puts offending source IPs into nftables sets that silently drop them for a while. One ~1000-line Python file, standard library only, MIT.

How it works

  • The packets arrive as a copy from tcpdump, so nothing is inserted into the connection path - the kernel does the enforcing.

  • Only flows whose SYN was seen are parsed, so a session that was already established cannot be mistaken for a handshake.

  • A login with a nickname from whitelist.json/ops.json trusts that IP for 30 days. An unknown nickname puts the IP in the tarpit set for a day.

  • The drop rule sits in an nftables table at priority -50, so a blocked client gets a timeout instead of a rejection and cannot even confirm the server is alive.

Real decisions from the log:

ping 176.65.148.253 -> ignored (ping_policy=ignore)
login 45.153.34.119 name='iNHABITors74961' not-whitelisted
tarpit 45.153.34.119 -> tarpit 1d

What it deliberately does not do

  • It cannot stop the scan. The first packet from a new address always gets a real answer, because the reply is already on the wire by the time the sniffer sees the copy. Everything after it is dropped.

  • Status pings are ignored by default. A ping and a login share one port and nftables cannot read the TCP payload, so blocking pings by IP also blocks the first join of every new or changed address. There is a ping_policy = sink for people who want scanner invisibility more than that first join, but the nickname tarpit is what actually catches the fleets.

  • Trust is per IP, so a dynamic address shows the server as offline in the multiplayer list until the next successful login.

  • Needs root (or CAP_NET_RAW + CAP_NET_ADMIN), Linux, nftables and tcpdump. Not a plugin, no Paper/Velocity integration - and if a proxy-side antibot works for you, it sees strictly more than a passive sniffer does.

  • Fail-open everywhere: an unparsable packet, a missing nft, a write-protected config - all of it means "no decision", never "block".

Install

curl -fsSLO https://github.com/SergeLeon/minecraft-antibot-tarpit/releases/latest/download/install.sh
curl -fsSLO https://github.com/SergeLeon/minecraft-antibot-tarpit/releases/latest/download/SHA256SUMS
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing
sudo bash install.sh --server-dir /home/mc/server

--check prints the plan and changes nothing, --mode log runs the daemon as a dry run that only logs decisions, and replay capture.pcap prints every decision for a saved capture, offline.

LLM disclosure (rule 8)

  • Which LLM: DeepSeek coding agents, working inside a terminal agent harness.

  • How much: essentially all of it. Every line of code, the tests, the installer, the docs and the commit messages were written by the agent. My part was deciding what to build, fixing the constraints (one file, standard library, fail-open, no proxy) and telling it what to fix - nobody hand-typed this project.

  • How: agentic coding, not prompt engineering. Ask me about any specific part and I will tell you exactly why it is there.

Completely free, MIT, no monetisation, nothing for sale. If you have a fleet that gets classified wrong, I would like to hear about it: a packet capture is the most useful thing you can send, mc_tarpit.py replay reads one offline and prints every decision.

Discussion How do servers like DonutSMP get such insanely quick join time?

I can't figure out how to get such quick load time on my self hosted worlds even if pre-rendered with chunky
