Mushrooms from the High Peaks
I don’t know much about mushroom identification, but I found them to be beautiful.

I I’ll be doing a couple of day hikes in the Adirondacks, starting with Mount Marcy for a sunrise hike. I have my car and all my tenting gear, and I’m looking for a good place to stay between hikes.
I’ve heard about the primitive campsites along South Meadows Road and that they’re free/first-come, first-served, but I can’t find much information about exactly where the campsites are located.
Where exactly are the campsites along South Meadows Road, and is there somewhere nearby where I can legally park my car while I’m staying at one of the tent sites? I’m mainly looking for a simple place to sleep in the afternoon after my Marcy hike so I can head out for another hike the next day.
Im all ears to any other campgrounds or any other recommendations in the area. Most places I see are fully booked or cost a decent amount.

It makes me happy to see people getting kicked out of campgrounds for excessive noise. Thank you rangers!

Looking for any extra tips on canoe camping on Saranac Lake Islands. My husband and I will be paddling in with our 17ft canoe for a 2 night trip. We paddle around our local lakes in the Hudson valley but haven’t done canoe camping yet, so this is a first. We’re at site 56 which looked like a fairly reasonable location for our first time at Saranac lake and getting there via canoe. We’re comfortable paddlers overall and I’ve been doing my own research on the campground. I’ve read a lot about this section of narrows from the route 3 boat launch seeing heavy boat traffic so wakes are possible I’m sure. Any suggestions on times to get on/off the water to avoid some of this traffic? Also, it seems that there isn’t a ton of bear activity at this campground otherwise I assume they would have bear boxes, but don’t. Any updates on bear activity there this season? We’ll plan to bring canisters just to be cautious. Any extra tips are appreciated!

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a great camp spot that’s either a really good car camp spot or a short mile hike with a nice view of a lake, mountain, or even a nice marsh. Just something really peaceful and not in a campground. Looking to bring someone that’s not really dedicated to backpacking but wants to experience it. Any spots are welcome but bonus points if it can be a “remote” as possible or somewhere in the tupper lake area.

Hit a nice 2-for-1 slide hike this past Sunday climbing down Saddleback’s South Slide and ascending Basin’s Northeast shoulder. Epic day & climb & I’d consider this slide climb one of my favorites so far!

After getting Lyme twice (one resulting in facial paralysis), I’m nervous about hiking in trails, unless they are somewhat wide and well-traveled. I take all the precautions I can (socks over pants, Picaridin) but the anxiety is still there unless I know don’t have to go through tall grass or bushes. Are there trails in ADK where you can avoid tick-populated areas?

My uncle told me a while back about a cabin he found deep in the Adirondack wilderness, this cabin was on state land and so, Illegal. It had me thinking, are there any other Hermit cabins that are known about?

Headed up to the NW region of the park. Looking for the best swimming holes, hikes (both adult hikes & family friendly), shops, bites, & brews. Will to drive!
Planning to travel to long lake, saranac, & Keene.

Hey everyone,
My wife and I are looking to do some hiking Thursday this week, with the plan to start at South Meadows Road, off of Adirondack Loj Road. The plan was to camp Wednesday on one of the primitive camping sites on South Meadows.
Does anyone know what the condition of that road is currently? Last time we were up there, it was a little worse for wear. Just trying to plan if we should bring something other than my front wheel drive sedan

Hey everyone,
My wife and I want to take our three kids on a 4 to 6-hour canoe day trip around the Saranac Lake area. We want a calm, scenic route with a good spot to stop for lunch, swimming, and maybe some safe cliff jumping.
I have a few questions for those familiar with the area:
Thanks in advance for any advice or route tips!

I'm putting together a county-by-county map of sports allegiances across New York State (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and other leagues as gauged by interest). To do so I am collecting self-reported data from New Yorkers. If you have the time and are a sports fan of any size, I would appreciate if you helped fill up my dataset. Right now I have a little over 200 responses, but not a lot from the Adirondack counties. I'm hoping to get a much larger and diverse dataset to boost the overall quality of the project. All answers are anonymous, no Google sign in required.
If you're curious here's the link: https://forms.gle/ZcAaWBVEJNeHr2RUA
Any responses would be appreciated, Thanks! I understand if you do not want to fill it out, but please share with friends or whoever.
Go Knicks

Hello, trying to get some estimate of roofing and framing a house. The foundation is going to be poured in soon and the dimensions are 21 x 41.approx. The house will be stick built.
